Duve, Thierry (1993), When Form Has Become Attitude - And Beyond. Ambos en EDUCATION. Documents on Contemporary Art, Londres y Cambridge, Massachusets: Whitechapel y The MIT Press.
Standards and GuidelinesMFA STANDARDSAdopted by the CAA Board of Directors on April 16, 1977; revised on October 12, 1991, and October 26, 2008.
Definition and PurposeThe Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in studio art and design is the recognized terminal degree in the visual arts. It is considered by the College Art Association (CAA), the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), and the vast majority of institutions in higher education in the United States to be equivalent to terminal degrees in other fields, such as the PhD or EdD. Observations about terminal degree programs in visual arts and design are detailed in the following document:
Statement on Terminal Degrees in the Visual Arts and Design (CAA, January 2015)
The MFA degree demands the highest level of professional competency in the visual arts and contemporary practices. To earn the MFA, a practicing artist must exhibit the highest level of accomplishment through the generation of a body of work. The work needs to demonstrate the ability to conceptualize and communicate effectively by employing visual language to interpret ideas. In addition, the MFA recipient must give evidence of applying critical skills that pertain to meaning and content, ultimately encouraging a comprehensive examination and critique of the function and role of art from a variety of views and contexts.
Regardless of the chosen area of concentration, an MFA candidate must be able to prove not only strong conceptual development, but also the skillful execution of tools, materials, and craft. This includes programs rooted in innovative uses of technology, collaborative work, or interdisciplinary projects.
CAA supports each program’s determination of specific criteria for achievement. Such an evaluation cannot be formulaic or prescriptive, since art and design support complex relationships and reside within the landscape of continually evolving practices.

SAIC's highly acclaimed Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Studio is a 60-credit program that supports creative work, inquiry, and investigation across 14 different departments as part of the advanced preparation of fine arts practitioners. Students entering into either our residential or Low-Residency MFA have the distinct advantage of gaining in-depth knowledge and competence in a single field of specialization or acquiring advanced competencies across multiple fields of study. We encourage our MFA Studio students to move beyond their home departments and work with faculty and peers in any area that supports their graduate work and research. Graduate studios for MFA students are spread across campus in clusters that allow for robust interdisciplinary exchange.Graduate-level courses and topical seminars support individual studio work by exposing students to the larger dialogues around the production, exhibition, and function of art as well as its expanded cultural production and reception. Students design a personalized curriculum by choosing from a wide variety of seminars, courses, and graduate advisors linked to numerous studio, design, and academic departments. Graduate critiques, central to the MFA experience, alternate between discipline-specific panels in the fall semester and interdisciplinary panels in the spring semester. The purpose of the graduate studio program is to prepare students to enter into their chosen fields of practice or to pursue their unique professional pathways as independent artists or cultural practitioners. It is a rigorous and demanding degree in ways that often exceed the boundaries of the studio. As important as demonstrating perfection of technical skills, articulate communication, and conceptual acuity is a student's ability to demonstrate insight, independence, and a generosity of spirit. Each of the studio departments at SAIC has a distinct, but porous, culture. Our extraordinary faculty and facilities are at the core of the MFA Studio program, but the exceptionally talented student body drawn from national and international contexts is what makes graduate study at SAIC unparalleled.

Students must bring creative force and imagination to their own development, for these qualities cannot be taught—they can only be stimulated and appreciated. (http://art.yale.edu/Program)
Together, the faculty and students form a community of established and emerging artists from many backgrounds who work across disciplines and modes of practice. Our main goals are to provide a stimulating and supportive environment in which students can thrive and develop as artists, to foster rigorous critical engagement with contemporary art and other cultural forms, and to produce an ongoing conversation, through work as much as through words, about what we make, how we make it and why. Se necesita dinero...
08.10.2013 a 06.11.2013

Artist Statement
Artist Statement Money is an abstraction, a digitized system, which like language allows us to structure theworld and map it out into an autonomouswhole. It allows us to compare and equatethings yet only within the system. Theirrelative value is always deferred to thesystem itself. Currency is the regional representation ofmoney, acting both as its materiality andabstract quantification, from which it can beconverted and equated to any currency. It isembedded in a global order whichtranscends its local specificity andsymbolism. Value is assigned to a piece ofpaper yet it is in constant motion. It isdependent on the changing market andeconomic structure. This value is neverintrinsic, nor is it exclusive to one nation orgeographic zone. The euro is a unique form of currency whichis transnational in itself. While it is a site forunity, it is also a site for exclusion, afragmented utopia. Within it, nationalsymbols are surrendered to the fictionalrepresentations of the bridging of nationsacross a continent. The bridges whichappear in the euro bank notes are genericarchitectural syntheses of different historicalstyles in Europe. At the level ofrepresentation their symbolic unity is a farce. Geographies of Power (2011) is a printmedia project in which I reconfigure thefictional representations of bridges in eurobills. I disassemble these structures block byblock and recombine them to form otherfictional structures. These new imaginarybridges do not need to be functional. They donot need to pretend to cover gaps or connectanything. They do not need to be a synthesis
of historical styles because they areahistorical. In fact, they can be impossible tobuild because they have never existed andnever will.

Divisions between categories,
between concepts, between
territories are unstable. I
explore those places where
boundaries blur and look into the
way symbols can be transferred
from one space to another,
converted and abstracted,only to
be created anew. I generate new
associations from displaced
elements,exploring relations
which transcend their initial context, into larger systems.
Money, Currency and the Unification of Value Across the Globe
Money is an abstraction, a digitized system, which like language allows us to structure
the world and map it out into an autonomous whole. It allows us to compare and equate
things yet only within the system. Their relative value is always deferred to the
system itself. Currency is the regional representation of money, acting both as its
materiality and abstract quantification, from which it can be converted and equated to
any currency. It is embedded in a global order which transcends its local specificity
and symbolism. Value is assigned to a piece of paper yet it is in constant motion. It
is dependent on the changing market and economic structures. This value is never
intrinsic, nor is it exclusive to one nation or geographic zone. Representations within
currencies stand as symbols within specific cultural contexts. These symbolic
representations disappear as they are converted from one currency to another. Capital
moves across nations fluidly where it can, always willing to change its face, to
convert itself.
Currency into Art Object
Despite its carefully thought out design, currency is treated exclusively for its
utilitarian value. As a piece of paper it is exactly the same as toilet paper, in the
sense that it is exclusively used for what its meant to do. Currency is meant to
circulate, to be reused and recycled as many times as possible. Even though everyone
touches it, it belongs to no one. Money is owned by people as an abstraction, its
material form is only borrowed from the state. In the United States defacing currency
to the point that it is put out of circulation is a federal offense. The system acts as
currency’s pimp, protecting it while lending it to all. In Geographies of Power, money
which is dirty and promiscuous by nature, passed around from hand to hand, becomes a
fine art object. The representations
