Wear it Pink

On Thursday 20 October the Sixth Form students wore pink and sold cakes to support Wear it Pink and raise money for Breast Cancer Campaign. It was a fantastic effort by all and we raised £362.72. Well done Sixth Form.

Unifrog Presentation On Wednesday 10 October, Year 12 students were given an introduction to the useful website Unifrog. It is a post-Sixth Form guidance that allows students to explore the different University courses and Apprenticeships they may be interested in. It takes away some of the stress of finding a University and course suited to you, which is a big relief during such an important year. Kim, who works for Unifrog, gave a talk and she was very clear about how to create a login, using the website and explaining how to use the different tools to narrow down options. She used personal experiences to relate to us and what decisions we have to start making. The website gives all the information someone would need when looking at University, including newspaper ratings, accommodation pricing and distances from home. I found the talk and presentation very useful as I hadn’t realised that there are so many different courses that you can choose from. When we were given our logins, we had the opportunity to go through the website ourselves, searching for courses we may want to do. All of this information and the website has been really helpful to me as I have to start considering what I want to do in two years time. It is an easy way to keep track of the Universities I am interested in and it gives me guidance on writing personal statements and applications. Year 12 will definitely benefit from this programme over the year ahead and all the decisions we need to make about our futures. Natalya McCormick, Year 12

Year 12 and 13 Film Studies

Year 12 and Year 13 Film Studies students have undertaken an 'Independent Researching' fortnight up until Thursday 20 October, wherein lessons are delivered in the style of university seminars. Students have been trained on the 'JStor' academic journal archive and brought their own independent research for group discussion each lesson.

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2016 Teddington school is once again proud to support the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. This year, as well as the Poppy, there are a number of items including keyrings, bracelets and rulers on sale. The first Poppy Appeal was held in 1921, the founding year of The Royal British Legion. Red silk poppies, inspired by the famous First World War poem In Flanders Fields, sold out instantly and raised more than £106,000. The funds helped WW1 veterans find employment and housing after the war. The following year, the Poppy Factory was set up, employing disabled ex-Servicemen to create the poppies to sell during the appeal. Today, the factory still produces millions of poppies each year. We hope students will join us in supporting this worthy charity.
