What is Telehealth?

Page 5: Telehealth: InTechnology’s new patient monitoring services for the NHS

Remote monitoring of patients at home

Patients take readings at home – blood pressure, heart rate, etc. – which are then available for review remotely by the clinical team. Any deterioration in the patient’s condition can be quickly spotted and managed.

Does it make much difference?

Page 7: Telehealth: InTechnology’s new patient monitoring services for the NHS

In short, yes!• The Department of Health launched the largest randomised control trial of telehealth in the world in

2008– 6191 patients and 238 GP practices

• The initial indications are striking. Patient groups with telehealth benefited from:– 15% reduction in A&E visits– 20% reduction in A&E admissions– 14% reduction in bed days– 45% reduction in mortality rates

• There is also feedback that suggests telehealth patients are more compliant to their treatments than non-monitored patients, which may explain some of the benefits

Why is Telehealth in the news at moment?

Page 9: Telehealth: InTechnology’s new patient monitoring services for the NHS

The burden on the NHS is expected to keep growing

• An aging population is driving increased need for health provision

– In Scotland alone, the 65+ population is increasing by 10,000 a year which means that by 2020 they will need 3 new hospitals

– At least 3 million people with Long Term Conditions and/or social care needs could benefit from using telehealth (Department of Health)

• There is no additional funding for NHS ; the status quo is not sustainable.

• There is an urgent need to increase the level of care provided outside hospitals and in the community

Page 10: Telehealth: InTechnology’s new patient monitoring services for the NHS

There is a public health time-bomb about to go off

There will be 18 million people in the UK by 2025 with a long term condition

How does InTechnology’s

Telehealth service work?

Page 12: Telehealth: InTechnology’s new patient monitoring services for the NHS

1. Clinician refers a patient for home monitoring

Patient is diagnosed with a

condition that needs long-term

monitoring

Clinician refers patient to

InHealthcare for monitoring

at home

Page 13: Telehealth: InTechnology’s new patient monitoring services for the NHS

2. We install medical monitoring equipment at patient’s home and train them how to use it

Page 14: Telehealth: InTechnology’s new patient monitoring services for the NHS

3. Every day the patient takes their readings which are uploaded into the InHealthcare platform

Page 15: Telehealth: InTechnology’s new patient monitoring services for the NHS

4. NHS Direct then review the patient’s data to see if everything is OK

Page 16: Telehealth: InTechnology’s new patient monitoring services for the NHS

5. If something is wrong the patient’s clinician is immediately alerted so early action can be taken

Why is InTechnology different?

Page 18: Telehealth: InTechnology’s new patient monitoring services for the NHS

As a telehealth provider, we are unique in the UK

1. We deliver a telehealth service, not a telehealth box.

– We take full responsibility for logistics so nurses can focus on care

2. We take responsibility for all the equipment

– No concerns about unused equipment sitting on shelves.

3. We deliver a bespoke service

– Designed to each NHS organisation’s requirements

4. We offer a hierarchy of telehealth services

– We start from £6 / patient / month which can reduce the average cost per patient by up to 80%.

5. We are constantly upgrading and adding new capabilities

– There is no chance of the service becoming out of date

SUMMARY• Telehealth is a powerful tool for the NHS to care for increasing numbers of

patients in their own homes

– Clinical trials have shown the potential of telehealth – such as a 45% reduction in mortality – if it is done correctly

– Telehealth should be a normal part of caring for someone in the community.

• Our approach is unique in the UK because we are service – not box – orientated

– We use open standards for system interoperability, and are technology agnostic so can use the best vendors available

• In short, we offer telehealth that delivers outcomes
