And not just ci�es, but also regions and smaller municipali�es – any community preparing to become smarter and more livable. RIT Dubai university is offering the Three-Day Smart City Founda�onal Masterclass in collabora�on with TASC.

All types of organiza�ons are exploring the possibili�es of what distributed ledger technologies such as blockchain may bring to solving problems and crea�ng new opportuni�es. The public sector, and in par�cular, ci�es, may benefit greatly from the integra-�on of this new technology. This 3-day masterclass takes a unique hands-on, project-driven approach to learning and discovering the vast poten�al of distributed ledger technology (DLT). It will be en�rely conducted through the lens of applica�ons in the public sector, and in the ‘smart city domain’ in par�cular. Par�cipants, regardless of skill and knowledge at the beginning of the course on day one, will leave on day three ready to take ac�on the following day back at their office.

This masterclass is deliberately designed for par�cipants that don’t necessarily have a technical background. It is delivered to be valuable to a wide range of organiza�onal stakeholders, from entry-level posi�ons right through to senior execu�ves. Instructors use business language, not technical jargon, in order that everyone can benefit. Members of the public sector including their providers and partners, will all gain excep�onal insights that can be ac�ons upon returning to the office. However, anyone who has an interest in the public sector and the future of ci�es will certainly see value in a�ending.

Over half the world’s popula�on live in an urban se�ng now and another two billion will join in the next couple of decades. Our future as humans will be largely lived in ci�es. In order to prepare and build our ci�es to be amazing places to live, work, and play, there is much work to be done and technology will play an essen�al role. New technologies are of par�cular interest, since the challenges of transporta�on, energy, climate, clean air and water, public safety, and so much more are increasingly difficult to solve with exis�ng approaches. Examining and defining the possibili�es of integra�ng distributed ledger technology in helping our ci�es succeed must be part of a governments agenda. This masterclass is the best entry point to begin this discovery.

Bas Boorsma is the managing director of Rainmaking Urban, a company within the global Rain-making group dedicated to smart & sustainable community facilita�on. Bas is also founder and CEO of TASC. Prior to Rainmaking, Bas served in various global and regional leadership posi�ons at Cisco Digi�za�on lead for the Northern European region. Bas is also the author of the well acclaimed book “A New Digital Deal”.

Dr. Jonathan Reichental is an award-winning technology leader and professor. His 30-year career has spanned both the private and public sector. He frequently advises leaders and organi-za�ons about innova�on, and in par�cular he has become an expert in the world of smart ci�es and blockchain technology. He teaches at several universi�es in the United States on a wide range of business and technology topics.

Hock Yun Khoong, a Harvard Business School alumnus, has 30 years experience in the public and private sectors. As Senior Advisor in TembusuPartners, a private equity firm, he specializes in Blockchain investments. He was the Chief Digital Evangelist in Singapore’s InfocommMedia Devel-opment Authority, where he among several na�on-wide programs conceived the Smart Na�on ini�a�ve in 2014, and implemented Singapore’s 3-�er, open access, na�on-wide broadband network from 2003 to 2013.
