Oxford Roundtable Agreement 2005:

• a minimum package for WASH in schools: water separate toilet for girls and boys handwashing with soap hygiene education policy development and institutional arrangements

• Critical to achieve MDG’s 2, MDG 3, and MDG 7

• Focus on scaling up while retaining quality

• Challenge: to meet institutional and capacity requirements

Excellent Initiatives• See examples today

• UNICEF support increased: from 50 to 86 countries UNICEF Global WASH strategy 2006 - 2012: separate target for WASH in schools Work with WHO on Minimum standards

• Global Handwashing Day focused on school children: almost 200 million children reached

• New learning from the SSHE study and the scaling up with quality project: great insights as to what works and indeed doesn’t work

• Work with WHO on minimum standards with peer review worldwide

But implementation varies according to country/region!
