Abstract The difference, relation and use of Aroclor mixtures and standard monomers applied in the deter-mination of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were described. The detection methods for PCBs were also re-viewed including gas chromatography (GC), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), biological analysisand immunoassay in terms of their merits and limitations. Meanwhile, some suggestions on the determination ofPCBs in future were proposed.
