Arguments against using translation
• More English input and as a result, more student output
• Students are trained to “think” in English
• Some concepts are hard to translate in one word, but from a context they are clear
• Translation might be considered as a waste of valuable lesson time: students expect a lot of English, especially in a non-English environment

For successful presentation you should:
• Create a clear context
• Use visuals
• Base the presentation on what students know (ex. Past Simple on the basis of Present Simple)
• Use simple language (Level +1)
• Tolerate errors
• Allow the use of Russian occasionally
• Encourage students to use English and praise them for their efforts

Classroom language
• Use repetitive phrases for instructions
• Teach students a range of classroom language, leave the posters with useful classroom language on the walls
• Reduce your teacher talking time (TTT), keep it simple (Level+1)
• Demonstrate how to do activities, use your body language
