Sinnott, Med, PT, DPT Steve Tepper, PT, PhD Michael Friedman, PT, MBA Moving Forward with a Collective Vision • Are entry-level students leaving academic curricula adequately prepared for the realities and demands of managing patients with acute health needs? o Is the bar for mastery well-established such that there is reduced variation in acute care teaching instruction across various academic programs? • Is the current academic trend to not require a full-time hospital-based clinical experience in need of reversal? • To what degree and how can we assuage the legitimate concerns of hospitals relative to hosting students who lack adequate preparation to engage in clinical education within this practice setting? • How is it best to manage the ultimate impact of an under-prepared workforce within the hospital setting? These and many other questions will be addressed in this inaugural gathering. Please join and influence the movement to heighten awareness of the issues of greatest concern to acute care academics and practice and assist in the creation of strategies and solutions that go beyond individual entities. Within the coming weeks, please watch for a call for submissions to author a manuscript for a special topic issue of the Journal of Acute Care Physical Therapy focused exclusively on best-practices for excellence in acute care didactic and clinical instruction.
