    INSPIRING MINDS

Honourable Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India and the Chief Guest at TAPMIs 28th Annual Convocation held on April 2, 2014, stressed on the importance of being good leaders besides being professional managers. Observing that ignited minds were the most powerful resource of the country, he noted the emergence of a new world where education is not marked by boundaries. Congratulating the graduating batch, he elicited the promise that they would work for Indias betterment by being ethical and responsible managers.

Dr. Abdul Kalam calls for ignited minds and ethical leadership

Ratan Tata urges future managers to make a difference

Mr. Ratan N. Tata, Chairman Emeritus, TATA Group of Companies, interacted with TAPMI students on diverse topics as part of the TAPMI Leadership Lecture Series. He emphasised the need for strong leadership and the importance of serving society with responsibility. Management is a practitioners art. It is not inborn; it is learnt and nurtured. Management training is what you do to a persons work skills, whereas management education is what you do to his/her mind. Management education at TAPMI is no different. It focuses on students minds, their thinking process, attitudes, values, aspirations, self-awareness, risk-bearing, tolerance to diversity, ability to get on with the mission under tremendous adversity, and so forth. It is this that distinguishes TAPMI from other business schools.

TAPMI believes that education that is devoid of values and of focus on culture is mechanistic and has no relevance to society. The students of TAPMI inculcate values through their day-to-day life, not through forceful compliance but by exposure to the consequences of their actions for themselves and for society.

Structures and systems can go only a small way in this direction. Respect for cultural diversity and inculcation of values happens in the students over a period of two years at the campus, wherein they encounter the challenges of scarce resources, such as time and energy, of pressing and conflicting needs, such as project works and pre-class preparations, of fiercely competitive scenarios, such as academic performance, simulations, BrandScan and Atharva, of managing their budgets, both personal and that of the Institute, and of adjusting with those from diverse backgrounds, states, religions, castes and academics. They learn to manage themselves by practicing the art of management. This explains the actual theme of TAPMIs learning culture: Management in Practice.

    George K. J.Placement Chair

We, at TAPMI, are initiating the placement process for the batch of 2013-2015. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the invaluable support you have extended to us over the years, with a special mention of the overwhelming response in 2013-14. With our mission statement To excel in post-graduate management education, research and practice in mind, we strive to incorporate the relevant academic inputs so that our students who join you are not just managers but those who have imbibed our mission: Management in Practice. We foster the belief of continuous learning and reflection since it makes our students achievement-oriented and creative. Our students are trained to work with cross-cultural communities and teams, given that they come from across 22 states of India and form a diverse spectrum of educational backgrounds, work experiences and areas of interest.

We are aware and mindful of the industry/organisation-specific training that the new team members are given during the induction programmes. Bearing this in mind we consider attitude as the most important attribute, which not just makes them efficient team players but also helps them evolve into effective leaders. This is in sync with what Winston Churchill once said Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.

We take great pride in our industry partnerships and constantly strive to make this affiliation mutually beneficial. I present to you the batch of 2013-2015.

    Thank you once again.
