Tanner Doezie B100 Brother Bell 9/29/16 Me in 30 Seconds

My name is Tanner Christian Doezie. I am 21 years old, and was born on November 30th 1994 in St Louis Missouri. I have done my best to work hard all my life, especially in school work, and in my work experience. I have had few opportunities to work in a job field, but I have had a ton of experience when it comes to working on projects or on assignments, due to my school experience. I have experience in working with computers, social media, as well as some experience in organization. While growing up, I struggled with school, but was able to turn that weakness into a great strength, which allows me now to persevere to complete the tasks that are assigned to me in a timely manner. One of my strengths, is being able to work effectively with a group, to complete tasks. When I am able to get organized with a group, I am much more effective, and can measure my contribution to the work of the company a lot more. When I put my mind to a task I am assigned to, I try my best to focus solely on that task until it is completed, which can be seen in my work.

Tanner Doezie Brother Bell B100 9/29/16 What Matters Most

There are many characteristics that I myself deem to be important in a person. Some of those include work ethic, having integrity, and the outlook you have towards life. First off, work ethic is a very important characteristic to have in the work force especially. If you don’t have a good work ethic, what is going to push you to complete difficult tasks you may be given. What comes with a good work ethic, is the ability to endure roadblocks that may come up in your work. Sometimes you are working so hard on a project, and you spend so much time doing it, but right before you are done, an aspect of the requirements for the project changes, and throws you for a loop, which can cause a lot of frustration and anger. Some other characteristics that I deem as important, are things such as willingness to work well with others, your ability to be lead in addition to leading, and being able to contribute something positive to society. When you can work with others, that means you are able to listen to everyone’s opinions, and allow for everyone’s contributions to be put into place. Ultimately, what I believe should be the main focus on employer’s minds, when looking for employees, is their desire to work. If you don’t have a desire to do the work as an employee, then what is the point of hiring you? If you are not going to put in the hours to complete your tasks, then why would a company hire you to work for hourly wages? I think one of the most important things in a person, is their honesty. If someone does not have integrity when it comes to dealing in business, then they are mainly doing business based upon greed, and trying to be as wealthy as possible. I believe this is wrong in a sense. If you are doing business JUST to get money, then you are doing business for the wrong reasons. However, if you are doing business for the benefit of feeling accomplished, and to further your business, as well as gain more experience in the work field, and it just so happens that you are getting a couple hundred thousand a year doing it, then that is good favour, and is not something that is bad.

Whole Soul as an Offering In the talk, Your Whole Souls as an Offering Unto Him” by David A Bednar, we learn about the mission statement of Ricks College, which is very similar to the mission statement of Brigham Young University Idaho today. First, to build testimonies of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and encourage living its principles. I take this portion of the mission statement to mean that when we are in our classes, we learn principles that help us to strengthen our testimonies about our Savior Jesus Christ, which will allow us to stay active members of the church throughout our lives. Second, to provide a quality education for students of diverse interests and abilities. This to me, means no matter what your educational abilities are, you can still receive a quality education, tailored to your needs, and will allow you to grow as a civilized member of society. Third, to prepare students for further education and roles as citizens and parents, this is important to me, because ultimately, once we have children, our primary purpose is to teach them the principles of life and the Gospel, that will allow them to continue teaching future generations. When Elder Bednar talks about D&C 4, when the Lord talks about giving him your heart might mind and strength, I can attribute that to our education when we’re at BYU Idaho. If we put our whole heart might mind and strength into our education, then we will be that much more prepared to face the world when we graduate. We are then it affect giving our hustle to her education, and then when we graduate we can bring the principles that we have learned and teach them to our children the rising generation. In our classes we need to be giving our whole heart and effort into our assignments, that way we have the opportunity to utilize all that education that we can before we graduate. When we give our whole soul as an offering them to Christ, we are putting our trust in him and putting our lives and our future is in his hands, but, we will be doing that, knowing that he knows what’s best for us.

Disciple Preparation Center In the Talk A Disciple Preparation Center, by David A Bednar we learn more about how BYU Idaho is, at least in Elder Bednar’s mind, and vision, meant to become a “disciple preparation centre” rather than just a BYU college. Some of the things that Elder Bednar mentions that BYUi and the MTC have in common, such as being in a rather isolated area, having short time periods of student enrolment, focused and intense learning processes, a distinguished dress-code, and being adjacent to a temple. All of these are important ways to become disciple leaders, and ways for students who graduate from BYU-Idaho, to be able to continue following a pattern throughout their lives. When we are at BYU-Idaho, we have the temple nearby. This gives us a reason to keep our covenants with God, and always have the Temple in our view, here at BYU-I that can be seen as literal, AND figurative. We need to have a goal in life, to be able to enter the Temple to be sealed as Families, for Time and All eternity. As we attend BYU Idaho, we are constantly learning, not only by the professors that prepare lessons for us, but constantly can be learning by the Spirit as well, since the Gospel is so prevalent here. The most important point that I can see, however, in this talk, is how important to God, it is to have places of educational value, where the Gospel is the center of all we do. Ultimately, as Elder Bednar states, the home is the best place to learn how to be a disciple of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but while we are in College, BYU-Idaho is one of the best places, for future Business and Church leaders to gain further education. This will not only bless us as students, but as we graduate and take the knowledge we gained from here with us, we can spread the influence of BYU-Idaho, and the Spirit of Ricks, throughout the country, and ultimately, throughout the entire globe.

Making a Living and a Life After reading the talk, Making and Living a Life, I learned about ways I can better view

my work, without focusing solely on monetary aspects of labor, but also on the emotionally rewarding aspects, as well as remembering that really, all things we possess come from God. Ultimately that means that we don’t need all that the world has to offer, such as money, fame, or power, but we can utilize material possessions to help further our education, as well as help profit the wellbeing of those around us. When we work, we are not only working for our survival, but also to build experience, and relationships that will allow us to progress in our journey in life. We are promised as God’s children, that if we seek God’s kingdom before we seek wealth and comfortability in the world, then we will obtain riches by having God provide for us. When we work to please God, and provide for not only ourselves, but also our families, then we will ultimately be happier, because we are not working for the money anymore, but we are working to have a happier lifestyle, and to find fulfillment in our work and in our journey. We not only work because of living, but it is a commandment, because God said Adam needed to work for his food, when cast out of the Garden, so why shouldn’t we have to work, for our life? One thing that really stood out to me, was how there are many different levels of money. Such levels are the love of money, loving money but using it for others’ wellbeing, Loving money and that causes you to work for it, finally the last two levels are both Filthy Lucre, which causes pain to others while obtaining it, and lastly Filthy Lucre and Crime, which is simply wickedness and harm to society, which can also cause pain to others while obtaining it. When this option occurs, we are completely into sin and greed and it is very difficult to keep God’s Commandments, because all we think about is Money, not eternal perspective of things. As we learn how to utilize money to our advantage, and to use it to further our knowledge, and the Work of Salvation, we will not only find Happiness, but we will also find eternal salvation and blessings the will rebound abundantly. https://www.linkedin.com/in/tanner-doezie-04892a22

My Career Leader Assessment

After taking the career leader assessment, I was surprised to learn that I have “notably high interest” in Creative Production. This comes to a surprise to me, because I have never thought of myself as being creative. I have always enjoyed digital photography, and actually have a pretty nice camera, but that is as creative as my abilities, to my knowledge, have gone. I read in the Report, that I would likely enjoy planning events, creating innovative approaches, and designing new products and services as well. This I would have to agree with completely. I really enjoy inventing new ways to do things, and making the feat of accomplishing different tasks, a lot easier, in creative ways.

When I took this quiz, I tried my best to take it without any bias, since I love technology, and I love designing things, I had to mentally tell myself that I should practically take this assessment, rather than blow through it. I tried to put myself in the position that each question was describing, and trying to decide if I actually could see myself in that position in the future. With this mindset, I was able to effectively take this test, and was able to get practical results that allow for me to think of new avenues of professional fields, that would could be potential future careers for me. Now that I think about it, my love of Photography, and design, could in a way be the perfect avenue for me professionally. My key interests section, was able to tell me that I find the initial, creative phase of projects much more stimulating than the later “maintenance” phase, which could not be more true! In my first job, I initially loved calling people on the phone all day every day, but after a few months, it was no longer mentally stimulating, but then right before I came up here to school, I was switched to a different aspect of the company, where I was able to do more of the behind the scenes work, and my stamina and my ability to perform better, increased. My interest in working jumped exponentially, and although I have not been able to continue as of yet here at school, I actually kind of miss my job, and the feeling of creating something that can be searched and purchased. My key motivators, mainly were categorized with Lifestyle, Affiliation, Altruism and then Security. These are all very important to me. Lifestyle is important to me mainly because to me, family and friends are everything, other than God. If I am going through a really difficult situation, then I need to know that I will have a place, such as my home, or apartment, that I can go home to after a long day at work, and can relax, be with my family or friends, and recharge for the next day. Altruism is very important to me, because I need to be able to see that I am making a difference, otherwise I am not as motivated to work to my potential extent. Recognition I believe is important, but not a main point, that should be considered in my motivation. I don’t try and focus on recognition of my good work, however it definitely boosts my confidence levels, and allows for me to see the fruits of my labors come to pass. When I do a good job, I need that reassurance that what I am doing is pleasing to others, otherwise I never truly know if I have done a good job. All in all, I would say that this quiz, was able to tell me a bit more about my potential in the Business field, and was able to help steer me in the right direction, when it comes to choosing a career path that fits not only my personality, but also my motivational abilities.

Industry Analysis

The Industry that I would like to work in, is the Consumer Electronics Industry. This industry includes companies such as Nikon INC, and Apple INC, even Best Buy, and includes products such as Cameras, Cell Phones, TV’s, Video Game Consoles, and other personal electronic devices. There are a total of 265 Billion Dollars that is projected for total global revenue for the Consumer Electronics Industry. The industry revenue has only increased since the year 2000, and this can be largely thanked by the advances in technology, which have made things smaller, faster, and more affordable for the common man. While the actual income itself might not be able to increase too much over the next ten year, because people are making less money than they can spend, due to rising prices for basic life necessities, and rising taxes as well, the advancements will continue to draw people in who CAN afford the products, and this, in turn, will continue to feed the budgets of these larger companies, and allow for more and more advancements. The big players in this industry, are Samsung, Apple, Nikon, Sony, HP, Microsoft, and Hitachi. The country with the largest Consumer Electronics market in the world is in the USA, and this can be attributed to us as Americans being so in love with our connectivity, that we don’t care how we get it, we just want to be fully connected to everyone, all the time, in any part of the world. I don’t think that this is going to be changing any time soon, which means it is a perfect industry for startup companies to take advantage of. Companies like Nest, and Fitbit, and Tesla, have helped revolutionize the way that we communicate and track our daily lives, and this is just going to get more and more connected in the near future, which can be good for these companies, but not as good for the consumer if used in the wrong ways. This industry seems to constantly increase and I think this is because of the advancements in technology, and our growing dependence on technology as well. Generally speaking, it seems like people who work in this industry, tend to stick with it. For example, Apple CEO Tim Cook has been working at Apple since 1998, during which time Apple was just starting to pick up speed, and become much more widely known in the US and the world. There were plenty of opportunities that Tim Cook could have used to leave the company, but since he stuck with it, through the rough patches, he is now the largest stock holder in Apple, and is making a hefty 10.28 Million dollars a year, not including the stock options he has acquired, since becoming CEO. Generally it seems like people who like to work with technology, as well as creativity would best fit in this industry, since it is constantly improving, and becoming more and more outlandish, and advanced. It seems like the best way to enter into this industry, is to gain a college degree that allows you to contribute something to the company, whether it be in IT, or Business, or even international relations, because worldwide companies are always going to need more help running the show. Finally, a company, in order to be successful in this industry, needs to stay with the times, and constantly tweak their products, to keep their consumers happy, and wanting more.

Page 11: Tanner Doezie B100 Full Portfolio

Company Analysis One company I would like to work for is Apple, INC. Apple is located in the Consumer

electronics industry. Some social trends that are impacting the company, include Snapchat, Instagram, constant connection to the web, and capturing life’s moments. This has been a great advantage to Apple, as they just released the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, which both boast brand new cameras, that in the 7 Plus’s case, means much better quality. Also, apple makes up 12.5% of market shares in the Smart Phone Manufacturing industry. Which is another major part of Apple’s target industry. The company is definitely growing financially, with many dividends being payed to shareholders recently. The management style is definitely beneficial to Apple both financially and popularity wise. For example, according to (Interaction Design), the Apple executives meet together every Monday, to discuss the current projects at hand, such as up and coming phones, or tablets or software updates. This is very effective in my opinion because they are constantly reminding the employees of the end goal for different products, at the start of each new work week, which keeps their (employees) focus on production, as well as progression in the company. Some of the strengths that Apple has, are the rate in which they release new products, the updates to their product lines, their shopping experience in stores and their diversity of markets. First, the rate at which they release new products is phenomenal! I always am amazed, that right when people start to get tired of the current iPhone, or iPad, as long as they are selling still, Apple pumps out a new version that allows for an upgrade in both hardware, and in software. This strength of Apple’s, definitely outweighs their weakness, which is that they tend to be a bit behind on the feature train, seeing as Samsung has had certain features months or years before Apple, but one thing that I really like about Apple’s version of the features, is that it is more refined and not as buggy as Samsung’s is right when its released. Another aspect that Apple does really well, in order to obtain as much revenue to pump back into production as possible, is using some of the cheapest methods to produce, and distribute their products. For example, a majority of their products are made in China, which reduces cost of making the materials, however they are much more durable than other products from other companies that are Assembled in China. This is because Apple’s products are assembled in California, whether it be in Cupertino or another facility. This allows for their products to be very well made, and longer lasting than other potential competitors, that assemble their products in other countries, as we all know, which can be more mediocre in build quality. This also gives their brand a very valuable market share, because they take pride and take care in creating their products to the best of their abilities. Some of the ways they make their money, is through targeting music and portability, as well as the ability to stay connected to friends: to the current and future generations, the iPad and Mac to businesses and education, and the Apple Watch, to people who have busy lives, and need to stay connected with their contacts more often.

Role Analysis I would love to work as a marketing director for Nikon or Apple, in the Consumer

Electronics Industry. Currently, Phil Schiller is the marketing director for Apple, and his duties include determining the best way to deliver the products that Apple produces, like the new Apple Watch, the iPhone 7, and the iPad. Daily, Schiller does different marketing and management items, On the other hand at Nikon, while currently they do not have a “Technical Marketing Manager”, that position would include many different responsibilities, such as researching new technologies in greater detail, identifying trends of sales of Nikon products, and new business opportunities with different companies while providing advice to consumers, and training personnel in Mexico, USA, Canada, and Brazil. Some of the personalities that would do well in this role, are those who are very social and can talk to other people easily, also those who have great creative aspects of their lives. Some of the qualifications include proficiency in Adobe products such as Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as using video editing software such as Final Cut Pro, this probably is attributed to being able to help market and tailor ads and tv spots to those who are most likely to purchase Nikon products. Some other qualifications include flexible schedule, communication skills, and experience with Nikon DSLR cameras in general. Generally speaking, I think that someone who does not do well with creativity, would not do well in this position, mainly because they can’t relate as easily to the consumers that are most likely to purchase Nikon Products. For someone starting out in Nikon, at a Marketing position, the base salary, is between 58,000-66,000$ per year. This can increase to up to 75,000$ per year, depending on duration and position. In general, for Marketing or advertising position, you should have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, or even Advertising, or product management. You can also qualify for this position by receiving a masters degree in Sales, Marketing or Business Administration. The career path for someone starting out in this role, is definitely not an easy one, mainly because in order to get to the position of a director in the marketing department of a major corporation, you need to gain experience in the company first. My goal would probably be to gain an internship at Apple or Nikon, and then eventually work my way up the corporate ladder, so that I can gain more work experience so if I were to gain access to this position, I would be able to succeed to the best of my ability. Over the past few years, the role of Marketing director has definitely had to adapt to the changing environment that consumers have been purchasing and seeing advertisements for different products. For example, the use of Billboards is becoming less effective in advertising, than a banner ad on a website, because people just don’t look at billboards like they used to, instead, passengers are glued to their phones, causing companies to gain more exposure by tapping into this mobile market, to spread knowledge of their products. This allows for the Marketing department to experiment with Banner ads on websites, or in-app ads that require people to watch an ad a certain duration, before continuing to the app or game they were intending to use. Ultimately, marketing will always be a part of all companies, and It would definitely be a goal of mine, at this point in my life, to be able to one day follow the footsteps of Philip W Schiller, as marketing Senior Vice President for Apple, Inc.

Business Professional Interview Luke Blais VP of Genova Capital, INC, Graduate of USC Luke along with his Started out of necessity out of the economic downturn, because all of the industries got slaughtered, so they decided to join together to find a better way to make a dollar during. The goal to getting together, was to pursue assets that were going to be foreclosed on. First on apartment buildings that had been foreclosed buying them form the bank, but they ended up buying the banks interest note to the properties before foreclosure, becoming the lendors of the property owners, and then either would work it out with the property owners, or buy them off the owners. They found they could get a cheaper price on the asset before foreclosure. Q: What are your responsibilities in your position as VP of Genova Capital?

a. Financial analysis of the assets is the main focus of Lukes position, so finding out the value, and then trying to negotiate by researching the worth, and purchasing the property for the best price, so they can make a profit on the property in the future. Having to figure out numbers and figure out all aspects of journeying to get the asset in their possession.

Q: What is the hardest part of working in Real Estate? a. Economic downturns really take a toll on the real estate industry, because values

plummet, and most people try to stay away from real estate when that happens. A lot of people during the downturn in real estate, got slammed. A lot of things you can’t control in can be risky in the industry.

Q: What does your day at work consist of typically? a. Every day is different, but mainly revolved around finding the next property deal.

Once they found a bank that would trade assets, then work that relationship as far as it could go, finding new avenues each day, to bolster the relationships with the banks. Finding was everyones goal.

Q: What led to you wanting to work in the Real Estate industry? a. He loved the aspect of projects, or as he called them “puzzles”, or a process on

buying notes, that meant you had to find the right: price, person, house. No two deals were ever the same. His initial venture was real estate developments, building properties.

Q: What do you wish you would have known when you were trying to decide what career path to persue?

a. He wished he would have been more willing to learn on someone else’s dime. When he finished his masters, he wanted to do it all himself, but he said he could have learned so much more from veterans in the field, that could have helped him progress quicker: such as doing an internship, which could have given him a leg up to progress.

Q: What are some of the most important things to remember when working in the Real Estate industry?

a. Risk associated with the industry. Almost always you will have a risk factor, that you MUST recognize each day at work. Also integrity is critical, because you may not be dealt fair hands, but you should do your business with honesty and integrity.

Page 15: Tanner Doezie B100 Full Portfolio

Q: What advice would you give to someone who is trying to decide what aspect of the business world to focus on?

a. Being exposed to different industries is very important, through internships, or conversations with other professionals, so that you explore all of your options, that is the best way to test your interests.

Q: What is the most rewarding part about your line of work? a. Seeing the “puzzle” come together, when you work so hard on a project, and have the

stressors involved in that, it is great to see.

a. I’ve been an Apple fan since my college days (circa 2002). We had bondai blue iMacs in our computer lab and I remember being fascinated by them. They had zip disc drives, if you even know or remember what those were.

b. I originally started working at Apple as an on-site contractor working in the MarCom department. My team built all of the screens needed for marketing materials at 4x or even 16x of native resolution so they could be scaled up for use on billboards or sides of buildings. I was in charge of working cross-functionally with the other various Apple teams to ensure that the screens were build correctly and were accurate representations of the UI and the specific elements we were trying to market and showcase.

a. Greater patience. b. One of the hardest part of any project is setting expectations correctly so that all

parties come out feeling heard, respected and validated; even if you had to tell them no.

c. The second greatest challenge is recognizing that you are working with imperfect beings while striving for perfection. It takes a great deal of patience to carve the man out of the stone. It takes even greater patience to have to rely on your fellow man and work through their imperfections - after all we’re not working with stones, we’re working with people.

11. If applicable, what did you do while you were in College, to help you decide what career path to take, which directed you to Apple, inc?

a. Oddly enough my schooling is in Interior Design, which has helped me tremendously in my current role. Its equal parts strategy, design and marketing. Making it a perfect Segway into a creative producer role. Interior design at it’s core is the essence of simplification by looking at those things are essential for the space. Editing your designs down to their core while planning out the over head and natural lighting, the electrical the flooring, the HVAC, etc. It’s all one giant puzzle and that exactly what a creative producer does. They work to pull together the giant puzzle and keep it all on-schedule.

20 Percent, 3.5 Hours I went to Power to become for 3.5 hours, I learned a lot about how to be successful, but also mainly how to turn a stupid idea into a money maker. First, I learned how I need to crush my fear, by pushing through it, not going around it. Also, I learned that you shouldn’t think that any idea or any effort you give, is wasted. If you have a drive and a desire to learn and grow, then you will be able to succeed, even if the world doesn’t think that you will be successful. Really success is just a mindset, and if you don’t think you will succeed, you most likely won’t be able to succeed. We need to Watched Ted talks for (1.25 hours) -In “the future of Money” I learned about how Money, and how we all have decided the value of this money. Money isn’t really worth anything, but we as human beings have determined the value of money. When we talk of the future of money, we are removing the physical aspect, and the security of the money, will become more and more safe. Crypto-currency is an example of this, and BitCoin is also a great example. -I watched the Ted Talks called the 6 killer apps of Prosperity, that sets the Western cultures apart from the world. These are competition, the scientific revolution, property rights, modern medicine, the consumer society, and the work ethic. Ultimately, Niall Ferguson said that China is slowly overtaking America as the richest country in the world, and this is becoming more and more true the les worth ethic Americans have. -I also watched the Ted Talk called how to build a business that lasts 100 years. Currently it is projected that within about 32 percent of all companies, the average company only lasts about 5 years, until it will fizzle out. Some of the things I learned, is that in order to have a business that lasts 100 years, you need to adapt to the ever-changing world that your company is apart of. Because of invention and innovation, companies will become defunct if they cannot adapt to changing times quickly enough. -In the Ted Talk “Want to innovate? Become a ‘Now-ist’”, I learned that we need to be pushing innovation to its limits, in order to become a “now-ist”. If we stay set in our ways, and don’t get with the times, trying to stick to “traditional” ways to do things, and progress, then we wont get anywhere. We need to be testing out our ideas, rather than just writing them down. Instead of just aspiring to be an inventor, start inventing now, so that you can progress quicker. As we push innovation to the limits, we will find that our world will progress at a much faster rate, than if we let it sit idle, doing nothing to prod it forward. -The Ted Talk “We are Makers” by Dale Dougherty was also a very intriguing one. I learned that really, people today are so innovative, that really possibilities of new products and the latest money-maker products, are completely endless. We are never going to be able to stop inventing, improving, and driving the marketplace because we are constantly wanting more and faster products, and we are always going to find ways to “make” that happen. Listened to theinvestorspodcast.com Podcasts (1.39 Hours) -In the podcast “tip112—Billionaire Paul Allen—Idea Man”, I learned about what it really takes to build a multi-billion-dollar company. I never knew that Bill Gates only was going to take a leave from Harvard, not completely drop out at first. I definitely was inspired by the dedication that Bill Gates gave, to be able to drop out of Harvard, and still be able to become a

Page 24: Tanner Doezie B100 Full Portfolio

billionaire, and this was not because of his own doing. Bill Gates also utilized his other colleagues to gain his wealth. You really need to acquire a good skill set. -In the Podcast “Tip108: Outsiders- 8 CEO’s with Huge Returns”, I learned that you need to sell bonds and stocks at the right time, in order to become a successful Stock Trader. Thorndike used Debt to generate revenue. If we want large margins, we cannot compete in price. They said, that if you are at the top of the stock market, you are teetering in a very dangerous area, at the top of the credit market. This is dangerous, and they suggest putting money in many different places, such as gold, currency, stocks and assets, because of how much less risk there is in those options. I worked for 2.5 hours overall on figuring out different options to complete my grad plan, of course my plan is going to change, but now I have a much better idea of what my final plan is going to look like when I graduate from BYU-Idaho. I also spent about 45 minutes making my LinkedIn profile looking as good as I could, and was able to get my profile status to All-Star Level. I definitely learned how important it is to have such a good-looking portfolio, to be seen by many different business professionals, that might be looking to recruit. This will also allow for me to learn more about myself, because I am trying to promote my skills and traits that can set me apart from the rest of the business world. 9.39/10 hours After Turning this in, I am planning on continuing my study and listening to podcasts about investing.
