Temperate Rainforest Geography and Climate

• The temperate rainforest is found along some coasts in temperate zones. It is distinguished by its ground covered with moss. It has a very fertile type of soil, which provides life to trees that can grow up to 300 feet! It has mild winters and cool summers. It goes as cool as 75 degrees Fahrenheit to as hot as 86 degrees Fahrenheit . It has a cooler climate than the tropical forest. It has about 100 inches of rain per year.

Temperate Rainforest Biodiversity

The temperate rainforest has a lot of diversity of plants. Some of them include: mosses, ferns, lichens, oaks, maples, and chestnuts. The variety of animals that live there is very extensive, but some of them are : black bears, raccoons, elks, squirrels, beavers, and red foxes.

Temperate Rainforest Adaptations

and Interactions

The temperate rainforest has plenty of tiny plants that adapt to tall trees by growing on them (epiphytes) to reach more sunlight. The animals adapt to tall trees, too. Most of the animals that live there can climb up a tree.

The soil depends on the animal’s waste to have more nutrients. The plants need the nutrients on the soil to survive. Mosses depend on fallen logs for a moist habitat. Rocks need lichens to make more soil.
