Reason Picking Taiwan The reason I pick Taiwan as my country is

because of that it can tell how the population have grow over the couple decades by technology. Also that I pick this country is because of that it can show how the population have increased and decrease by how that they known Taiwan as one of Four Asians Tigers. It can show how the population will increase and decrease on the economics status of Taiwan have over the years that it have went by.

Page 5: Taiwan Population/Migration Case Study

1950 The reason that I have pick the year 1950

is because of the Chinese Civil War have ended the year before and it can show how many Chinese have migrated to Taiwan because of the new government that have took over China from the Nationalists to Communists. It have also can show on how the population in Taiwan have increased and decreased in one short year after the Chinese Civil War have happened.

Some Background Information

Taiwan China

Taiwan is run by the Nationalists.

Nationalists flee China after Chinese Civil war ended to Taiwan.

In 1950 the population of Taiwan was about 7,981 (in thousands) about 8 million people.

China is run by the Communists after taking over the Nationalists.

The population of China in 1950 is about 562,580 (in thousands) in the mid year of 1950

Generals Information of Population in Taiwan (1950) The starting population

is about 8 million people on the island of Taiwan in 1950.

Taiwan and Chinese government is most of the time have a lot of tension because of the Chinese Civil War even today but the tension is not as strong as before.

Demographic Transition

Page 9: Taiwan Population/Migration Case Study

Demographic Transition The demographic transition of Taiwan in 1950

have been on that it is in stage it is in stage 2 and are going toward to stage 3 because of that Taiwan is being coming more urban than rural. It have also been on that Taiwan is in demographic transition of 2 in 1950 is because of that technology in Taiwan during that time. It is moving on to demographic transition 3 in an couple decades later because of the economy of Taiwan have in Asia as on of the Asians Tigers in economic status in Asia.

Population Pyramids The way that the population pyramids of Taiwan have

showed the sexes of females and males in population have been on that the population of females is so what not that as great compare to the male population. It have also been on that the population pyramid have showed on how that most of the Taiwan population is being dominated by people that are very young for now not until they move up in the population pyramid category for ages for both males and females. It have also been that another way that population pyramid can showed problems in population how there will be less females for the male population in Taiwan.

Ethnics Groups In Population The majority of Taiwan is made up

of Chinese is because of the government that is running it and immigration of Chinese to Taiwan after the Chinese Civil War that have ended.

Hakka, Mainlanders, and Hoklo are the sub groups of ethnic to China.

Most of the Taiwan indigenous people live in the mountain and rural areas instead of the urban areas but the population is decreasing over the time because more of the indigenous people are dying out or marry other ethnic group that made their population smaller than the other ethnic in Taiwan.

65 and above 2.5

Females population in Taiwan in 1950 is greater than the males population because of that most of the males have dead in the Chinese Civil War or is very old.

It have also been this is also the time when the population is starting being increased after an war have ended.

Page 16: Taiwan Population/Migration Case Study

Connections of Age, Sex, and Ethnics to Population in 1950 The way that the connection in age, sex, and ethnics play a

role in population in 1950. Have been on that the connection that is used during the time in 1950 have been on that it is the during point of Taiwan on which the island from 1950 and onwards the ethnic group in Taiwan will mostly and majority have the population will be Chinese and the age group will be very young from age like 20-60 because of that Taiwan will shortly in time will move from the stage 2 of demographic transition to stage 3 and being a little more of an developing country. Another way that sex have a role in Taiwan population have been on that there is going be more males than females because the Chinese migrates will bring with them of the tradition thinking of males to carry on the family name to Taiwan.

Page 17: Taiwan Population/Migration Case Study

Migration Patterns The migration patterns in Taiwan in 1950

have been on that it very at first because more people are moving to Taiwan because of that they don’t won’t the new government in China ruling them and also are showing how that they are loyal to the Nationalists party.

Page 18: Taiwan Population/Migration Case Study

Types of Diffusion of Taiwan The types of diffusion that Taiwan have in the year 1949

is relocation and hierarchical diffusion happening. The way on how that relocation diffusion have happen in Taiwan have been on people in China that moved to Taiwan was of that the Cultural Revolution happening that brought a dark age to China and they see only that Taiwan is maybe another hope to have peace and not being the victims of the Communists rule for that time period. It have also been on that Taiwan have relocation diffusion have been on that because Taiwan have an higher standard of living and incomes that made more people in China want to move to Taiwan because of the income that they can be making and living like.

Page 19: Taiwan Population/Migration Case Study

Types of Diffusion (Con’t) Another way that diffusion have happened in Taiwan is by

hierarchical diffusion. The way that this diffusion have work in Taiwan is that people that are in China that time saw the Nationalist have flee so that have also left the country because they are loyal to Nationalists and don’t want the communists being in control of them at all.

The current migration patterns in Taiwan now have been on that there are this people that migrated to other places like to the United States. The way that they migrated is because of that they want higher living standards like the people that are mostly likely to migrated to another country is like very poor class of Taiwan on which they want to move to another country hoped on that they will have a better chance on which they can increased there population.

Page 21: Taiwan Population/Migration Case Study

Current Population Trends The current population trends that are happening in Taiwan as now compare to

1950 have been on that it doesn’t have much change because there are being less people that are migrating out of Taiwan now compare to 1950. The way that the migration population in 1950 in Taiwan is higher is because of that more people are moving to Taiwan because of the new government being established in Taiwan.

Another way that diffusion have happened in Taiwan is by hierarchical diffusion. The way that this diffusion have work in Taiwan is that people that are in China that time saw the Nationalist have flee so that have also left the country because they are loyal to Nationalists and don’t want the communists being in control of them at all.

Structural Population of Taiwan The way that the structure of population in

Taiwan throughout the years in Taiwan from 1950 to present have been on that the population at first was increasing until 1960 where the population started to decrease because of that Taiwan after 1960 is starting to be industrial and more people during that time made the population start to decrease and not increasing that much and was going to demographic transition 2 to 3 because of Taiwan is starting to decrease in the population size.

Page 24: Taiwan Population/Migration Case Study

Population Facts○ 1950

The crude birth rate is 43 per 1000.

The crude death rate 11 of 1000.

Total population in Taiwan in 1950 is around 8 million and by 1990 is around 20.4 million.

These are the crude birth and death rates in Taiwan in 1950.

The crude birth and death after the years of 1950 is deceasing and not as high was it in 1950 because of that the living standard in Taiwan have increase the quality and also on that the family in Taiwan are having less kids per family and marrying later.

Page 25: Taiwan Population/Migration Case Study

Area of Population in Taiwan The areas of population in Taiwan is mostly

cluster around the north and south of Taiwan because those are the places in Taiwan where it is mostly urban area and the population isn’t as great as in the east and west of Taiwan because those are the areas by the coast in Taiwan and it is not an major urban cities and it is the location of many different factories of production in Taiwan like textiles, clothing and other manufacturing goods company around the area.

Page 26: Taiwan Population/Migration Case Study

Increase and Decrease in Population Taiwan have population that increases around the

years of 1950 and 1960 is because of that Taiwan at that point doesn’t have much population and the living standard during that time isn’t very high during that time. After the year 1960 and to the present the population is decreasing because Taiwan is improving in health care, living standards, higher incomes, better education that made the population decrease because the people in Taiwan in that time are becoming an developing country that made families in Taiwan don’t want to have as many kids as before to 1 or 2 kids per family.

Page 27: Taiwan Population/Migration Case Study
Page 28: Taiwan Population/Migration Case Study

Economics of Taiwan The way that population in Taiwan is influence by

the economic of Taiwan have been on that as the economic status in Taiwan is increasing better it made Taiwan population to decrease because more people in Taiwan are focusing on their careers than having kids. It have also been on that another that cause the population in Taiwan to decrease is because as the Taiwan economics change so does the way that people are thinking about having families because the country are becoming an industrial and developing country.
