Students must apply to the department for admission to the major.

Credit change: From 49-54 to 48-53 Reason for revision: Three changes are proposed to reflect other changes in the Psychology curriculum and in the Psychology Human Development major. 1. Number of minimum and maximum credits in the Human Development major is decreased by 1 because students are now required to take EDUC 301 (4 credits) instead of either EDUC 301 or PSY 230 (5 credits). 2. Under electives, rather than listing each possible course, we have indicated that students must take 3 upper division breadth courses in areas outside of child development. This revision will make program requirements more parsimonious, and more straightforward for students. Additionally, at present the Human Development major must be updated each time an upper division psychology course is added or cancelled. Listing only the range of breadth course numbers will eliminate the need to revise the major when there are course additions or cancellations. For example, since revisions to the major were last made, the department has added or is in the process of adding PSY 377 (Positive Psychology) and PSY 378 (Personality). Students in the Human Development major should be able to take any upper division breadth course for which they have the prerequisites. Thus, any course added by the department should become an optional elective in the Human Development major. 3. PSY 250 is updated to reflect a proposed revision to the course title. Effect: Resources – None Joanne Carney, Chair of Elementary Education, has reviewed and approved these changes. Change to: Department of Psychology, College of Humanities and Social Sciences

Credit change: From 122-124 to 99 Reason for revision: The proposed revisions to the existing Early Childhood Education Program offer more opportunities to students seeking careers for working with young children and their families. Currently, the field of early childhood education has the need for professionals who can work across a variety of programs: Early Start, Head Start, child care, and in public school settings. The requirements for the diverse settings and positions vary and not all positions require teacher certification. In order to meet the employment qualifications across settings, this proposal responds to the current workforce needs by offering three options. The three options are sequenced with each other to offer a common core of courses that leads to the next option. A student can graduate after completing the major or decide to continue in the program to acquire one or two teaching endorsements. Effect: Resources – None The Special Education Department was consulted because SPED 430 has been removed from the current ECE program. Elimination of SPED 430 is consistent with a proposal approved by WCC, TCCC and ACC for revision of the elementary education certification program. SPED has given approval via this form. Credit change: From 122-124 to 130 This revised P-3 endorsement option offers students more preparation in primary education with the addition of coursework from elementary education that is linked to the internship experience. Students will have two terms working in their primary internship to better prepare them for teaching in public schools and for their capstone assessment, the state-mandated TPA. The time to degree remains the same as in the current early childhood education program. Reason for revision: The proposed revisions to the existing Early Childhood Education Program offer more opportunities to students seeking careers for working with young children and their families. Effect: Resources - None The Special Education Department was consulted because SPED 430 has been removed from the current ECE program. Elimination of SPED 430 is consistent with a proposal approved by WCC, TCCC and ACC for revision of the elementary education certification program. SPED has given approval via this form. Change to:
