Colour

The title of the Album is red and so the colour is boldly featured on the front cover. It is only used for the title which instantly draws the reader in. Taylor Swift is also wearing a bright red lip stick which suggests that she has changed her identity, having matured from a country girl into a woman. This sex appeal is new to her and the red emphasises her lips and her being a woman. This could also symbolise the change in the style of music, perhaps also suggesting a hint of danger, giving the impression of Taylor Swift being Dangerous. This will appeal to a different target audience than her previous ones.

The other colours included are simple like her top and name in white this could convey the idea that she is showing her fans herself and she doesn’t need it to be busy, just herself.

Analysis

The shadow which is covering half of her face implies that she may have a hidden secret or side to her – this may be the danger or sexuality that is highlighted by the red colour that her fans/ audience may never have seen before.

She is not looking directly at the audience which again implies that she may have a secret.

The album cover is very simple compared to her other covers which has glamour such as the pictures shown.

Taylor Swift is the majority of the album cover as her agency wants to promote her and as she is famous and a icon then this will grab her audience. It would also be easily recognisable for her fans or the public.

It communicates the genre as this is a new concept for her album covers as it shows her maturity and a new direction for her identity and music. It is sleek and mature which will be reflected in the music.

Back Cover The back cover of the ‘Red’ Album holds the same

theme as she is half of the frame and so the audience can instantly connect with her,

Unlike the front cover she is looking directly at the audience but her back is turned which again suggests something secretive.

The pose, outfit, hair blowing in the wind and parted lips give her a sex appeal that her fans/audience has never seen before as she was always the girl next door. Hoever the background of a garden suggests that she may just be an ordinary girl.

The text is similar to the front, in the same block, clear and simple font which reinforces her new identity as being simple and sexy.

The colours also emphasis her new found identity, the red indicates a danger or sexuality whilst the black and white are professional and slick.

It also has the key features found on the back covers being the bar code, logos and copyright text. This will be a must on our own digipak.
