Teaching Holocaust literature in secondary education Speaker Biographies Jenni Adams is Lecturer in Twentieth and Twenty-First Century Literature in the School of English at the University of Sheffield. She is the author of Magic Realism in Holocaust Literature: Troping the Traumatic Real (2011) and the co-editor with Sue Vice of Representing Perpetrators in Holocaust Literature and Film (London 2013) Neil Bermel is Professor of Russian and Slavonic Studies at the University of Sheffield’s School of Languages and Cultures, and has recently translated Helga Weiss’s Helga’s Diary: A Young Girl’s Account of Life in a Concentration Camp from the Czech (London 2013). Darius Jackson is Professional Tutor in Holocaust Education at the Centre for Holocaust Education, Institute of Education, University of London. He taught in schools in Gloucestershire and Birmingham, before becoming Lecturer in History and Citizenship in Education at the University of Birmingham in 2003. His main area of research is using Cultural Historical Activity Theory to explore how children construct sense and meaning when they study the past. Bob Moore is Professor of Twentieth Century European History at the University of Sheffield’s Department of History, and his most recent book is Survivors: Jewish Self- Help and Rescue in Occupied Europe (Oxford 2010). Emma O’Brien is a Lecturer in Holocaust and History Education at the Institute of Education, with a background in teaching History in schools and work at the Imperial War Museum’s Holocaust Exhibition. She is currently undertaking a Doctorate in Education. Paul Salmons is Director of the Institute of Education’s Holocaust Education Programme, and has previously worked as a history teacher and at the Imperial War Museum. He is the author of Reflections, a teaching resource pack that has won international acclaim, and is founder of the IWM’s Fellowship in Holocaust Education. Sue Vice is Professor of English Literature at the University of Sheffield, and has taught Holocaust literature and film for over 15 years. She has written a book on Claude Lanzmann’s film Shoah as well as co-editing Representing Holocaust Perpetrators in Holocaust Literature and Film (London 2013) with Jenni Adams.
