Wednesday, November 14, 2012 • To introduce subject

and predicates, I ask the class to listen to me sing a song that I learned in elementary school

• A verb starts off the predicate part of a sentence

A sen-tence, sen-tence, sen-tence, has

five parts, parts, parts. It has a sub-ject and a

verb and it makes sense. It has a cap-it-al let-ter and an end

mark, mark. Now that’s the five parts of a sen-tence, aren’t we

SMART!

WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT?

Next I show the students a PowerPoint on subjects and

predicates.

Schedule • Then , I explain to the students ways you can

distinguish between subjects and predicates.

• Nouns names a person, place, or things.• The complete predicate of a sentence tells what

the subject does or is. It includes a verb and all other details that describe what is going on.

• There are two types of verbs• Tells what the subject is doing (Action- what you

can see)• Shows a state of being (You cannot see)
