DESIGNING FOR A SUBCULTURE | GRUNGE

Grunge is a subgenre of alternative rock music that emerged during the 1980’s in America; inspired by hardcore punk, heavy metal and indie rock. The grunge fashion era emerged during this time.

Grunge fashion does not follow any particular style, the idea is basically towear anything old, plaid and as ripped as possible.

The brief was to design a modern day look inspired by the grunge subculture.

The FEDISA cookbook is a project given to the students annually. The idea is to make garments out of food and photograph them, whilst being as creative as possible. I choose the theme ‘Comfort Food’ and decided to design an italian themed cookbook.

SA FASHION WEEk | RE DENIm COmpETITION 2011

The aim of this competition was to make a garment out of exsisting denim garments and to photograph it in a high fashion way.

My dress is made from exsisting denim jeans which I cut into long strips and hand weaved on a loom that I made.

pINk LUNCH | ROSA vICI 2011 COmpETITION

The FEDISA students were approached by the pink lunch commity to design a garment to showcase at their annual event. Each student was given a category to design for - mine being formal wear and was given the colour scheme. The triangular shapes represent the negative space of the cancer ribbon and represents celebrating the beauty of what is left after having overcome the disease, rather than focussing on what is gone.

COLLECTION LOOkBOARD

Equestrian fashion has been a staple of the fashion industry for many decades and attracts many people of different demographics. I love the sophistication, simplicity and classic lines of equestrian fashion. It’s silhouettes. Despite it;s simplicity there is something very powerful and beautiful about it, much like a horse.
