Pursuant to A.R.S. 38-431.02, notice is hereby given by the members of the Governing Board of the Tanque Verde Unified School District No. 13 and to the general public, that the board will convene a study session Governing Board meeting open to the public on Tuesday, April 28th, 2009, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Lew Sorensen Educational Resource Center. The Governing Board reserves the right to move into executive session for legal advice with its attorneys for any item listed on the Agenda, in person or by telephone, pursuant to A.R.S. 38-431.03.A.3. Hands Across the Border – Virtually Yours! Using a SKYPE

account, live to live video was conducted with our friends across the border. The students were very excited and this generated renewed enthusiasm for the program. Our friends arrived on Apr. 21 and the exchange is going great. On April 23, we will venture to Sabino Canyon after a Flag and Cultural Exchange Ceremony at the School.

Green Committee

A Nature Trail Grant has been submitted to TVF.

Parents raised over $12,000 toward purchasing laptops for the general classroom teachers. Additionally, they allocated over $6,000 of that for classroom supplies. Rear projection Smartboards and laptops were purchased through Tax Credit dollars for Music and Art.

Training at ACES Our April Town Meeting was cancelled since AIMS testing and Spring Break consumed so much of the month. Students who were recognized by their teachers for demonstrating the March character trait received Tanque Verde pencils. There were many visitors to our Art Show and every aspect was well done. The art work created by the students was amazing and so were the donated works in the silent auction. After expenses, we made an approximate profit of $8900 which will be used to enhance our art program and to help us make some technology acquisitions. This undertaking would not have been nearly as successful without the hard work and commitment of Debbie Sloan, Paula Natsiatka and Susan Bellew. The annual Space Watch, held on March 27, was also a tremendous success. The fifth grade students rotated among four stations and could also take their parents to the computer lab to see a related power point they had created. There was a good turnout of parent and students and the presenters did an excellent job. Plans for next year are already underway. The third grade cluster pilot program will be extended to fourth grade. In this model, all of the gifted students in the grade level will

be placed with one teacher. Thus it is easier to compact the curriculum and meet the needs of these students in the regular classroom. Mrs. Zukowski has graciously agreed to be the cluster teacher. Classrooms are currently engaged in the last Galileo testing, and on May 4th and 5th we will have the final round of DIBELS testing. These, combined with the district grade level assessments, will give teachers important information to consider as we make placements for next year.

With four short weeks left, there are many things yet to accomplish. We will be very busy and the time will pass quickly. Sixth graders will go to camp and fifth graders will go to the symphony. Other grade levels will take a last minute field trip or have in a final guest speaker. There will be parties all around, and we will finish the year with considerable fanfare.

EGJH Principal’s Report April 28, 2009 Board members receive the weekly Emily Gray Junior High electronic newsletter so you should be up to date on what is happening at the school. The staff and new Principal, Greg Miller, are currently developing the schedule for the 2009-2010 school year and 6th grade orientation activities are taking place over the next several weeks. The Student Council sponsored a talent show on Friday, April 24.

Emily Mann 11745 East  Summer Trail Tucson, Arizona  85749 (520) 271‐2641 Emily.mann@pimaregionalsupport.org   April 13, 2009  Tanque Verde Governing Board 11150 East Tanque Verde Road Tucson, Arizona 85749    Dear Tanque Verde Governing Board:   I have been very happy with my time in the Tanque Verde District and it has given me many opportunities.  I have worked with outstanding and inspiring people, felt supported by the community and been able to participate in programs like Hands Across the Boarder, Tech Club, Photo Club, Jumprope Club, Tech Coaching and mentoring, character education programs like Talk It Out, Peace Builders and Character Counts, and many other activities.   I asked for a leave of absence last year to pursue a position with the Office of the Superintendent of Pima County Schools as a Technology Integration Specialist.  The experience working with the county and other educational technology specialists from around the state and beyond has given me great opportunity to learn and share and focus on effective teaching for 21st Century Learners and Educators.  I have gained a great deal and feel excited about bringing it back to the students and teachers of Tanque Verde.  However, the grant has been funded for one more year and I would like to continue in this position for the duration of the funding cycle of the Statewide Instructional Technology Project.  I would like to request an additional leave of absence for the 2009‐2010 school year.     Thank you for your consideration,   Emily Mann Technology Integration Specialist Office of Pima County Schools Superintendent (520) 745‐4588
