Things to note
Dear Teachers,
The company will present almost one hundred performances during the
tour of “Gair am Air” / “A Word’s a Word”. The timetable is very full. To
help us we ask you please to note the following points:
A teacher must be present during the company’s performances / workshops at your school or when your school visits another school or centre.
When the performance / workshop is held at your school we will need an empty space and clean floor; we should be very grateful if you would move any furniture or equipment before we arrive.
If you are not certain of the arrangements, please phone us at ARAD GOCH.
Members of the company can deal with any minor problems. But if you have any big problems or complex questions, please phone us at ARAD GOCH.
Any complaints should be referred directly to the ARAD GOCH office and not to the actors visiting you.
Detailed arrangements have been made with every school who has asked to be included in the project. Sometimes schools come together to see a performance. We entreat you not to make further arrangements to invite other schools to see the performance at your school, and not to change any arrangements without discussing this first with ARAD GOCH.
We respect and appreciate your comments on our work; we always look forward to receiving them after our visit.
By the same token we appreciate the opportunity to see the children’s work and comments; please remember to send examples of their work to us at ARAD GOCH; if it’s too big to send, phone us - we’ll come and collect it!!
Many children like to respond to our work by sending an email. The address is [email protected]. Our other addresses are on the front of this pack. Our website address is www.aradgoch.org
**************
We hope that you will enjoy the performance!

BOXES Teacher-led activity
Discuss with the pupils what makes them feel happy or sad and angry.
Then decorate two boxes.
Decorate one to represent bad words or unpleasant acts - the sides
could be made rough, sharp and dark.
Decorate the other to represent pleasant ideas - with shiny, smooth,
colourful sides.
These boxes can be used as places to collect ideas about feelings - some may wish to draw a picture or write ideas about nice things to do with friends and place the idea in the box.
They could write a sentence or a short story about something lovely
that happened to them or good things to do to help others - smile,
say ‘hello’ in a happy way.
The unpleasant feelings box could be used to get rid of bad feelings,
or to apologise after doing something bad to a member of the class,
or to list things that they should not do to others.

Story Boxes
Teacher-led activity
Collect three boxes and decorate them
Label the three : Verbs - doing words
Nouns - things
Adjectives - describing words
Each child can choose a word and write it on a single piece of card.
The words should then be sorted into the right boxes.
Each child or group in turn then chooses one word from each box
and tries to create a quick story from them.
A rhythm or sound could be created to accompany the story.
New words can be added to the boxes regularly - creating new
challenges and possibilities e.g.
Climbing, Thinking, Hiding, Shouting, Murmuring, Waiting, Laughing, Sulking, Creeping, Pulling, Seeking, Stretching, Running, Tying
Bottle, Door, Light, Fire, Horse, Aeroplane, River, Bed, Bone, Banana, Window, Cloud, Pocket, Bucket, Handkerchief, Phone, Birthday Cake
Impatient, Angry, Bright, Cheeky, Soft, Cruel, Likeable, Friendly, Shiny, Scared, Hard, Slippery, Brave, Smooth

guess who your friend is. Write sentences around the picture to describe
your friend but without naming him/her. Can the class guess who your
friend is?
Remember to show the colour of the hair and eyes, and write about the
things that your friend does and says.

toys or talking and laughing maybe.

Is it important that you make up – and become friends again?
What is the best way to do this?

Music The music playing during the show is the Waltz in A
b by
Chopin.
Find the music. Ask the pupils to lie on the classroom floor, or
to sit in the story corner with their eyes closed, while you play
them the music.
Ask them how the music makes them feel.
Is the music lively and vigorous, or slow and sleepy?
Is there variety within it?
Ask them to use their fingers and hands to show the music - do
they create slow, smooth movements or quick, jerky ones?
Are there some times when long movements are suitable?
Is it possible to vary the movements?

Who in the class can say the sentence fastest - without tripping over
the words?
Do you know another sentence which is a challenge to say?
