Session 6 – Tuesdays 7:30 pm $135“Dear Judy, I’m afraid my dogwon’t work unless I have food inmy hands”.. “Dear Judy, howcan I develop more focus out ofmy dog when we are training?”…“Dear Judy, I’d love to studyfreestyle, can you teach meclean technique to develop precision while allowing my dogto shine?”

If you were the author of any ofthese questions, Step by Stepwas created for you.

This class is based upon thesport of freestyle but carries overinto rally, obedience, evenagility. Clean clear “intent” inhandling is what your dog depends on from his handler.Develop those skills while breaking down behaviors, multiplemove combinations, and creative heel work. The method of backchaining conditions the dog to expect a reward or jackpot at theend of a series of behaviors. This method produces a dog that willdrive for that ending behavior.

Step by Step will give you

A) A technical breakdown of many freestyle movesB) The tools you need to create a focused flow of “work”C) Release of the dependency of holding food in your hand D) Experience back chaining combinations to a delayed reward

Questions about the class? Contact: [email protected] or call: (707) 449-1715

NVDTC NewsletterSeptember-October 2016

Letterto theEditor:Dear Editor,Napa Valley Dog Training Clubput on an agility trial on August20th and 21st. This is an eventthat the club has done for sev-

eral years. After last year’s trial, the membership voted to havea trial in 2016 at a membership meeting. At that time I was nota club member. But on the weekend of the trial, of which the date has beenknown for months by the membership, the only members of theclub present to help both days were: Lori and Karen Jackson,Mary Ash, Linda Wargo, Joy Wood and myself. These six peo-ple were also the ones to set up and break down. On Sunday wehad help from Charlie and Christy Rose. I must also include aformer club member, Theresa Russell, who worked both daysand also picked up the judge from the airport, picked her up forthe trial both days, returned her to her hotel and drove her backto the airport. Theresa also helped out all day. Where was thehelp from the club members that voted to hold the trial? We hadtimes during the trial that the few of us were doing two or morejobs at one time. Lunch was also provided both days for allworkers. I have witnessed a lot of turmoil in this clubsince I rejoined; isn’t it time we start working asa whole instead of this side or that side and putthe club back together? I am not saying that wecan’t have different opinions, just handled dif-ferent. We should be having fun training ourdogs, laughing with each other, encouragingeach other, smiling at each other instead ofpeople bearing teeth. I have heard it stated thatthere are big changes in store for the club byone group, I have no idea what these changesmay be, but it should be working together, pulling together. The only big change thatshould occur is the membership of this club, pulling in their claws, and work to save this organization. Are you, the membership, pre-pared for the closing of the club? It’s time fornomination of officers for 2017. I became aboard member last year because I did not wantto see the club close; I love training my dogs, showing my dogs, training other member’s andnon-member’s dogs, but most importantly, hav-ing time with my dogs, and having them in mylife. I don't mean to be on a soap box, but we need to work together towards a common goal, create an atmosphere where we want to take classes, attendmeetings, support this organization, and each other. If I have offended anyone with this, I am sorry, it was not my intent.
