2. Introduction The Chair Tarek El-Bawab welcomed all participants and outlined the agenda. First, the attendees were self-introduced. Then, the attached slides were presented by the Chair and discussed item-by-item.
3. Approval of the Globecom 2013 Minutes A motion was made by Athanassios to approve the minutes, the draft of which is posted on TAOS website (www.comsoc.org/~taos). The motion was seconded by Walter and the minutes were approved without remarks.
4. Highlights and Trends Tarek updated the attendees about a number of developments. TAOS has been recertified for three more years. Both the beta version of the TAOS website and the Newsletter have gone live on the 6th of June 2014. Technical themes: Broadband Access & Green Communication/Networks 5. Conference updates Main GC/ICC submission trends have not significantly changed. ONS continues to be at the lower end of symposia submissions. On the other hand, TAOS access Track on Green Communication Systems and Networks has the largest number of submissions in SAC and there is consensus among officers that the track is ready to be elevated to a symposium (Slides # 4 through # 13). 6. TAOS P&P The Chair stated that a Semi-final document of the policies and procedures is now available on TAOS website. This includes updated provisions regarding elections and voting. Final feedback of membership, if any, may be provided no later than Aug 1st, 2014. All TCs are now required to define an Active (Voting) Member, and the definition has to be part of the TC’s P&P. 7. Other Activities/Updates Contributions by TAOS membership to current ComSoc leadership have been updated. TAOS takes pride in being a TC of very high contribution in this regards. Prof. Jaafar Elmirghani encouraged interested TAOS member to participate in the IEEE green ICT activity he is taking a lead in (the activity is now moving to ComSoc). Prof. Fabrizio Granelli is chairing the Standardization Research Group on Software Defined and Virtualized Wireless Access, which is part of a new IEEE standardization effort in this area. He also solicited interest among the TAOS community. Emphasis has been made, once again, on the TC’s continuing policy to look for new volunteers and activists, and to contribute new faces to leading ComSoc activities.
Slides # 15 through # 17 8. Discussions Prof. Octavia Dobre inquired about possibility of TAOS appearances/meetings in OFC. Tarek appreciated the idea, maybe for future consideration. The reason why there have not been regular meetings for the TC in OFC is because the conference is focusing on optical activities only (which are part, but not all, of TAOS scope). 9 Awards The Best Paper Award in ICC 2014 Access Networks and Systems (ANS) Track, Symposium on Selected Areas in Communications was presented to the paper: “How Vectoring in G.fast May Cause Neighborhood Wars”, Authored by: Eduardo Medeiros, Lund University, Sweden Thomas Magesacher, Lund University, Sweden Per-Erik Eriksson, Ericsson Research, Kista, Sweden Chenguang Lu, Ericsson Research, Kista, Sweden Per Ödling, Lund University, Sweden The Best Paper Award in the ICC 2014 Green Communications and Computing (GCSN) Track, Symposium on Selected Areas in Communications is presented to the paper: “Dynamic Resource Management in Virtualized Data Centers with Bursty Traffic”, Authored by: Martin Valdez-Vivas, Stanford University, USA Nicholas Bambos, Stanford University, USA John Apostolopoulos, Cisco Systems, USA The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 am Attachments: Meeting Slides
