Students worked on building their mental math skills this week. I also shared a fun story called “The Wubbles” that introduced the concepts of doubling and halving. We also explored weights, area, and patterns.

Our class has been learning about the different states of matter over the past two weeks. We have conducted experiments involving evaporation, condensation, freezing, and mixing. We have made predictions and written about our conclusions. Ask your child to tell you about our experiment with 3 cups of water.

Literacy
As the school year has
progressed, it has seemed that the
students were getting bored with our
Daily Five Routines during Literacy.
We had a class discussion about this
and I have decided to move the
class into a Reader’s Workshop
model. Students will be allowed more
time to read the books of their
choice, while I will be conferring with
individuals. We all are very excited
about this model, and my hope is
that this new approach will increase
their motivation to read even more.
Ask your child to tell you what he/she
is reading at school. What do they
think of Reader’s Workshop?
