The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra is excited to announce its 2014 Young People's Discovery Concert

Series theme - Blue Dog! In partnership with the Rodrigue Foundation and Louisiana A+ Schools, this

year's concerts will take students on a journey through art and music, celebrating the late Louisiana

artist George Rodrigue.

For a second year, Discovery Jr. will be offered to students grades K-2 with a program titled "Blue Dog's

Musical Quest" to introduce young children to the instruments of the orchestra.

Students grades 3 and above are invited to attend "Blue Dog's Musical Adventure" where they will

engage in listening to the musical characteristics of the repertoire being performed.

The concert itself covers five national standards for music education-

1. Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music. 6. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music. 7. Evaluating music and music performances. 8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts. 9. Understanding music in relation to history and culture.

Furthermore, registered schools will be provided with multi-curricular lesson plans to prepare their students for attending the concert. These lessons help teachers fulfill local and state education standards/benchmarks not only in art, but in science, social studies, and more.

I encourage you to offer the students in your parish this live symphony orchestra experience, enriching their impressionable ears and minds. I am happy to provide an email blast version of the enclosed flier so that you can easily share this opportunity with your administrators and teachers.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions about the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra's educational programming. We cannot wait for your students to join Blue Dog at the symphony this fall!

0" V\0\ Blue Dog has escaped from his painting because he heard the sound of the orchestra and tried to find the musicians! Maybe if the orchestra keeps playing, he will find his way home.

Upon submitting registration, teachers will receive lesson plans to help prepare students for the concert. Schools are responsible for transporting students to Christian Life Academy.
