Be the next MVP!

What we doTeam Up For 1 is dear to our hearts, this concept has been around for a while – but we knew of tons of kids who were waiting to be adopted by a sports team AND just as important – we knew there is a very long waiting list of college and high school sports waiting to adopt them. So we put our heads together and came up with TU41 and created an efficient game plan to get the job done. But we didn’t stop there – we knew the parents and the siblings were also dealing with the same issues but in different ways so we came up with some really unique and important programs for them as well. Now that we’re up and running and “open for business” – we need a lot of help so our arms are wide open and wait-ing for you to join our team!

“If you’re trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it or work around it” - Michael Jordan

Do you love sports? Do you have a favorite team? Do you want to meet the team?

Illness has no offseason. The Team Up For 1 Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for children (and their families) ailing from chronic and life threatening illnesses. We dedicate ourselves to helping teams find children and children find teams. We are in a great position for any child interested to be our next MVP. The foundation has a waiting list of sports programs asking for a child to team up with.

We have already teamed up children with teams at Hopkins University, Stevenson University and the University of Maryland. Similar schools and sports programs are constantly in search of a child for the team to adopt.

Director of Develpoment Artie Spruill said there is a waiting list for teams to take part in this program.

“The Hopkins men’s baseball team, Stevenson lacrosse, Park girls’ lacrosse and the Univeristy of Maryland women’s lacrosse team are ready to participate,” Spruill said.

The experience is unparalleled. The relationships created throughout a season between the team and the child are some that will live with the child, the team, the coaches and parents for the rest of their lives.

Join us for our second MVP Ceremony. The University of Maryland’s baseball team adopted seven-year-old Ty Jones and will be celebrating their season with the Team Up For 1 Foundation community. The players and coaches have developed a special bond with Jones, who suffers from neuroblastoma, a cancer that affects 1,000 children every year.

Jones first met with the team in their clubhouse just hours after a chemotherapy session. The warm comments from the team quickly melted Jones’ initail reserved behavior. Throughout the season, Jones attended games, sat in the dugout during games and hung out with the team in the clubhouse.

The MVP Ceremony will be held Sept. 12 at the University of Maryland, College Park in the Cole Field House from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided and admission is free of charge. The reception is open to all who are interested in the foundation.

Celebrate Ty’s MVP season

The Team Up For 1 Foundation will welcome the first board members fall 2015. Our newly established organization will fill the openings of Outreach Director, Sports Director, Adoption Director and Fundraising Director.

Our Outreach Director will focus on strengthening relationships with the community and developing projects to raise awareness, locally and nationally, for the foundation. Our Sports Director will be broken into multiple sections. Each sport will have its own director. Football will have a Football Director, baseball, a Baseball Director and so on. They will focus the management and organization of all the MVP children in their respective sports. Our Adoption Director will oversee all of the work with social workers and local hospitals. This position will work closely with the families of the children to ensure maximum comfort. Finally, our Fundraising Director will promote the foundation and organize events.

We are excited to bring passionate service members of the community to our organization. With the addition of our board members, we look to expand and bring this service to other cities in the nation.

Breakdown of fundingIn the early stages of our foundation, the funding is primarily out of our pocket. However, our fundraising events will become a staple of our organization. Our most recent event raised $1,500 and was featured in PressBox, a local sports newspaper.Source: Team Up For 1 FoundationCredit: Team Up For 1 Foundation

The brains behind the foundation

Charlie Levine served on the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Jewish Community Center. He is best known for his work forming the Baltimore Jewish Community Center Maccabi sports program. Every year the Jewish Community Center Maccabi Sports Club presents the “Charlie Levine Titkum Olum Award” to the Maccabi athlete who best shows commitment and dedication to community service. He has an extensive background in community service. Levine is the founder and former executive director for the mid-Atlantic Region of the nonprofit Friends of the Israel Defense Forces. Levine’s creation of The Clown Corps, a volunteer clown group that entertains hospitalized children, led to his receiving the Mayor’s Business Recognition Award for Community Service.

Despite numerous successful and recognized service programs, Levine’s drive for community service continues. His newest creation, Team Up For 1 Foundation, has gained attention in the Baltimore area. Levine believes this nonprofit will be his biggest success. He has plans to have offices throughout the nation within the next five years. Teaming up with local universities like Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland are just minor milestones in the eyes of Levine.

“I [have] always been involved in the community,” he said, “and helping others is kind of cool. I heard a story about a kid with autism, and nobody came to his birthday party. That will never happen again. We need to get the word out and find more kids.”

Hear what people are saying!“You have no idea what an impact this has had on him after what he has been through.” - Colleen Jones, mother of Team Up For 1 Foundation MVP Ty Jones

“He does more for this team than just bring out the water. He did his job, and he knows football. He’s in the picture like everyone else.” - Stevenson University Football headcoah Ed Hottle on Andy Moscoso

“I go to practice and games. I help get the players ready. This is a great program for me.” – Team Up For 1 Foundation MVP Andy

Want to get involved?

Would you like to do something for TU41, but can’t get involved on a long term basis? One way to contribute, and have fun at the same time, is to host an Event. You can plan a fundrais-ing event for your community or for your co-workers – and be part of the making everyday better for a child fighting a life threatening illness.

Host our signature event – a TU41 Day – Celebrate your MVP by hosting a TU41 Day. Have your team “swagged” out in TU41 gear while giving the spotlight to your MVP. Teams without an MVP can participate as well bringing awareness to what TU41 is all about.

Promote wellness among your employees – Host a 5K! Many businesses and or-ganizations have held their own 5Ks to support TU41. We have tips and tools to help get you started as well as how to be successful.

Host a Virtual Fundraiser – Employees can raise money for TU41 without leaving their desk chairs! It’s easy and convenient to support your fundraising efforts with only a few clicks! You’ll get your own personal fundraising page where you can choose a hero to honor, post blogs, pictures and set goals. People can easily spread the word about your fundrais-ing efforts via email or through social media sites to collect donations from friends, family, co-workers, vendors and contacts.

Sports Tournament- Just about any sport can be turned into a fundraising tournament. Basketball, golfing, softball and kickball are just a few! We have even seen Wii tournaments and office mini-golf competitions. Charge an entry fee to participate and give the winner a prize (such as a gift card or TU41 Gear!) and send the proceeds to TU41. The Event can be small (like a bake sale or a jump roping contest) or larger (like a 5K or color war challenge). Your only limit is your imagination! Once you come up with an idea, sign up on the “Host an Event” page on the TU41 website. Just fill out an Event Questionnaire telling us what you would like to do and then someone from the TU41 staff will get back to you.

Refer A Child to TU41- Know someone who would be a great fit for TU41? We would love to hear all about them.

Our DreamWe stand by our slogan “All for one and one for all.” We have seen first hand the beneficial outcomes for the child. Not only does the child benefit, but so do the teams, coaches, assistants and family of the child.

Despite our short life, buzz is beginning to spread about our organization. We strive to build relationships in the community, ease the burden of illness and improve the quality of life for our MVPs. We dream that this organization will stretch from coast to coast and all levels of sports programs will be involved.

Please do not hesitate to contact if you or someone you know could benefit from our service. We want to help!
