*PD14 Duel Fuel Units are designed for outdoor installationsonly in either residential or light commercial applications andare available in 2, 2-1/2, 3, 3-1/2 & 4 ton sizes. They aredesigned for 208/230 volt single phase applications.The connecting ductwork (Supply and Return) can be con-nected for either horizontal or vertical airflow. In the verticalapplication, a matching Roof Curb is recommended.A return air filter must be installed behind the return air grille(s)or provision must be made for a filter in an accessible loca-tion within the return air duct. The minimum filter area shouldnot be less than those sizes listed in the Specification Sec-tion. Under no circumstances should the unit be operatedwithout return air filters.A 3/4" pipe is provided for removal of condensate water fromthe indoor coil. (Do not reduce the drain line size).Refrigerant flow control is achieved by use of an orifice.*PD14 units use the FasTest Access Fitting System whichconsists of a saddle that is either soldered to the suction andliquid lines or is fastened with a locking nut to the accessfitting box (core) and then screwed into the saddle. NOTE:The core must not be removed from the saddle untilthe refrigerant charge has been removed. Failure to doso could result in property damage or personal injury.The single phase units use permanent split capacitors (PSC)design compressors. Starting components are therefore notrequired. A low MFD run capacitor assists the compressorto start and remains in the circuit during operation.The *PD14*****41 models are equipped with EEM blowermotors. EEM motors are constant torque motors with verylow power consumption and are energized by a 24V signalfrom the ignition control board. The EEM features an inte-grated control module.Air for condensing (cooling cycle) is drawn through the out-door coil by a propeller fan, and is discharged vertically outthe top of the unit. The outdoor coil is designed for .0 static.No additional restriction (ductwork) shall be applied.Conditioned air is drawn through the filter(s), field installed,across the coil and back into the conditioned space by theindoor blower.
The *PD14 series package units use the Compliant Scrollcompressor; there are a number of design characteristicswhich are different from the traditional reciprocating compres-sor.- Due to their design Scroll compressors are inherently moretolerant of liquid refrigerant. NOTE: Even though the com-pressor section of a Scroll compressor is more tolerant ofliquid refrigerant, continued flood back or flooded start condi-tions may wash oil from the bearing surfaces causing prema-ture bearing failure.- These Scroll compressors use "POE" orpolyolester oil whichis NOT compatible with mineral oilbased lubricants like 3GS."POE" oil must be used if additional oil is required.- Compliant scroll compressors perform “quiet” shutdownsthat allow the compressor to restart immediately without theneed for a time delay. This compressor will restart even if thesystem has not equalized.- Operating pressures and amp draws may differ from stan-dard reciprocating compressors. This information may befound in the “Cooling Performance Data” section.
Location and Clearances
NOTE: To ensure proper condensate drainage, unit must beinstalled in a level position.
Outside Slab Installation
NOTE: Roof overhang should be no more than 36" and provi-sions made to deflect the warm discharge air out from theoverhang. Minimum clearances are required to avoid air re-circulation and keep the unit operating at peak efficiency.NOTE: To ensure proper condensate drainage, unit must be in-stalled in a level position.

Rooftop Installation
In installations where the unit is installed above ground leveland not serviceable from the ground (Example: Roof Top in-stallations) the installer must provide service platform for ser-vice person with rails or guards in accordance with local codesor ordinances or in their absence with the latest edition of theNational Fuel Gas Code ANSIZ223.1.NOTE: Unit can also use roof curb (and platform for leveling,where necessary) to utilize bottom discharge.
TO PREVENT POSSIBLE PROPERTY DAMAGE, THE UNIT SHOULDREMAIN IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION DURING ALL RIGGING AND MOVINGOPERATIONS. TO FACILITATE LIFTING AND MOVING IF A CRANE ISUSED, PLACE THE UNIT IN AN ADEQUATE CABLE SLING.
WARNING
IMPORTANT: If using bottom discharge with roof curb, duct-work should be attached to the curb prior to installing theunit.Refer to Roof Curb Installation Instructions for proper curbinstallation. Curbing must be installed in compliance withthe National Roofing Contractors Association Manual.

High Altitude Derate - U.S. Installations Only
IMPORTANT NOTE: The gas/electric units naturally deratewith altitude. Do not attempt to increase the firing rate bychanging orifices or increasing the manifold pressure. Thiscan cause poor combustion and equipment failure. At allaltitudes, the manifold pressure must be within 0.3 inchesW.C. of that listed on the nameplate for the fuel used. At allaltitudes and with either fuel, the air temperature rise mustbe within the range listed on the unit nameplate. Refer to theInstallation Manual provided with the LP kit for conversionfrom natural gas to propane gas and for altitude adjustments.When this package unit is installed at high altitude, the ap-propriate High Altitude orifice kit must be installed. As alti-
tude increases, there is a natural reduction in the density ofboth the gas fuel and combustion air. This kit will provide theproper design certified input rate within the specified altituderange. High altitude kits are not approved for use in Canada.For installations above 2,000 feet, use kit HA-02. The HA-02kit is used for both Natural and LP gas at high altitudes.Use LPM-06 propane conversion kit for propane conversionsat altitudes below 2000 feet. Natural gas installations below2000 feet do not require a kit.For propane conversions above 2000 feet, high altitude kitHA-02 is required in addtion to LPM-05 propane conversionkit.
