I seriously don’t know how to start this letter…I

just...wow. I’m speechless. I’m so happy to be

providing the teen2teen for all of you. I’ve had

people come up to me that I barely recognize

and tell me that they read my article and what it

meant to them. I can’t begin to explain how that

makes me feel, but it always makes my day. I’m

not doing teen2teen for me, I’m doing it for you –

and when I get thanked for putting my work and

opinions out there I just feel so amazing.

So…thank you. Thank you for reading the

articles every month. Thank you for giving me

your ideas, thank you for being such amazing

teenagers in Asheboro. I try to do my best when

coming up with ideas for articles and events for you

guys to be able to not only enjoy, but participate

in. I really want this magazine to someday be able

to be absolutely full of things you guys have given

me. Don’t get me wrong, I love writing, but this

isn’t my magazine. It’s yours.

Also I’m happy to welcome Dustin Saunders as

our new Editor, and Blake Shaw as our new staff

photographer! Both are seniors at Asheboro High

School, as well as good, good friends of mine. Just

last night they came over to cheer me up because

I’ve been feeling under the weather. I’m so happy

to have them on my team.

Thank you guys so much for supporting

teen2teen and me throughout our starting months.

You’re all so amazing; you brighten my day so

much. So I’m happy to be presenting our October

edition for you. Now that we’ve gone online we

can finally do all the things we want with the

unlimited space we have. So don’t hesitate if you

have something you want to contribute. If you

click my picture you will be taken to my Facebook,

if you’re not friends with me yet definitely add me

and share your ideas with me!

Stay Beautiful,

Lauren

...from the newest member of teen2teen! Before

I begin the first of my monthly rants (…um…

letters, that’s what I’m supposed to call them), I

believe an introduction is in order. I am Dustin

Saunders, a Senior at Asheboro High School

and overall nerd. You’ll all get to know me very

well from the many articles with which I plan to

inundate teen2teen.

I’d like to extend my deepest heartfelt gratitude

to Lauren Johnson, my Bosslady, for giving me

the opportunity to work on teen2teen and be her

right-hand-man. But, even more thanks go out to

you, teens, for being you! We’re here to serve you,

and I hope that my writing can help to accomplish

this goal.

I certainly hope that you all enjoy this issue, as

we have some pretty cool stuff within. If there’s

ever any content that you – yes, you – would like

to see or contribute, let Lauren or me know! We

will be more than happy to accommodate you,

showcase your talent, or take any suggestions. For

those of you who don’t yet know me, I invite you to

Facebook me! That’s the best way to get in contact.

I can be found on the teen2teen page (which,

coincidentally, you all should like). Anyway,

enough shameless promotion…enjoy the issue!

Stay classy Asheboro,

Dustin

We as teenagers are often told of our limitless potential. The

mantras are familiar to us: “You can do anything you set your

mind to!” or “the sky is the limit!” Yet, many become frustrated

when we try to do something and we experience initial failure.

This is especially true when the ones holding us back are the

very ones who say that there is nothing holding us back. It is a

vexing conundrum indeed, and it causes many to give up on

their dreams without realizing what exactly is possible.

Though the phrase is cliché, we can do anything that we

put our minds to. Whether your goal is something large, like

changing the world, or small, like succeeding in your studies,

it is possible. Teenagers and adolescents have been the ones

to accomplish some of the most impressive feats throughout

history. For example, in Alabama during the Civil Rights

Movement of the 1960s, a group of African-American teenagers

were willfully arrested for petty truancy, knowing that they

would fill up the town’s jail to prevent other protesters from

being taken in. A small cadre of youth played a role in one of our

nation’s most historic time periods. If minors in a persecuted

minority can accomplish something, so can you!

Alas, Rome was not built in a day. We must begin with small

steps before we can run a marathon. Surely we cannot wake

up in the morning with the thought, “I’m going to irrevocably

change history today.” However, our quotidian actions

accumulate to build our character, strengthen our identity, and

eventually change the world.

Indeed, we are placed upon this Earth for a reason. We

were created with greatness in mind. It may seem as if we are

an insignificant human, but this fallacy must be avoided. As

Charlie Bartlett so eloquently put it, “You aren’t just any human

being in the history of human beings, but a human being that

gets to be alive today.” We must remember that today, WE are

who are alive and WE make the differences. Though it exists

linguistically, for us as a principle, there is no such thing as the

word “can’t.”

than bass.• Rob-Guitar and bass. Were you/are you involved in music at school? •Brian-I was in several bands when I was in school, but I never actually took any music classes.• Michael-Yes: I was in the percussion section in my middle school and high school bands, as well as on the high school drum line.• Lucas-No. In school, I was more into sports than music.• Mitch-I never played with the high school band or anything, but I jammed with friends.• Rob-No, actually. In high school I wasn’t involved in music at all. I was super busy with football, so there wasn’t a lot of time for music. What school do you go to? •Brian-I went to Trinity High School.• Michael-I went to Asheboro High School.• Lucas-I attended Southwest Randolph High School.• Mitch-Trinity High School• Rob-Southwestern Randolph High School.Did you always know you wanted to be in a band? •Brian-Yes, I’ve known since the first time I picked up a

Once I got out of high school, I started to explore music more.Top Five Favorite Bands/Artists: •Brian-City and Colour, Seneca, For All Those Sleeping, Chromeo, Me vs. Hero.• Michael-A Day to Remember, Asking Alexandria, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine, and Five Finger Death Punch.• Lucas-Blink 182, AVA, A Day to Remember, Lil Wayne, and Rise Against.• Mitch-Verara, Stray From the Path, Bad Rabbits, Chelsea Grin, and First Blood.• Rob-It’s tough, but I would have to say Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Reliant K, Angels and Airwaves, and Journey. What made you pick up your instrument in the first place? •Brian-I wanted to learn after hearing my next door neighbor play. He was the coolest and kindest old man that I've ever met, and I wish I could jam with him now to show him what I've learned.• Michael-I’ve always wanted to play the drums ever since I was a kid. I’ve never really wanted to play anything else.• Lucas-Hearing Blink 182’s album Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. I became very intrigued with the sound of a guitar.• Mitch-Some friends and I decided to make a band, and I got stuck playing bass (which was not what I intended). Now, 7 years later, I love everything about it.• Rob-Like I said before, my dad is a musician, so I never really had the desire to pick up an instrument when I was younger, which is weird because you think I would have. When I was old enough to appreciate music and theory, it started to become more interesting to me, which is why I started to learn guitar from my dad.If you didn't play, what would your life be like? •Brian-My life would be boring and I would feel emotionally unfulfilled.• Michael-Life would most likely be very boring.• Lucas-Very dull and stressful.• Mitch-My life would be lame and a lot more boring.• Rob-Well, to be honest I think it would be the same. Work, friends, girlfriend, and sleep.Without music, what would life be like? •Brian-Without music, life would be very boring. It would be a horrible world to live in.• Michael-Very dull.• Lucas-Silent.• Mitch-Without music, life would be a giant trap with no release or escape for emotions or feelings.• Rob-To be honest, I couldn’t imagine my life without some sort of music. printing company, and all day I listen to music to get inspiration for designs or work.If you could go big, and go on tour, where would you want to go first? •Brian-Either Ireland or Hawaii. I’m of Irish descent, so it would be amazing to tour there. As for Hawaii…well, it’s Hawaii. Who wouldn’t want to go there?• Michael-To be honest, I don’t really care. I love to travel, so going anywhere with the band would be cool.• Lucas-Europe, so that we could be like Journey.• Mitch-Either Japan or Australia.• Rob-Well I hope this doesn’t sound cliché but I would love to go anywhere where people wanted to listen to our music. It doesn’t matter where it is, just as long as they want to listen. How many bands have you been in? •Brian-I’ve been in several small projects, but Destins Tide is one of few serious ones.• Michael-I’ve been in a couple of small groups, but this is the only serious band I’ve played in.• Lucas-I’ve jamed with lots of people, but Destins Tide is the first serious band I’ve been in.• Mitch-I’ve been in a handful of bands, but nothing as serious as Destins Tide.• Rob-Four, including Destins Tide. How is your relationship with the other guys? •Brian-Wonderful; we all have our own lives, but we hang out outside of practice as much as we can. We all generally love each other.• Michael-We all get along great and we hang out outside of practice all the time. We are all pretty much best friends.• Lucas-They are like family to me. You’ve got to love them.• Mitch-We’re all pretty tight, and we’re all good friends.• Rob-They are pretty annoying at times (just kidding!) They are all awesome guys and great musicians. I couldn’t think of a better group of guys to play music with. How did you get in the band? •Brian-I had asked Rob to sing in one of mine and Mitch’s projects, but it didn't last long enough for that to happen. One day, out of nowhere, Rob messaged me and asked me if I'd like to jam and try out for his project. I went and we all clicked. The rest is history!• Michael-I have known Lucas for a couple of years now, and we were in a small band that we just jammed in and he asked me if I wanted to join him and Rob in a little project.• Lucas-I started writing parts for songs, and we took it from there.• Mitch-Brian and I had just left a band in the making, and we heard that Rob was looking for a bass and guitar player, so we hung out one day and it clicked.• Rob-Before this, I was doing my own acoustic music. Then one day Lucas texted me and asked if I would be interested in playing music with him and a guy he knew named Brantley. I agreed, and after playing music together for a while we decided that since we couldn’t really find a singer that I would take over as vocalist.

Each Halloween my friends and I would dress up in crazy outfits and go hunt for sugary treats. One year when I was nine, my friend Grace decided to use her mother’s high heels as part of her costume. Obviously they did not fit her correctly, and they kept slipping off her feet when she walked. As we hiked up to the next creepy house on the street, we noticed a scary decoration on the yard of a man under a tree. Of course, us being the curious type, we slowly edged our way up to the strange decoration to get a closer peek. "Look! He's breathing!" I stated, watching as his chest rose and fell slightly. Grace, not believing me, moved closer to try and prove me wrong. As soon as she got close enough, the man (Who was NOT a decoration) screamed "BOO!" as loud as he could and f lailed his arms at us. Nearly scaring us to death, we ran back to our parents, screaming the whole way. It wasn’t until we got back to the safety of our family that we realized Grace was barefoot. Back in the yard, were her mother’s high heels, which she literally jumped straight out of. I never understood the expression “Jump out of your shoes” until that day.

HALLOWEEN MEMORIES

By Chad

When I was six and seven I wore the same costume because I loved it so much. It was a cow with a hood with ears, and it even had plush utters. I would put it on when it wasn't Halloween too because I loved it that much. When you tapped the stomach it made the "moo" sound. I did it to every house we went to because I was too shy to say "trick-or-treat."On a more terrifying note, my grandmother was to take me Trick-or-Treating when I was six. I remember continuously knocking on the door because my grandmother wouldn’t hurry up, I kept saying "Nanny where are you?" She busted out of her bedroom door dressed as a witch, her face painted green, a broom, everything. She chased me out the door and through the yard while I

cried "Where's my Nanny?"
