I couldn’t be more thrilled at Team England’s performance at Glasgow 2014.

We topped the medal table for the first time since 1986 and saw the emergence

of the next generation of English talent.

My own journey in athletics started 20 years ago at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada, where I won a gold medal and gained crucial experience of a multi-sport event. I am confident that for our new Commonwealth stars this is just the start of a highly successful career.

The team’s performance owes much to the hard work of everyone behind the scenes, from our medical staff and physios to logistics managers and kit designers.

We set out to put the athletes at the centre of our thinking and to deliver the best prepared and supported team at the Games.

But we are not resting on our laurels and have already started planning for the next stage of our journey, with Youth Games in Samoa in 2015 and St. Lucia in 2017, followed by the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast in 2018. We hope you will join us on our journey.

the Commonwealth games is very, very special to me and the experience I had back at the 1986 games in edinburgh convinced me to stay with the sport and helped me achieve in other areas. I saw the amazing breakthrough talent that emerged from glasgow – it’s seriously impressive and bodes well for the future of the sport in this country.Sir Steve Redgrave

winning gold in Manchester in front of a home crowd was an amazing experience. each experience on my journey from Commonwealth youth games, Commonwealth games to the olympic games made me what I am and the Commonwealth games was a crucial part of that.Beth Tweddle

TESTImoNIalSthe Commonwealth games is a huge event for squash, it is the pinnacle of our international competition. It has always been a massive thing for me to compete in a unified team england. It is a special thing to be part of a multi-sport event which crosses para and able bodied sport.

to be part of the most successful team england ever at my first Commonwealth games, what an incredible opportunity. the way the team rallied around each other and supported each other at the games was incredible.

Competing in the Commonwealth games is no doubt one of the most stressful moments in any athlete’s career. the work team england put in before, during and after the games was amazing and I am personally indebted to them for their efforts.

being part of team england in glasgow was incredible. the great thing about team england was that we were a team. there was just a phenomenal team atmosphere, all the backing and all the support whether it was medical, psychological or nutritional, there was no stone left unturned.

Commonwealth Games England (CGE) leads and manages the participation of Team England at the Commonwealth Games, working closely with each sport’s National Governing Body, our funding partner Sport England and the Games’ Organising Committee.

CGE has been responsible for delivering Team England at the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games since their inception in 1930.

We aim to deliver an excellent performance environment, to raise the profile and reinforce the value, reputation and future of what we believe is a great sporting event.

being part of the Queen’s baton relay as a young person was amazing. It reminded me that diversity doesn’t just come in the form of age but also race and skill and, no matter where you come from, you can all come together for one common cause.

as soon as they said would you like to carry the baton I said absolutely. It is once in a lifetime…you’re not going to get that opportunity again. to feel part of the Queen’s baton relay and the build of pride was really special.Sir Matthew Pinsent

GREG RUThERFoRDGreg Rutherford added Commonwealth long jump gold to his Olympic title on a strong day for England at Glasgow 2014.

Rutherford, who won silver in Delhi four years ago, had an epidural injection in the build-up to make it to qualifying after pulling out of the Glasgow Diamond League event with injury.

But after his first-round effort of 8.12m was matched by South

Africa’s Zarck Visser, his championship pedigree told as he produced a third round leap of 8.20m to snatch a lead that none of his rivals could threaten.

NIcola aDamSThe poster girl of women’s boxing was at it again in Glasgow, claiming another place in the history books as she became the first female Commonwealth Games boxing champion.

Already the Olympic flyweight champion, Adams beat Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh courtesy of a split decision to head home with gold. around her neck.

mIck GaUlTMick Gault came out of retirement for Glasgow 2014 with his sights set on the record books.

Gault needed just one more podium finish to tie Phillip Adams as the most decorated athlete in the competition’s history with 18 medals, something he achieved with bronze in the 10m air pistol.

It was in the back of my mind after london 2012 to retire but this was why I carried on because I’d not represented england or won a gold at the Commonwealth games.David Weir - athletics

Team England was the best supported and prepared in our history. We did this by providing:

ThE lIoN’S DEN – PERFoRmaNcE cENTRE Helping our athletes perform with a dedicated facility offering 54 central mission staff providing operational support, medical, physiology, performance analysis and psychological support across a number of activity areas.

ENGlaND hoUSEWhere athletes, sponsors, friends and family could meet and where the ‘Friendly Games’ nature of the competition shone through. Sponsors, guests, sports fans and partners mixed with athletes and family in a friendly, relaxed and social environment.

ThE clUBhoUSE An athlete’s only safe haven where all team members, athletes, team staff and officials alike could walk to meet their friends and family.

all of the staff and the support teams at team england were so incredibly instrumental in my preparation. I knew I was part of a team, there was a structure in place to support me and to take the pressure off my shoulders and ultimately all there was left for me to do was to jump. The challenge of taking on the Australians in their own backyard is always one of the toughest and most exciting challenges for

any English team. I look forward to leading Team England in their journey Down Under.

We know the welcome will be warm and the competition red hot; the facilities will be fantastic and the crowds – hopefully boosted by a travelling band of England supporters –suitably vocal and inspiring.

The focus for the CGE board and executive will be on making sure that we send the strongest, best prepared and best supported elite English multi-sport team ever to leave these shores.

The Commonwealth Games is the only time when England’s elite athletes compete at a major multi-sport, global event. The English team which will travel to the Gold Coast, Australia in 2018 will be a unique blend of emerging talent and established stars, able-bodied and para-athletes. It will be an embodiment of a modern, inclusive, multi-cultural England while the combination of 17 different sports will deliver a broader audience than any single sports sponsorship property. In addition, the English team competing at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa in 2015 and St Lucia in 2017 will include many of the stars of the future.

This is a unique opportunity to build your brand profile and corporate reputation, motivate your employees, win new clients, boost your credentials as a socially-responsible organisation and above all associate your company with some of the best sporting talent which England has to offer.

We are looking for partners to join us on a four-year journey, culminating in the 2018 Games in the Gold Coast, Australia and including the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2015 and 2017.

national express, a partner since 2010, provided free travel for our athletes to Glasgow, as well as a family and friends programme. They also provided PR and social media support for sponsored athletes.

sse, a key partner for Team England, provided support for athletes and their friends and family, as well as raising the profile of the team by supporting Team England in their poster and advertising campaigns.

nvt supported English athletes and provided expert IT support and technology integration at Games time.

As our official kit partner, Kukri provided all competition, delegate, formal and training wear for Team England with a unified identity across the entire team. The winning relationship also gave fans the opportunity to support Team England with replica products for the first time ever.

Marks & spencer delivered a perfectly English partnership by providing essential support to Team England’s Games time venues, including all food and drink at The Clubhouse, England House and pre and post-Games Team events.

Other Key Partners - sport england, virgin Media, bp, ford, Cisco & arena

It gives you a sense of pride when you see a billboard, bus stop poster or advertisement of the games, with the sponsorship by sse and a positive feeling that we are making a difference to so many.Southern Electric staff member
