Target Target AudienceAudience

& Influences& InfluencesBy Eleanor wright.

Target Audiences Target Audiences • Looking at the classification of the film ‘Brighton Rock’ it is a 15. this is due to

the fact it contains;

1. strong violence2. frequent strong language (eg 'f***').3. portrayals of sexual activity4. discriminatory language or behaviour5. drug taking

• I know this because I looked at the BBFC website about classification of a 15 which ‘Brighton Rock’ is. From this I think they have a target audience of 15 to about 50, as I think it is appealing to a young and old audience. I think it will appeal to older people as this film is a remake of an older version of ‘Brighton Rock’, so it could make the film already known by older people giving it a bigger target audience in 40 to 50 year olds. However this could be a problem as they might not go to see the film as they might think that they like the old one so might not bother seeing the new version.

• ‘Brighton Rock’ will appeal to men and women I think because typically men like violence and this film has this but also it has a romance element to it where the two main characters have a romance together, and this I think makes it also appealing to women as well as men.

• I am looking at ‘Brighton rock’ as I have looked at it in my trailer research and I think it is similar to our film and so will have similar classification and target audience.

Target AudienceTarget Audience• Looking at ‘Brighton Rock’ I think our film is very similar to it,

so I would give it the same classification of 15.• I think out Target audience is 15 to 40 year olds I think the plot

it our film ‘Brighton i’ will appeal to many ages, due to it having an adult plot but still being able to be understood by younger people.

• It would also be for both sexes as it does have the action with in it that men stereotypically like but it has a woman protagonist so it will appeal to woman in our target audience as well. Which will make it also a good film for couples to see together.

• As I mentioned before as we have a woman protagonist, this makes our film quite postmodern as normally you have a man as a protagonist but this postmodern element will I think attract a younger and more independent film fans to our movie.

Target AudienceTarget Audience• We would also have to think about the Social

Economic Grouping of our film.• This is a term that explains groups of class for

example working class, there are six main groups dependent on things for example like your job or household income.

• We have to think which of these groups will our film appeal to in our target audience.

• I think our film can appeal to all classes as it is a film that is about a woman that is middle class but comes from a lower class background this I think will attract many different groups of people making our target audience quite big in size.

InfluencesInfluences• Our film is influenced by many different films. This has helped us

diced plot, characters and many more. Characters Our main character is, Mid 40s an experienced detective and a

Strong female protagonist. She is slightly masculine because of her job. She is Smartly dressed, ordered and neat. Our inspiration for this character came from Morgan Freeman as Detective Somerset in Se7en (1995) but mixed with Pam Grier as Jackie Brown in Jackie Brown (1997).

Our second main character is Mid to Early 20s an inexperienced detective so opposite of our female protagonist. But he is the Helper to her. He is also scruffy and unorganised in appearance. Inspiration was taken from Brad Pitt as Detective Mills in Se7en (1995) and Sam Riley as Pinkie Brown in Brighton Rock (2010).

InfluencesInfluences• Our main influence was ‘Brighton Rock’. • The Mise-en-Scene/setting means a lot in our film

so we decided, like Brighton Rock, to use “Brighton” in our title as that is where our film is set like Brighton Rock.

• We also use sets like under the pier and around the sea front as our main sets like in Brighton Rock trailer.

• They create a Noir-esque effect through half light and we tried to create this effect in our film by using black and white to create a Noir-esque effect.

InfluencesInfluences• Our other influence was Se7en.• We took ideas about the plot form se7en for

example like the relationship between the two detectives is difficult to work out as they become partners for one case.

• Also that they are opposing characters and they create a bond.

• Also the main point of our film is that there are Stylised murder sequences which is very similar to se7en as they have this too.
