Do you know anyone in need of help?

There are so many people who we don't

see. They are sheltering and because they are cut

off from their normal lifelines, they are even more

isolated. It is like they are invisible.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford has

partnered with the Jewish Community Foundation and over a month

ago set up a Rapid Relief and Recovery Fund (RRR Fund) for mem-

bers of our local Jewish community. It provides kosher food, finan-

cial assistance, and helps with connections. It has not been accessed

anywhere near what we think the need is.

If you know a local Jewish person or family in need, have them con-

tact https://www.jewishhartford.org/get-help-covid19. If you want to

help with this effort, you can email Kathryn Gonnerman

at [email protected].

We are all in this together. When we are each each other's eyes and

ears we can do so much more. It is what God calls us to do each day:

Blessed are you A', our God, ruler of the universe, who opens the

eyes of the blind.

Shalom,

Rabbi G.

NASO —Numbers 4:21-7:89 This Torah portion finishes up the census of the Levites that was under way at the

end of the last Torah portion, before going on to discuss the purification of the camp, the ritual for a woman sus-

pected of adultery, the laws of the Nazirite vow, the priestly benediction and the gifts the heads of the twelve

tribes brought for the dedication of the altar.

BEHA-ALOTEKHA— Numbers 8:1-12:16 This portion is jam-packed, telling the story of the consecration of the

Levites, the first Passover in the wilderness, the silver trumpets, the cloud of glory, the departure from Sinai, the

grumbling in the wilderness, the first Sanhedrin and the punishment of Miriam.

SH’LACH L’CHA — Numbers 13:1-15:41 The Torah reading tells the tragic story of how the spies returned with

a bad report about the Land of Promise and influenced the congregation of Israel to rebel against the LORD. Thus

God consigned the generation of Moses to wander in the wilderness for forty years.

KORAH — Numbers 16:1-18:39 This week's Torah reading tells the story of how Korah led an unsuccessful rebel-

lion against Moses and Aaron. After thwarting the insurrection, God confirms Aaron in the priesthood and pro-

vides additional legislation regarding priestly and Levitical privileges and responsibilities.

Hello Temple Beth Hillel Families,

As the COVID-19 pandemic spread and has now started to recede, the Board and the clergy have been in near-constant

discussion about what the future of TBH looks like. Many businesses and houses of worship are beginning to re-open

with safety precautions in place including limits on the number of people allowed at the same time. I want to assure you

that we are having those discussions as well, to determine when and how we will be able to open the building for ser-

vices and other activities. As we have shown, we are more than just a building - we are a community and we want to

remain inclusive for all of our community's needs. We will be sure to keep everyone apprised as we make progress on

this goal!

We have several informational sessions coming up for the congregation to review the annual meeting topics and we will

be covering this topic at both the informational sessions and the annual meeting. All of the informational sessions will

have the same discussion topics, so you do not need to attend more than one of them.

I look forward to seeing you all at either one of the informational meetings or the annual meeting.

l'shalom

SHEMA TOUR UPDATE: Collecting Summer Clothing, Food & Toiletries

TBH has continued to strongly support the Walk in the Light Church in North Hartford throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and now is moving into a new phase of collections. Over the past two months, we have utilized your donated funds to purchase and deliver multiple collections of food, baby formula and toiletries to deliver to Archbishop Burke for distribution, in addition to specific items that have been dropped off directly by TBH members. Now, as Connecticut slowly begins to reopen, Archbishop Burke tells us that his community espe-cially needs Summer Clothing – all types, for all ages, male and female. Clean and gently used pleased. This is a great time to clean out your closets! But we still cannot accept donations inside the Temple. However, as Connecticut residents slowly move outside their homes and if you feel comfortable doing so, you are welcome to bring any food, toiletries, or summer clothing to Laura’s house at 13 Cleary Lane in Windsor and leave in the garage. Or you can contact her and she can make ar-rangements to come pick them up. If anyone is interested in joining Laura Soll-Broxterman by driving and picking up donations from members’ homes, please let her know at 860-688-4499 or [email protected]

As always, if you would like to make a donation of funds for the purchase of items, please mail a check to the Temple or call Lori in the office to use a credit card.

TBH “Virtual” Walk Against Hunger Team

Since the onset of COVID-19, a group of dedicated TBH members have been unable to go volunteer at Hands On Hartford to sort and chop fresh produce for the nonprofit organization’s community food pantry. Unfortunately, that program is on hold for the near future. HOWEVER, there is an important way that we can continue to help that organi-zation over the next few months. Hands on Hartford relies heavily on funds it receives via Foodshare’s annual Walk Against Hunger. But since that fundraiser has been postponed, organizers are planning a new “virtual” Walk. Fun! We are seeking one or two people to organize a “virtual” TBH Walk Team of members and friends. Call Laura at 860-688-4499 or [email protected] if you are interested or want more info.
