Tatu City is very proud to be associated with Chandaria
Industries as the company starts another chapter in its
already successful journey. Chandaria is joining other leading
Kenyan, regional and multi-national companies establishing
manufacturing bases at Tatu Industrial Park. These businesses
represent a significant investment in the Kenyan economy,
are some of the largest employers and generate large
revenues that power the country’s dynamic growth.
Nova Academies, a growing network of affordable, world-class
schools that is changing education across Kenya and the
continent, is launching its first all-girls 8-4-4 boarding high
school at Tatu City, the satellite city development near Nairobi,
in early 2017. Nova’s Tatu campus will become the company’s
regional flagship campus for East Africa. Nova Academies,
which currently operates five schools across South Africa and
Kenya, and which has larger ambitions for the rest of the
continent, will be Tatu City’s first education provider.
Chandaria Industries, the largest tissue and hygiene products manufacturer in East and
Central Africa, will build a new state-of-the-art tissue paper manufacturing facility at
Tatu Industrial Park, East Africa’s leading industrial zone near Nairobi. The company will
construct one of the largest tissue paper manufacturing facilities in Africa as an addition
to its existing manufacturing facility and headquarters in Ruaraka, to meet increasing
demand for Chandaria’s market leading brands. The new facility will be built on 29 acres
and will employ at least 1,000 people.
Nova Academies, which is headed by former Alliance Principal,
Chris Khaemba, will be situated on 20 acres. Several buildings
are currently being constructed for the incoming 2017 class –
including a dormitory, classrooms, an administration building,
and a dual kitchen and dining building.

Tatu City has provided the ground infrastructure that is critical for the
successful completion of the construction of the school. Road paving is
ongoing, along with the extension of the sewer line to Nova Academies
plot. The main water pipes are already installed and will be commissioned
by the end of the year. Placement of a transformer at the
Nova Academies’ site is at an advanced stage, and a security fence has
already been installed on the outer boundary.
For information on enrolling your children at Nova Academes, please visit
www.novaacademies.com/school-application.
The interest has not just been in the property itself; clients have
been interacting with architects to discuss details of designing a
house, and chatting with banks about financing options.
Remember, Kenya Commercial Bank offers preferential rate for
Kijani Ridge buyers, and we are happy to discuss other financing
options with you.
Home buyers have shown strong interest in Tatu City’s residential phase,
Kijani Ridge, snapping up 70% of the serviced plots since the official
launch in July 2015. We have processed more than 66 leases in 2016 with
residents now getting ready to build their homes. At present, a quarter
acre is selling at Ksh 8.5 million and half acre for between Ksh12.5 million
and Ksh15 million.
TATU CITY POWERS UPIn September, Tatu City signed a partnership deal with Kenya Power to
deliver power to Tatu City’s residents and businesses. Implemented in
stages, and sufficient for power demands for the Kijani Ridge residen-
tial area, the central business district and Tatu Industrial Park, as well as
infrastructure such as street lighting and the project’s water pumping
station, the partnership will see the construction of nine initial substa-
tions over three years.
Currently, there are four electricity transformer stations of 1 MVA
completed and 5 under construction. Tatu City has also completed
1km of underground cabling and 5km of overhead cabling.
Speaking after signing the deal, Nick Langford, Kenya Country
Head for Rendeavour, Tatu City’s owner and developer, said,
“We have always placed a premium on Tatu City’s infrastructure,
and we are pleased to have agreed a comprehensive power
solution with Kenya Power.”

WASTE AND WATER WORKSPracticaly in the blink of an eye, the wastewater treatment plant
construction for Tatu City has now been completed. Tatu City will
connect to the Ruai Treatment Plant which is just 8 km from the site.
One of Kenya’s most modern sanitary sewer solutions is at hand!
Tatu City has been working closely with Athi Water Services Board and
the World Bank on the design, construction and funding of this project
for the last two years. 15 km of sewage pipes have been completed,
with a further 5km under construction. We have also built 58 sewage
manholes.
While we are still on water, Tatu City has completed the construction of
two 2,500m3 water storage tanks, which will be connected to the
RUJWASCO (Ruiru Juja Water and Sewerage Company) treatment
plant. Along with this, Tatu City has laid over 20 km of water
connection pipes.
IT’S ALL ABOUT SCRUMS AND TRIESTatu City partnered with the Kenya Rugby Union for test matches
with Hong Kong and youth rugby development. Tatu City was on
board as Associate Test Sponsor to ensure that KRU comfortably
hosted the test matches: two-match series against Hong Kong on 23
and 27 August, and the Uganda fixture in the Rugby Afrique/Elgon
Cup clash on 30 July. We are delighted that Kenya came out on top in
all these fixtures!
UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI
STUDENTS GAIN PRACTICAL
EXPERIENCEAs mentioned in earlier issues of Tatu Buzz, Tatu City is keen to work
in partnership with leading educational institutions in Kenya. Our
work with the University of Nairobi offers practical experience to
postgraduate candidates from the University of Nairobi’s
Department of Real Estate & Construction Management (RECM).
Tatu City and RECM have agreed to establish a framework for
long-term cooperation, with further engagement to include regular
visits by postgraduate candidates for the next five years. The group
of postgraduate candidates included individuals studying for
master’s degrees in valuation and property management and
construction management. Among the group were registered and
practicing architects, quantity surveyors, land valuers, engineers,
land surveyors, project managers, property managers and estate
agents. Tatu City also aims to give the students an opportunity to
master plan a parcel of land scheduled for development, and to
develop a feasibility study for the selected site.

The partnership played a significant role in developing and raising the
profile of test rugby in Kenya. We also aim to support the long-term
development of Kenyan rugby, includeing a commitment to partner
with KRU’s “Get into Rugby” programme. Get into Rugby works with
children to fulfil their growing passion for the sport.

WIDE SPECTRUM OF
RESIDENTIAL OPTIONS
There has been widespread frustration with the level of planning
and infrastructure in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, with overstretched
amenities and little room for expansion. Tatu Industrial Park is the
ideal solution for local, regional and international companies
expanding in Africa through a hub in Kenya. Tatu Industrial Park
provides power, water, sewerage and industrial grade paved roads to
industrial plots of varying sizes. Located within easy proximity to
Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Runda, Kenyatta University, Thika Highway
and the Northern and Eastern Bypasses, Tatu Industrial Park offers
450 acres of serviced industrial land.
Of the 450 acres, 250 acres has been sold and 50 acres are currently
under offer. Construction is already on going on 100 acres of Tatu
Industrial Park with the development of a bottling plant, a coffee
packaging and processing facility, and an energy compound.
Tatu City envisions an open community with housing options to suit any
budget - from single family residential communities like Kijani Ridge to
middle class apartments and affordable housing units.
In early May, Tatu City signed a deal with real estate developer, Lifestyle
Properties, which will construct 1,200 units on 30 acres with prices starting
from Ksh6 million. Tatu City is also in talks with other developers for the
construction of 1,000 low-cost houses with a price tag as low as Ksh2
million. This development will cater to a broad, underserved spectrum of
the market that requires good quality homes at an affordable price.
TATU PRIMARY SCHOOL SCORES
REACH RECORD LEVEL!The health and wellbeing of the communities living around Tatu City is
one of the project’s primary objectives. Tatu City has committed itself to
assisting Tatu Primary School, a government school founded more than
50 years ago. Today it has 250 students and staff members, offering
education in Grades 1-8.
Most students in this school are from underprivileged families and
cannot afford daily meals. In order to improve academic performance,
proper nutrition is essential. Hence, a meals program was launched with
the intention to provide a nutritious mid-day meal on all school days
throughout the year to all 250 students and staff members.

Health & Education
Tatu City is also partnering with the Shamas Rugby Foundation. The
Shamas Rugby Foundation aims to bring positive social change through
the sport, as well as teaching life skills that encourage children to
challenge and change their mindset.
Tatu City is supporting Shamas to provide monthly rugby clinics that
include training and a meal. These programs will expand to Tatu Primary
School and to Ruiru sub-county.
It has been another exhilarating year for Tatu City! We have closed many
deals and reached major milestones throughout the year.
We cannot say that we did it by ourselves. We recognize the key role that
our partners play in making Tatu City a success, and wish to thank you all
for your support. Bring on 2017!
This program has reduced student absenteeism by 90%, and attention
spans and class participation have improved significantly. This reflects
in the above average performance of all students in the test scores
across all grades. The Term 1 (February) average scores were 240.76
and, by end of Term 3 (November), scores increased to 402.24 on
average across all grades.
In addition to the school meals programme, Tatu City is also planning
to continue the rehabilitation of the facilities by providing the school
with new furniture and education materials, such as books and other
learning tools, which will ensure the pupils learn in a secure and
conducive environment.
