IntroductionControl systems are mission-critical systems for safe and efficient plant operation. Failure of these systems is unacceptable. Timely access to accurate plant information is crucial, whether you are facing routine maintenance or instrument failure. Intergraph SmartPlant)Instrumentation (formally known as INtools) - the industry-leading instrumentation solution - helps you prevent failure by better managing and storing the history of your control system. You can prevent unscheduled shutdowns by better planning maintenance.Production control systems are evolving thanks to new technology to meet market demand. But the importance of reliability, seamless linking of small to large systems, easy engineering, long-term support and supply of maintenance parts remains unchanged. Yokogawa’s latest integrated production control system, the CENTUM CS 3000 R3, features an open architecture, flexibility, and compatibility with existing systems.Capital projects as well as existing operating facilities that use SPI in combination with CENTUM CS 3000 R3 system can benefit from a data exchange capability that has been developed between the two solutions. This well thought out and customer driven interface allows for the seamless engineering data exchange of I/O card and instrumentation information between the two databases.During the plant design stages, data that is created and managed within SPI (such as I/O lists and related instrument and control system configuration data) can be automatically exported and uploaded into the CENTUM CS 3000 R3 automation system. Such iterations can be done multiple times, where the systems will recognize and track updates, deletes and new data that has been created. However, during the plant operation and maintenance stages, changes are usually often done first into CENTUM CS 3000 R3 system’s database, and by using the bi-directional interface, data can be used to update SPI.

1. Benefits of Using the Engineering Data Exchange Interface

Intergraph SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) engineering software is widely used by engineering contractors and owner/operators and considered to be an industry de-facto standard. Projects that use SPI in combination with the CENTUM CS 3000 R3 system will benefit from the tight integration that has been developed between these two systems. This integration allows for the seamless exchange of data such as I/O lists and related instrumentation and controls system configurations, between the separately maintained databases. Some of the benefits that will be obtained from this easy transfer of information are:

• Reduces Engineering Work Iterations and Typos (Human Error) CENTUM CS 3000 R3 and SPI can share the common engineering data so that the iterated keying of engineering data can be avoided. Reducing the iteration of engineering work will enhance the engineering capability and eliminate the typos so as to ensure the quality and reliability of the engineering data. Especially, engineering efficiency will be greatly improved for large-scale projects with a large quantity of I/O signals.

• Easy to Maintain Data consistency During Plant Life Cycle If CENTUM CS 3000 R3 database is modified during plant operations, the modified data can easily be exported into an XML file, which can be imported to SPI. Thus, keeping the databases in CENTUM CS 3000 R3 and SPI equalized, ensuring consistency for all phases of the plant life-cycle from design, engineering, commissioning, to maintenance.

• User Selectable, Data Exchange More Reliable When importing engineering data, a list of modified contents will be displayed. Users can select the engineering data for importing according to the domain, controller and I/O card of the engineering data so that the user can well grasp the range of the modified engineering data before importing.

2.2 CENTUM CS 3000 Definition File Downloading Method

The first step is to prepare SPI for working with the CENTUM CS 3000 system. This involves importing the CENTUM CS 3000 object definitions and installing the CENTUM CS 3000 Catalog Manager(*) license. SPI does not contain the CENTUM CS 3000 object definitions when shipped. However, following a purchase of the annual subscription licenses for the CENTUM CS 3000 Catalog Manager from Intergraph, these definitions can be downloaded from the following site:http://www.ppo.intergraph.com/smartplant/instrumentation/iee-download.asp (*1)

*1: The catalog manager license will provide access to the Yokogawa CENTUM CS 3000 control system component definition files hosted on the Internet. These files are exclusively for use with SPI for the purpose of configuring and designing the Yokogawa control system and is a must to be used in the design process in order to make the interface function correctly.

Figure Download Yokogawa CENTUM CS 3000 Definition Files

The CENTUM CS 3000 Catalog Manager license is required for acquiring these definitions and for importing/exporting SPI data for CENTUM CS 3000. One license is required for each SPI database server that will exchange data with the CENTUM CS 3000 system. This license is not dependent on SPI database size.

The definitions are updated by YOKOGAWA Web Server when new I/O objects are introduced into the CENTUM CS 3000 R3 system. This allows the SPI library to be kept current with the latest CENTUM CS 3000 definitions. Once the definitions are imported, CENTUM CS 3000 I/O card types will appear in the SPI Reference Data Explorer, as if they were standard SPI panels. The definitions for I/O cards provide information such as card type, allowed channel types and terminal arrangements.Another benefit of importing these definition files is that SPI will be setup with FOUNDATION Fieldbus device definitions. This will provide information such as Manufacturer, Model, Revision and function blocks supported by a given revision. This is a big productivity improvement over having to define all this manually. SPI is also setup to group information according to CENTUM CS 3000 controller names to improve the data transfer process.

TI 33Q01C20-01E June 16,2006-00

2.3 Within the SPI Database After the CENTUM CS 3000 definitions are imported, these definitions can be used as if they are standard SPI panels. CENTUM CS 3000 I/O cards can be configured and I/O channels can be bound to instrument tags. SPI will also allow the name of the CENTUM CS 3000 controller to be specified. If this controller does not exist in the CENTUM CS 3000 database then it will be created when the data is saved to the CENTUM CS 3000 system. SPI has detailed help available on how to correctly configure the CENTUM CS 3000 items.
