PrefaceI. The Taiwan Statistical Data Book is designed to give domestic and foreign

readers concise statistical information on present-day Taiwan, Republic of

China. The statistics cover demographic, economic, social, cultural and physi-

cal aspects. This book is produced only in English.

II. To fully reflect the state of national well-being in Taiwan, with reference to

the OECD’s Your Better Life Index, The National Well-being Indicators

were announced in August 2013 for the first time. It is hoped that, with the

addition of The National Well-being Indicators chapter from 2014, this hand-

book will allow the public to acquire a full understanding of Taiwan’s current

    social development situation.

III. This book is also available in e-format on our website at http://www.ndc.gov.tw.
