Final Cut Pro 7

For the editing of our music video we used the software Final Cut Pro 7, created by Apple. Final Cut Pro allowed us to precisely cut our various shots and piece them together to create a professional looking music video. It was especially helpful in slowing down certain shots and using fades and dissolves to transition into different scenes. Our initial idea was to have the flashbacks in black and white, as we wanted to follow the conventions of normal music videos. Final Cut Pro 7 made it possible to stick to the conventions with the use of the desaturate tool. Using the desaturate tool will hopefully make it clear to the audience that the selected black and white scenes that they are watching are not at the present time.

Adobe Photoshop CS5

Photoshop was used in the creation of our Digipak for our music video. Because the song we decided to use is a remix version, instead of the original, we decided to style our Digipak as a compilation album, instead of just a single or the original album cover. After a small group meeting, we came to the conclusion to style our Digipak as following the conventions of the PBR&B genre, by having an element of mystery. Our Digipak includes black and white images with top-right lighting. The use of the top-right lighting creates light on the left side of the girls face and shadows across her right, which is closer to the camera. The fact that her face is shadowed creates an element of secrecy and the smoke drifting towards the light symbolizes the transition of the music into spiritual energy. As PBR&B music is thought to be psychedelic and intoxicating.
