While linear TV is still used by big masses on a daily basis the TV consumption is moving towards OTT solutions that offer freedom in sense of time, content and viewing devices. Broadcasters are following consumers and want to be a part of the interactive millennium. They have huge media assets that offer them good opportunities to enter homes via broadband connections. The need to manage the media assets is also becoming more and more important due to competition. This need can be addressed with Teleste MAM.

Although the term MAM is widely used MAM systems do differ. Teleste MAM is a comprehensive package that can be used to manage multimedia assets. Ease of use has been our guiding idea, which in this case means intuitive user interfaces and well defined API. The asset management features flexible metadata schemas to enable powerful searches. Embedded player and transcoding form a basis of effective multimedia distribution, while efficient storage management and archiving offer optimal use of disk space - another MAM fundament.

Dynamic searches with flexible metadata schemas

There are various ways for organizing the content to be easily found with searches. With Teleste MAM broadcasters can deploy flexible metadata schemas - their fields, amount and configurations are unlimited. Fields can be added, deleted, grouped, and repositioned in groups. Number of schema groups form a tree structure and depth of the structure has no boundaries. Schemas and metadata offer multilanguage support and can be browsed with any widely used browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari).

Powerful searches can be simple or advanced. The simple search allows performing text based searches through the indexed metadata, and the search is accelerated with suggestions, so the user can quickly find what he is looking for. The advanced alternative adds more finesse to searches, the search terms can be defined more accurately and searches can also include basic logical operators. To make future searches faster and easier, all search results and parameters can be stored and reused.

Advanced functionalities for smoother services

To make the services run smoothly, the embedded player features comprehensive functionalities: play, stop, different jump alternatives, time codes and volume control are just few examples. The timeline can be zoomed in to increase the accuracy. The player starts immediately without having to wait although material has not been fully downloaded; all this is possible due to the used streaming solution.

Efficient usage of disk space

The Teleste MAM provides an integrated interface for monitoring and managing the library. Efficient storage management and disk space usage allow importing, exporting and migrating files between disk spaces and tape libraries. The importing performs automatic file analysis and computes checksums. External transcoding application can complement import and export processes to generate desired resolutions for the content. The storage management supports various access protocols such as LOCAL, FTP, FTPS, HTTP and STREAM. All storages can be monitored via an integrated panel offering current occupation level in graphical format.

Versatile user administration and process management

The Teleste MAM offers versatile functionalities for user administration and process management. Processes like management of file ingestion and transcoding can be prioritized to execute processes in a specific order. New process definitions can be added and the existing ones modified. The number of servers is not limited and the system can be scaled up easily thanks to virtual execution units.

The flexible rights management allows access control in three layers: users, roles and permissions. Each user is linked to a certain user group which can have several roles; each role has permissions defined by the administrator. Permissions allow control of user access on several levels and administrator can decide what a selected group is able to do. Access to metadata can be managed also based on the content.
