Global Citizenship Project

Project Background[Emrawa Secondary Schools for girls ] in [Jordan ] participated in a virtual exchange program hosted by Global Nomads Group. As part of the program, our school collaborated with [High school for Science] in [USA] to develop solutions to the challenges our communities face.We decided to address the problem of [Cigarettes smoking is the most important risk factor for young men and women .It produces a greater relative risk in persons under age50.].To do this, we created a [project format: survey , brochure, flyers, power point , interview ,posters, experiment.]

Why do teens smoke ?There are main reasons that teens smoke are to look mature ,to be like their friends And to experiment .Other reasons, they may Unemployed or may be homeless or They may have a lot of stress and pressures because of economic and personal problems

Smoking Smoking is responsible for several diseases such As cancer .lung cancer is the most common causes of cancer deaths in the world .Smoking raises cancer risk because scientists say There are over 4.000 compounds in cigarette smoke .

Toxic

Toxic is badFor us and damage our cells.

Tar Consists of several cancer causing chemicals when A smoker inhales cigarette smoke 70 % of The tar remains in the lungs.

Nicotine It is highly addictive .smokers find it is very hard to quit because they are hooked on the nicotine .it is an extremely fast acting drug. It reaches the brains within 15 seconds of being inhaled.

Carbon Monoxide This is a poisonous gas .it has no smell or taste The body finds it hard to differentiate carbon monoxide from oxygen and absorbs it into the blood stream.

Smoking Effects Cigarette smoking is the most important risk factor for young men and women .It produces a greater relative risk in persons under age 50 than those over 50.

Teen smokingSmoking is responsible for several diseases such as cancer, long termRespiratory diseases and heart diseases as well as premature death lung cancer is one of the most common causes of cancer deaths in the world .I hope I can give young persons more information about effect of smoking in their health especially teenager .

ProcessFirst ,We have chosen issue for our project and started collecting information and pictures.We made some interviews with teens smokers.We have visited some houses to do the survey, elicit the results.Results of the survey refer that teenagers smoke for differentReasons. Main reasons: to be like friends ,they suffer from stress and pressures.

ProcessWe have made power pointIntroducing the problem Reasons, effects and we suggested some solutions .We did it in computer lab.

Final ProjectOur students collaborated with each others doing signs ,flyers and wall pictures hanging in our school. We also intend to distribute a survey to learn more about smoking in Emrawa after finals.

Our CollaborationWe work with each other collaboratively ,we sit down and discuss our and long term goals .Everyone on the team know What they have to do and when they have to Collaboration do it .helps improve the quality of work .Coordinating efforts between teams and leader Come up with their own challenges

ChallengesProject management challenge was dealing with some difficulties .There is not enough time to continue our action plan .We need to visit some places .our students have started their second exams .the weather was very hot. We divided our work and communicate through whats up to check work .I met our leaders at their break to check their work .

Final ReflectionsAsking students work in small groups to create anti tobacco Advertisements targeted at school magazine .Parents and teacher should communicate with each other and observe teens 'behaviors to find alternative ways to handle these difficult feelings without smoking .School 'guide should help teens at this stage .how can they deal with stressful situations .

Success of this project will see more smokers making more quit attempts after understanding the effect of smoking in their health .I am a proud with my colleagues and GNG stuff I am also a proud with my team because each member of the team takes responsibility for her role achieving project success. At the end ,we want to thank every one who helped us to finish our project .
