OuBkgo
Paradise Cables Limited (PCL), established in year 1989 and now one of the leading
manufacturers of cables and conductors in the country, is a corporate unit of Paradise Group of
Industries, located at Fatullah, Narayanganj. The PCL product range includes PVC/XLPE insulated
and sheathed, armoured/unarmoured wires and cables, overhead conductors and cables. (fordetailed product range please refer to list at the end of this catalogue).
The PCL plant is equipped with most modern world class cable manufacturing machinery having
latest electronic microprocessor based controls and automations to manufacture all types of
quality cables and conductors inconformity with latest versions of International standard e.g.
German standards (VDE 0271 & 0250), British standards (BS 6004) etc. In addition PCL
manufactures XLPE insulated cables with screen/without screen and unarmoured/ armoured as
per IEC 60502 up to 33kV system voltage.
The copper and aluminium wire required for manufacture are cables is drawn from the wire rods
produced by Paradise Metallurgical Complex Limited (PMCL), also a Paradise Group company.
The PMCL uses highly refined copper cathodes and Aluminium ingots with high degree of purity
having metal content better than 99.99 % to produce wire rods of conductivity better than the
specified requirements of international standards.
The PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) / XLPE (Cross Linked Polyethylene) cable insulations are now well
known for their excellent electrical and mechanical properties as well as good chemical
resistance. PVC/XLPE cables are simple to handle and easier to make joints. XLPE insulated cables
have maximum operating conductor temperature of 90o
C, whereas PVC insulated cables have
maximum operating conductor temperature of 70o
C. PVC compounds are manufactured in
house by PCL by using world class PVC resins, stabilizers, plasticizers and other chemicals
required to obtain desired properties of PVC compounds as per the relevant international
standards. XLPE compounds are imported from reputed manufacturers.
PCL follows a very strict quality control system. The quality checks start from the receipt of rawmaterials, in-process checks & tests and finished cables. The PCL laboratory is equipped with
latest test equipments to carryout all the necessary tests as per national and International
standard specifications. Each length of cable manufactured is subjected to the tests as per the
relevant International standards. The experienced and technically qualified cable testing
engineers ensure that all the cables leaving the PCL factory meet all the necessary requirements
of the relevant standard.
All cables produced by PCL are marketed with engraved brand name "Paradise Cables
Bangladesh" at an interval of every meter or less.
The continuous quality Assurance System followed by us guarantees the quality of our product,
as a result we received ISO 9002 accreditation in early 1998 and reconfirmed subsequently to the
latest version ISO 9001:2000 certification.

Most important component / raw material in cable manufacture is the conductor insulation. The
performance and properties of cables mainly depend upon the conductor insulating materials. In
the modern cable manufacture the most commonly used materials are PVC, Polyethylene (PE),
Rubber etc. Polyethylene is the most superior in all the insulating materials due to its highinsulation resistance and low dielectric constant. However it lacks in mechanical and thermal
properties. By cross-linking these properties are improved. Cross-linked Polyethylene or XLPE as it
is commonly referred to, is the most superior insulation.
XLPE for cable insulation: PARADISE uses the world famous Sioplas technology for
manufacture of XLPE cables. Polyethylene is a polymer of Hydrogen and Carbon atoms, which
form a long flexible chain. These chains are independent and therefore are loosely connected.
By the process of chemical cross-linking, these chains are linked to form a strong mechanical
bond. The XLPE compound possesses improved mechanical properties without loosing or
degrading the superior electrical properties of PE. XLPE compound is applied by extrusion and is
then cured to cross-link.
Properties of XLPE compound :
Thermal Properties: After cross-linking the thermal resistance of the PE material increases and it
remains stable at higher temperatures. As compared to PVC insulated cable, which is rated for
max. 700
C operation, the XLPE is rated at max. 900
C operation. The low temperature withstand
capacity of XLPE is -400
C as against -150
C for PVC. Due to higher cable operating temperatures
the XLPE insulated cable can carry 20-25% higher current than PVC insulated cable. The thermal
ageing properties are excellent and cables insulated with XLPE have longer life span.
Electrical properties: XLPE offers higher insulation resistance, typically 100 times better than
PVC. The dielectric constant, which is responsible for electrical losses in the cables is less than
half of that of PVC. Therefore the performance of XLPE insulated cables is better, especially for
HT cables.
Mechanical properties: XLPE is mechanically more stronger than PVC, due to cross-linking. It
has better abrasion resistance as compared to PE.
Chemical Resistance: XLPE resists many chemicals, acids, oils and greases.
FRLS properties: The XLPE compound does not contain chlorides, as in the case of PVC,
therefore do not emit harmful Halogen gasses during fire condition. The smoke generation is
also very as compared to PVC. The XLPE is thermosetting compound and therefore cable retains
its electrical integrity for longer duration under fire. The FRLS properties of XLPE are far better
than PVC.

PARADISE manufactures HT XLPE cables upto system voltage 33kV as per the latest International
Standard specifications - IEC 60502-2. This catalogue gives Technical details for 11KV and 33KV cable grades, since these are the most commonly employed system voltages in Bangladesh.
Technical details for other grades will be provided on specific request.
CONDUCTOR :
The Conductor is Plain annealed stranded and compacted round Copper in accordance with
IEC-60228. Compacting of conductor improves its current carrying capacity, reduces losses and
reduces overall cable diameter.
CONDUCTOR SCREEN:
An extruded tight fitting layer of Semi-conducting is provided over the copper conductor as the
provisions of IEC 60502-2.
INSULATION :
The insulation is Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) applied by extrusion as per IEC 60502-2 .
INSULATION SCREEN:
An extruded tight fitting layer of Semi-conducting is provided over the XLPE insulation as the
provisions of IEC 60502-2.
METALLIC SCREEN:
A metallic screen of copper is provided over insulation screen as per the provisions of IEC
60502-2.
INNER COVERING :
Inner covering of extruded or taped PVC is provided wherever applicable as per IEC 60502-2.
ARMOUR:
Armour is optional Paradise offers armouring by Round wires or Flat wires or Double tapes. The
material of armour for Single core is aluminium whereas, for multi-core cables it is Galvanized
Steel. Counter helix of Galvanized steel tape is provided on request for round steel wire & Flat
wire armoured cables. The armour is applied over the inner covering as per IEC 60502-2.
OVER SHEATH :
Over sheath is of extruded PVC as per IEC 60502-2. Special properties for sheath can be
provided on specific request, such as FRLS, anti-termite & anti-rodent, resistance to ultraviolet
radiation etc.
