Youth Ministry
UMYF (Sunday Nights 5:30 - 7:30 pm) Dec 14- Tasty Tunes & Treats - we will set up and clean up the "treats" portion of the event.
You don't need to be here until the event starts at 6:30 pm, and plan on staying late to clean up.

COMING FEBRUARY 21-22: FUSION 2015 We will have a weekend all about GROWING and STRENGTHENING our relationship with
Christ and as a youth group! We will have small group time, worship together, and have a
special team building event at Group Dynamix! Oh, and t shirts. There will be t shirts. Watch
your email for more information on the deposit and to sign up. *Parents, we need host homes
and drivers for this event, we hope you will consider helping out and joining in the fun*
MISSION AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH: The Children's Ministry will be putting together a Christmas play this year for the early
Christmas Eve service. They are looking for help painting the sets and also help to herd the
kiddos at practice and the actual play. Let us or Lindsey know if you need more information at
2015 Mission Trip News: We are working on Mission Trip plans already! We are planning on June 14th - 20th (that
means it is NOT on Father's Day this year- woo hoo!!). Be watching your email because soon
there will be information about your deposit.
Parent Volunteers We are in need of volunteers. If you are interested in getting involved with our youth program,

Children’s Ministry
Attention Parents! Information for Tasty Tunes & Treats If your K - 5th grade child is participating in Tasty Tunes & Treats, please meet in the backroom
(room 127) at 6:00 pm to practice one last time. They will then sit with you until they are called
up to the front.
Children’s Christmas Play - Last Rehearsal Date Attention parents with children in K-5th that have a speaking part for the Christmas Play.
Rehearsal is Sunday, Dec. 21 from 4:00 - 5:30 pm in the sanctuary. Parents, if you have a little
one participating in the Christmas Play as an animal, they will be practicing with us as well.

Children’s Christmas Play - Dec. 24
The children are working so hard at practice and are doing such a wonderful job. They are very
excited to be a part of this play and to share it with all of you. Please come join us Christmas
Eve at 4:30 to watch all the wonderful children!
Children’s Small Groups
Parents - just a reminder that Bible J.A.M. and “the followers” will NOT meet in December. We
will resume our classes in January.
Sunday Morning for Kids Kids' Connection (9:45 am) Children's Worship for K-5th grade. We begin with Worship in the
Sanctuary then transition after the Children's Message to the backroom.
Adventure Zone (11:00 am) Rotation based classes for ages 3 (since last Sept 1) through 5th
grade. We meet in room 127 then break into groups for Bible study, craft, and games.

5th Sunday Salute News
We create care packages and send them to soldiers listed in “Our Military Personnel”. (See below.) Click here to learn more if you are not familiar with 5th Sunday Salute.

Christmas Eve Services Join us on December 24th for the Christmas Eve Service of your choice.
Children/Family Service at 4:30 pm - Geared toward families with children. Our SJA kids
will present a Nativity play. There will be acting and singing to bring the story of Jesus’ birth to
life, as well as a brief message from Pastor Mrc for the adults.
Celebration Service at 7:00 pm - The SJA praise band will lead us in lessons and carols.
Traditional Service at 9:00 pm - The piano, Voices of Faith and hand bell ensemble will lead
us in lessons and carols. Communion will also be served.
Volunteer to be an Usher or Communion Server for Christmas Eve Services Sign up to help with the Christmas eve service(s) as an usher or Communion server. Contact

with the 4:30 pm, 7:00 pm or 9:00 pm service and if you want to help with ushering or
communion. Help at one, two or all three services.
Results from Nov. 16th Carter BloodCare Blood Drive
We had a very successful blood drive on Nov. 16th. Here's a quote from Rebecca Swindell with
Carter BloodCare:
I am so pleased that we saw 23 donors despite the cold weather; that was so great. There was only 1 deferral, so we drew 22 units of life-saving blood! Please know how grateful we are for
your faithfulness in replenishing the community blood supply and helping to save/touch 66 lives
in North Texas."
Attention Parents of Students Graduating in December!
If your son or daughter is graduating in December from college or high school, tell us! Not
everyone graduates in the spring/summer, but should still be recognized. Please send a picture of
your graduate along with the name of the school, so the church office can put it in the January
Newsletter. Please send the information to: [email protected]. The deadline to submit is
Dec. 20th.
Key Codes and Building Entrance For safety reasons, the front doors of the main building will be locked except on Sunday
mornings. You must contact your small groups leader, children’s director, youth director, etc…
to get a key code BEFORE an event so you have access to the building. You may also contact
the church office during regular business hours: 817-468-8484 or [email protected], for
any questions or to get an access code.

Attention Parents of College Students!
Just a reminder, take a picture with your college student once he or she is back home for Christ-
mas vacation, and submit it to SJA for the directory. We have all the information you need for
the perfect directory picture now online at www.sjaumc.org under the calendar/info tab labeled
SJA Church Directory, or click here for details. Don’t want to go to the web page? Then send
your picture to [email protected].

address and contact information. We want to make sure that all information is as up-to-date as

Tasty Tunes & Treats
Tasty Tunes & Treats, our annual Christmas music and dessert night, is THIS SUNDAY, at 6:30
pm. All the SJA music ensembles - Sounds of Grace choir, Voices of Faith choir, praise band,
hand bell choir, children, and preschool - will present special music, and there will be a lot of
congregational Christmas carol singing. And, to top it all off, we'll enjoy Christmas-themed
desserts after the music presentations! Don't miss this special night in the life of our church
family!
White Gift Sundays The tree is up in the sanctuary, so now it’s time to put the presents under it. The Missions Team
asks that you give to help others. There is a table set up in the Friendship Hall with a list of
items needed and more details about “White Gift Sundays”. Please wrap it in plain white paper,
then bring it to church and put it under the Jesse tree. You can bring your gift(s) on Dec. 14 and
Dec. 21.
Blue Christmas Service On Dec. 21, at 7:00 pm, Pastor John will be hosting a “Blue Christmas” Service in the sanctuary.
This service is intended to affirm the joy and hope of the birth of Christ while making a space
for people who are burdened by loss, stress, or other grief.

New! Altar Flowers for 2015 - Pick a Sunday! Celebrate a birthday or anniversary or remember a loved one. There are many Sundays available
in 2015. Stop by the office today and write your name and occasion for any available Sunday.

Backpacks for Kids Starting the beginning of January, SJA will begin providing backpacks filled with food to
students at Amos Elementary (3100 Daniel Drive) who struggle with hunger over the
weekends. We need your help! Will you consider supporting Backpacks for Kids and help feed
these kids? You can make a difference in their lives! Please write the check out to St. John the
Apostle and write Backpacks for Kids on memo line, then place in the offering plate or mail to
the church office. Your donation will be used to purchase food for these children.
$6 to feed one child for one weekend
$220 to feed one child for a whole school year

A Look Ahead… Christmas Eve 2014 By now you have heard about our traditional service with communion and candlelight
expressions at 9:00 pm, and about our Praise service at 7:00 pm with conclusion candlelight. Be
aware also that the 4:30 pm service is also adult friendly. By this I mean that in addition to
special elements for children and family, this service will also offer expressions of worship for
our many members who prefer that early time slot. There will be carols and a devotional, and an
order of service designed to reach all who come.
I look forward to seeing you here for a grand Christmas Eve 2014 at SJA.
