TALK UP TAIHAPE Taihape Community Development Trust AUGUST 2019
Talk about a celebration!
In a few short weeks we will be celebrating all things
Taihape with a host of events to exceed expectations –
are you ready?
From Friday 13 to Sunday 15 September Taihape
celebrates 125 years of being a town. From bubbles,
banter and book signings, baby animals, outback market
stalls, vintage high tea, and live bands, to church
services, golf and tree plantings there is something for
everyone to enjoy.
“We invite Taihape residents, their families and friends to
come along,” says 125th Taihape Celebrations Convenor
Gill Duncan. “It is going to be a great event for all.”
Local businesses are right behind the celebrations with
sponsorship, donations of gifts for raffles and displaying
event posters in their windows.
There’s still room for more people to get involved, either
coming to an event or if they are away, perhaps a
sponsorship towards one of our events.
Find out more ways about getting
involved inside your August issue
of Talk Up Taihape.

Chronic inflammation
Diseases have reached
epidemic levels in many
countries; they can occur
throughout the body and
affect all body systems, such as
asthma and allergies,
obesity, high blood pressure and
type 2 diabetes, cancer, arthritis,
multiple sclerosis,
Alzheimer’s disease,
Parkinson’s disease, coeliac
disease, ulcerative colitis, or
cancer.
The good news is that by
resolving the inflammation that
underlies these
conditions, you may
experience reduction in
symptoms or reduce the risk of
these conditions occurring.
Inflammation is a protection
mechanism; the body’s
natural and healthy response to
injury or threat. When the body is
exposed to an injury, microbe or
tissue damage, these stimuli will
call the inflammatory ‘troops’ to
the area to help address the is-
sue. Inflammation will prevent fur-
ther injury by causing:
* Swelling
* Pain
* Redness
In small amounts and for a short
term period, inflammation is a
beneficial process that prevents
further injury and induces the
healing process. However, when
this process fails to resolve, the
ongoing presence of pain,
redness and swelling creates new
problems; the development of
chronic inflammatory disease.
Live an anti-inflammatory
lifestyle
*Anti-inflammatory diet: oily fish,
olive oil, avocado, ginger wal-
nuts, turmeric, cinnamon, dark
leafy green vegetables, blueber-
ries, broccoli, grapes, cauliflower,
beetroot and carrot.
*Incorporate gentle movement:
Try low impact activities
*Stay hydrated:
*Sleep soundly: Your body does
its best repair when you sleep.

A little bit of History...
On the 15th of September 1894 the first families arrived and
established themselves in what was to become Hautapu Street.
Not all of the original settlers remained in Taihape, however
one year after settlement, the first settlers celebrated the
anniversary of their arrival and a tradition was born. Over the
years, Taihape grew steadily and a major influence on the
town was the Main Trunk Line. The government had long
planned for it to come through Taihape. As the rail line
advanced northward from Wellington, many of the towns
ahead of it boomed
and died as fortunes
fluctuated over the
years. Yet Taihape
survived to become
the town we all enjoy
today.
Taihape looks a lot different now...
