t he answer is simple: tasty tales are remembered forever. We all like to hear them, retell them with enthusiasm and, if possible, experience and savour them ourselves.

Today, we are serving you our ten most important stories, freshly prepared at our fish restaurant inside Kurländer Palais. At Kastenmeiers, we do everything we can to ensure that you feel as comfortable as a fish in water with us. This little booklet tells you how, why, and where it all began …

Why are we serving up ten tasty tales today?

t he chef was just eight years old at the time. He was still living in Lower Bavaria and loved football. Hungry after a kickabout, he cracked an egg into a pan. And that’s when he saw it in the shiny yellow yolk: a restaurant bearing his name, a huge chef’s hat, lots of steaming pots and a gigantic fish.

He didn’t yet realise the significance of the fish, but he was suddenly hooked on the idea of becoming a chef. After all, anyone who can see the future in an egg must surely have a penchant for food …

Sure as eggs is eggs:

once the chef gets an idea in his head, there’s no stopping him. Our restaurant opened in 2010, shortly after he fell in love with our glorious Kurländer Palais. Whether an egg was involved again, we’re not quite sure. All we know is that we have been serving up fish every day between noon and 11.00 p.m. for more than two years now.

And it goes without saying that the fish is freshly caught from our large saltwater and freshwater tanks, and is combined with local and seasonal delicacies of the highest quality. In addition to embarking on exquisite journeys into world cuisine, we also serve a range of culinary classics – but always with Kastenmeiers’ own unique interpretation, of course.

The perfect plaice at Kurländer Palais.

#3: a ma t t Er of philosophy

Page 9: Tasty Sales

do you know our chef’s philosophy? That guests should be able to recognise what’s on their plate even with their eyes closed. The story of the unadulterated, genuine aromas? The ‘close your eyes and enjoy’ routine? Then you will, of course, know that no dish leaves our kitchen without the blessing of our chef.

So if you happen to visit our restaurant before its offi cial opening time, don’t be surprised if you see a couple of blindfolded chaps sitting around the kitchen. It’s all part of our programme and our philosophy, so that you can blindly trust us when it comes to indulgence.

Close your eyes and enjoy.

many big fish have already dined in our beautiful Kurländer Palais. Such as August the Strong, Elector of Saxony, and various other members of the Royal House of Saxony after him. They have all enjoyed many lavish feasts here. As a true wine connoisseur and serious gourmet, August in particular appreciated the Palais as the perfect place to indulge.

He also founded his ‘Society against sobriety’ here, which, combined with the Palais’ large wine cellar, ensured there was never any risk of sudden abstinence. And how right our strong prince was: there’s no better place for a feast.

Recommended by princes.

and that’s something we’re very proud of. In our wine cellar, you will find a few bottles that some people would give their right arm for. But at Kastenmeiers, a short discussion with your experienced waiter is enough to bring delicious rarities, extravagant special editions and our very own famous creations to your table.

What’s more, we are the only restaurant in Germany to offer all wines by the famous Schloss Proschwitz winery, as well as the Gault Miliau-honoured schnapps of Sigi Herzog and a couple of extra treats from the Bavarian godfather of wine Ser Guido.

We have plenty of bottles in our cellar.

the fact that our charming restaurant manager’s surname actually translates as ‘kitchen master’ is a tasty tale in itself. But to claim that all of our great employees only qualified for a job here because of their names would be a slight exaggeration. But we’d still like to share some of their nicknames with you. Mr Bellini, for example, is our bar manager – and he lives up to his name in every way. The manager’s trusted right-hand woman is called Mrs SOS, and our dear Mrs Biff ensures that our restaurant is always spick and span.

The name says it all …

W e love seeing our guests wide-eyed. After all, the eyes don’t lie and can therefore tell us a great deal. For example, if our guests’ eyes roll back in delight, we know we’ve done everything right. And to ensure that your precious eyes are completely content in our company, we have also come up with an idea for our walls. In our gallery at Kastenmeiers, we exhibit a different contemporary art collection from Germany or abroad every two months. We have even hosted Udo Lindenberg’s Likörelle. We don’t mean to fish for compliments, but our gallery is fully booked for the next three years.

A feast for the eyes.
