Good Luck Team UK

On behalf of WorldSkills UK, I would like to congratulate the members of Team UK as they prepare to compete at EuroSkills Budapest 2018, Europe’s most prestigious skills competition.

Working closely with their training managers, employers, training providers and colleges, all of Team UK have been put through their paces in preparation for the challenge of their lifetime. They are now ready to show Europe how apprentices and students from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are truly world-class when they work together as a team.

Involvement in WorldSkills UK Competitions is proven to help young people go further, faster in their training and careers and by competing at EuroSkills we are championing a team of young people who will be role models for the next generation to follow.

Participation in the EuroSkills and WorldSkills Competitions, also enables us to showcase the best of British skills to help attract inward investment and support job creation. Working with our partners across industry, education and governments we will use this international stress test of our skills system to support the UK’s future economic development.

I want us all to rally behind Team UK and unite in celebration of the talents and achievements of these incredible young people.

Go #TeamUK!

Dr Neil BentleyChief Executive WorldSkills UK

Welcome

Well done to every member of Team UK for making it this far. You have proven over many months of training and competition that you have what it takes to represent your country at the very highest level. EuroSkills Budapest is your time to show what you can do.

The skills you are competing in will not only be important to you but also to the success of the UK economy. Apprenticeships and technical education give young people the chance to realise their potential – and you are demonstrating the scale of what can be achieved. Your hard work, ingenuity and determination can be the inspiration for others to follow in your footsteps. Competition at this level is not just about your skills. Success depends on a deep-seated belief in yourselves and the confidence to know that you deserve to be there.

I wish you all the very best of luck. Be there for each other, give it your all and enjoy yourselves. You deserve this, so go for it!Anne Milton Minister of State for Apprenticeships and Skills England

Well done on being selected to represent the UK at Euroskills Budapest. Your dedication and the commitment you have made to get to this stage in your career are an inspiration, and I know that as part of Team UK you will compete fairly and in the spirit of friendship and mutual development.

The time you spend at EuroSkills Budapest will be demanding, both physically and mentally, but it will also be one of the most rewarding experiences in your lives. Competing against the best young talent that Europe has to offer will give you the opportunity to develop your skills, travel to parts of the world that other young people may never get the chance to see and represent your country with integrity and pride.

This is your chance to show to the world that young people from Wales are capable of great things, and that the development of vocational skills is of the utmost importance. You may never have another experience like this so make the most of this opportunity, share what you are doing with the world, and most importantly – enjoy yourselves. Eluned Morgan AM, Minister for Welsh Language and Lifelong Learning

As you set off for EuroSkills Budapest 2018 you have an opportunity to showcase your skills among the best in Europe. Within a competitive environment you have the chance to learn from the best in your skill and to share with them.

Getting to this stage is not easy. The efforts to which you have gone to get this far reflect your determination and your passion for what you do. Along with your teammates I’m sure you will continue to do your communities and yourself proud.

You and the other competitors epitomise the possibilities that young people have in their hands to improve the world through the power of skills. Coming together with like-minded people from across Europe in a spirit of optimism and excellence can only enhance that.

I hope you have an unforgettable experience and take full advantage of the opportunity to show the world what you can do.Dr Paul Smart Deputy Director, Colleges and Young Workforce Division, Scottish Government

Congratulations to the twenty two extremely talented young people on making it into Team UK for EuroSkills Budapest 2018. This is an excellent achievement and you should all feel very proud to be selected as the best person in your skill area to represent the UK at this level.

Making it into Team UK is a clear indication of the hard work, dedication, commitment and technical ability you have all so clearly demonstrated to get this far. You are an inspiration and a role model to other young people.

I wish each of you the very best of luck as you embark on this exciting challenge. I look forward to following your progress and to hearing how you get on in Budapest. It is a great opportunity and I hope you thoroughly enjoy the event and gain valuable experience as well as many happy memories from it.Noel Lavery Permanent Secretary of the Department for the Economy Northern Ireland
