Network Utilization of NBCU Olympics Clip

1s bandwidth averaging from the wireshark capture

TCP based transport

Bandwidth utilization appears greedy

Initial bandwidth spike of 27.7 Mbit!

Avg bitrate of 2.4Mbit has much higher excursions

Silverlight Lab Capture Scenario

Big Buck Bunny Encoded via MS Expression Encoder 1080p standard profile

VC-1, 10 bitrates from 230k up to 6Mbit

Pristine 1GB Lab Network

Unconstrained, 10Mbit, 6.5Mbit, 4.5Mbit Policing with Aune Box

Policing done with a 250,000 byte Commited Burst Size (CBS) Buffer

Results:

Protocol appears greedy with massive bandwidth spikes

Even though 6Mbit claimed available, Silverlight did not appear to actually stream to that rate delivering 2-3 Mbit video!
