THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT Teenagers Brody Roybal (15) and Declan Farmer (16) notched three of Team USA’s five goals vs. Italy. By scoring the first two goals and points of his U.S. National Team career, Roybal also became the youngest American ever to score in the Paralympics. That distinction belonged to Farmer for less than 13 minutes as the Tampa native lit the lamp in the first period before assisting on Roybal’s first tally. Farmer now leads the U.S. in goals (5) this season and is tied with Josh Pauls (4-5--9) for the points lead. MONEY IN THE BANK Steve Cash extended his Paralympic shutout streak to 256:20 by stopping all nine Italian shots over 40:18 of action yesterday. Named Best Goaltender of the 2010 Vancouver Paralympic Games, Cash did not allow a goal in 210 minutes at that tournament, making 33 saves. At the 2006 Paralympic Games, he made two saves in 6:02. LANDEROS LOOMS LARGE Defenseman Nikko Landeros posted a game-high three assists vs. It- aly. He also had a team-best five shots on goal and racked up 29:22 of ice time, second-most on Team USA. Landeros has already matched his point total from the 2010 Paralympic Games when he tallied a goal and two assists. BEGINNER’S LUCK All five of Team USA’s goals against Italy were scored by first-time Paralympians: Brody Roybal (2), Declan Farmer, Josh Sweeney and Paul Schaus. Meanwhile, five of the six U.S. assists were credit- ed to Paralympic veterans: Nikko Landeros (3), Taylor Chace, Josh Pauls. Farmer had the sixth U.S. assist. Team USA’s has eight Paralympic veterans and nine newcomers. DEFENDING GOLD MEDALISTS Eight players return from the 2010 U.S. squad that captured the gold medal in Vancouver, including goaltender Steve Cash; defenseman Taylor Chace, Nikko Landeros and Andy Yohe; and forwards Adam Page, Josh Pauls and Greg Shaw. Additionally, Cash, Chace, Lipsett and Yohe all played on the 2006 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team that took home the bronze medal in Torino, Italy.
