About six years ago when I joinedWorldVentures we had our eyes on the traveldirect-selling prize and essentially reachedthe top of that space in a relatively short timeBut as wersquove matured as an organizationthe ldquoprizerdquo became something more clearlyunsatisfying to our increasingly values-basedphilosophy We realized that a more meaningfulpurpose and more integral approach to ourbusiness would be equitable sustainable

and focused on our Repsrsquo personal growthand success A promise associated withour brand that made anyone who viewedus or our Reps think of terms like ldquotrustedrdquoldquoexceptionalrdquo ldquobest in the worldrdquo ldquointegrityrdquoldquovaluerdquo ldquocontributionrdquo and most certainlyldquolife-changingrdquo

Now all of this may sound like hyperbole tocreate an artice to obscure the true pursuitof a better bottom line Letrsquos be clear Wersquorecommitted to success as a company and forevery Rep as well but it will meet our denitionof ldquosuccessrdquo only when qualied by the rigorof this litmus test We will test ourselves atevery crossroads of decision-making andpresent what we believe will champion ourCore Values as the best solution Our missionsupported by our Core Values will beacon theway Over time yoursquoll see this manifested inthe language the product and the brand tothe extent that the actions are clear before thewords are spoken

When we made the trip to Las Vegas Iremembered why we named our internationalconvention ldquoUNITEDrdquo Itrsquos a true testament tothe philosophy

According to Benjamin Franklin ldquoenergyand persistence conquer all thingsrdquo And asmany who are involved in direct sales knowpersistence is a quality you must possess inexcess After all a ldquonordquo or ldquomayberdquo can transitionto an all-important ldquoyesrdquo very quickly For all ofthe success hersquos enjoyed with WorldVenturesInternational Marketing Director and trainerDr David Pietsch may never have entered theindustrymdashor mastered the art of livingmdashhad it notbeen for one very persistent Rep

A Minnesota native David had been apracticing chiropractor for about eight years

when he was approached by InternationalMarketing Director Dave Watson who felt hewould be a good t for WorldVentures Duringthe initial phone call though he had full faithand trust in what was being presented to himDavid didnrsquot exactly jump at the opportunity

As with most major decisions in life timing wasthe issue

ldquoHe called me right when they launched thecompany and I chose not to participaterdquo

David says ldquoIt was just not the right time forme I was really focused on my practicerdquo

Despite the good doctorrsquos original ldquonordquo DaveWatson was not deterred The saying thatpersistence is key truly applied as he workedto show David the WorldVentures businessmodel And one or two more ldquoAre you readyrdquoquestions were not going to cut it Wersquoretalking double-digit persistence

ldquoHe continued to follow uprdquo David saysldquoHe called me more than 20 times over a20-month period of time Finally he justshowed up at my chiropractic ofce one day

The daughter eventually became a patient andduring each visit David noticed she alwayshad a story to tell about her experiencesand travels with WorldVentures Though hehad joined the company David was still in

neutral and hadnrsquot really begun to explore thepossibilities available to him That all changedwhen he attended a training event in his areaand was introduced to Wayne Nugent andother WorldVentures executives

ldquoI just saw regular people who were havingfunrdquo he says ldquoI had forgotten how to have funIt was just something that was so foreign to methen I was in such a serious profession withso much responsibility and overheadrdquo

Davidrsquos experiences that day kicked him intodrive and he began to immerse himself in theWorldVentures culture

ldquoWhen I rst started Wayne was the mostpolar opposite person from me on the planetrdquohe says ldquoI was a hard-charging work-hard

Since the Zimbabwe team ofcially launchedin December 2011 theyrsquove been dedicated topositively impacting not only the lives of theirteam members but also the community thatso warmly welcomed their dreams

ldquoI have a passion for improving young peoplersquoslives and collectively making a differencerdquoColette says ldquoGiving back is rewarding both

professionally and personally I live my life byMargaret Meadrsquos quote lsquoNever doubt that asmall group of thoughtful committed citizenscan change the world Indeed it is the onlything that ever hasrsquordquo

Among the teamrsquos rst efforts was a June 2012

fundraiser when they held a four-hour Zumba

festival to assist those in need ldquoWe chose theannual Day of the African Child a day observed

around the world for the fundraiserrdquo Colette

says ldquoThe theme for 2012 was education and

empowerment so we made it our goal to empower

little Ray J a local child by helping him get eyesurgery so he could correct his vision while also

bringing blankets and tins of soup for childrenattending a nearby school WorldVentures Rep and

Zumba instructor Aulora Stally led the team as they

participated in the dance-based workout

ldquoSix weeks laterrdquo she continues ldquothanks to thedonations brought in through the fundraiser RayJrsquos eye surgery was a success We also happilyfed and kept warm more than a dozen childrenfrom the schoolrdquo

The Zumba festival resonated with Coletteand the Zimbabwe team leading them toorganize a series of charitable efforts thatallow all those involved to achieve the third

promise in WorldVenturesrsquo mission statementfulllment In September led by Colettersquos sisterand WorldVentures Rep Bernie Costas theteam began the massive project of restoringMount Pleasant Hall a community center in aHarare suburb that was home to communitydevelopment programs and youth activities

ldquoFinding venues for our WorldVenturesmeetings was becoming a challenge for ourfast-growing team so in true Zimbabweanfashion we decided to make a planrdquo Colettesays ldquoFloors were revamped chairs werereupholstered and stairways were repaintedand slowly the hall has reclaimed its status asa hub for the communityrdquo

Within the course of a year the Zimbabweteam had organized and held two Zumbafestivals remodeled the community centerand began working with a charity in ChristonBank that houses young girls and supportsvulnerable minorities like albinos

ldquoFor most of us a happy home and normaleyesight are taken for granted but for thesechildren and Zimbabwersquos albino populationthis presents challenges and calls for actionrdquoColette says ldquoThrough our work wersquoreunlocking the barriers albinos are facingsuch as societal stigma and discriminationand addressing their needs which include

protective sunglasses and sun lotion tosafeguard their very sensitive skin In 2012we held several functions to instill a sense oftogetherness among the albino populationgiving them a platform to share their plight aswell as progressrdquo

Together Colette and WorldVenturesrsquoZimbabwe team are investing their love andpassion in the nation they call home Itrsquos justone more reminder that giving back isnrsquotsomething WorldVentures Reps only talkaboutmdashitrsquos part of everything they do and isat the very foundation of what our companystrives to be

ldquoMy son Gino has been both my inspirationand my reason for pursuing personaldevelopment His mindset and attitude arecompletely different than average 16-year-olds and my goal is to bring this kind ofeducation to every teenager

Both Chris and Rita were as they put itldquoworking their dream jobsrdquo when they wereintroduced to WorldVentures Chris who has abusiness background owned several funeralhomes and Ritarsquos days were kept busy as a

nurse anesthetist Though they were busy withtheir chosen professions both of them werecontent with their schedules and hadnrsquot given amomentrsquos thought to slowing down

Fellow health-care worker and nowWorldVentures National Marketing DirectorBethany Webster who was working as anoperating room nurse at the time was therst to approach the Mayberrys But withconicting work schedules and almost non-existent downtime having a meeting of theminds did not happen immediately

ldquoShe introduced WorldVentures to me and

I took the information home to Chris butbecause of our busy schedules and busy livesliterally it was a week later before we could getback in touch with each other to really sit downand talk about itrdquo Rita says

After doing some research on her own Ritawas ready to join WorldVentures and takeadvantage of the all-inclusive vacationsthat were offered Unbeknownst to her herWorldVentures journey had already begun

ldquoI was intrigued and took my applicationand handed it to Bethanyrdquo she says ldquoIn themeantime Bethany had a travel party at her

home that Chrisrsquo mom was invited to Shecalled him and asked him to come by andtake a look Chris went by and sat downat Bethanyrsquos home and at the end of thepresentation handed a check overrdquo

The couple can laugh at the memory now andthough they may have had their wires crossedabout when they were going to actually joinWorldVentures both agree that the companyrsquos far-ung vacation destinations and travel perks weretoo good to pass up for more than one reason

ldquoThe product itself stood alonerdquo Chris saysldquoEven if there was no business attached the

product was worth it We love to travel andwith our busy schedules the only time we hada chance to be together was when we traveledFinancially and economically it made senserdquo

As the Mayberrys delved deeper into thecompany business model it became clear thatthe opportunity was worth more than just acursory glance

ldquoWe decided to try the product rst Wedidnrsquot do anything with the business for threemonthsrdquo Chris says And though it may sounda little unorthodox a conversation with IMDTroy Brown about insignicance was one of thereasons Chris and Rita decided to pursue thebusiness full time

ldquoI asked him why he had sold his businessto do thisrdquo Chris says ldquoand he told me hehad basically doubled his income that he wasmaking before He was insignicant now towhatrsquos going on in his group It didnrsquot matter ifhe was on the beach or doing whatevermdashhisincome continued to climb That clicked with

me I realized pretty quickly that I needed tostart doing something differently I wanted thelifestyle he hadrdquo

ldquoThe most important thing we did was makethe decision to actually move forwardrdquo Ritasays ldquoFrom there we decided that we weregoing to stay focused and be persistentrdquo

In growing their business the couple usedtheir individual strengths and constantlycommunicated with one another to maximizetheir reach Though this sounds simpleenough the couple was still working in theirprofessional elds when they started working

between 50 and 80 hours a week eachRita remembers that quite often they foundthemselves passing each other by as shearrived home early in the morning from anovernight hospital shift and Chris would just beheading out the door to start his day A quickhug in the middle of the street in their cul-de-sac and they were each on their way again

ldquoWe were time brokerdquo Rita says ldquoI donrsquot knowhow our marriage would have sustained thatChrisrsquo schedule was a bit more exible withhours so as the team would grow and it wouldget busier hersquod work around his schedule togo out and lsquobuildrsquordquo

While Chris clocked miles and spent numerousnights driving to travel parties and givingWorldVentures presentations Rita stayed just asbusy keeping important information on the readyand tasked with remembering key players Thiswas no small feat considering the couple had alarge team that was growing each month

ldquoIrsquod kick the domino and get things startedrdquoRita says ldquoLate nights when he would bedriving home from Mississippi or Alabamawe would always talk to each other no matterhow late it was He would always give me keynames and say lsquoWatch out for this name I
