Unit 57: Photography and Photographic Practice

Research of other photographers work (P1, M1, D1)

Photographer: Rolph Gobits

Theme or focus of images These images are portrait photography, This just basically means the photographer took images of people. These images are a good source for portrait photography because it uses different angles, shades, ages or models and colours. The focus of these images is a person’s face.

Most of the images are taken from head height, but image 2 is taken from slightly below the persons head, giving the image a different feeling.

Within the image I can see that the photographer has focused sourly on the faces of people, and images 1&2

Within the images I can see that behind the model is a standard day to day street, this meaning that it isn’t set up, or made to look the way it is. I can also see how the photographer has used the streets environment to his benefit, like inn image 6, the girl is leaning against a stop sign. But also in image 3, where the girl in lying on the loor and the bridge I right above her (composition wise)

CompositionThe way that the photographer takes the images is quite standard. He just takes the portraits from head height. Apart from image 2, in this image the photographer is slightly below the man’s head height. This is to give an impression of the man’s looking down on the image, so it means he’s looking down on me.

Although photographer is stood at head height, the angels that he takes an image are very different. He takes them from looking down, up. Or on the side of the face, or where the models looking away.

The composition is quite important because the things that the image are placed there for a reason, or should I say the things that aren’t there are not there for a reasonTechniques usedThe shutter speed on these images would have been different on each; this is because the images are captured differently. Some are in the light, some are inside with artificial light, and some are done so the image has a lot of shading. The ISO levels would also have been changed alongside the shutter speed. The F-Stop wouldn’t have been changed much because the images are all very similar and don’t have much of a depth of field too them.Strengths & WeaknessesThere was a few choices I could have made for either off these:

Strengths:

• The angels he takes specific photos are really well don’t, and look really good.• The edits on the colours on the images like the black and white, or the vibrant

colours.

Weaknesses:

• He could have used the Image so much more (could have had more things inside it).

• The angles he takes the images of could have been a little bit better/more exiting.

Weaknesses:

• He could have used the Image so much more (could have had more things inside it).
