Kids, the much-awaited holidays are here yet again and it’s time to play and have fun!! We have

planned for you some fun activities to make the optimum use of your energy and give a vent to your

creativity so that you continue learning during the holiday break as well.

Parents are requested to encourage their ward to do the assignment independently.

They can support the child if he/she needs help.

Creativity and originality of the work will be appreciated.

Imagine that you have received a proposal to establish a shopping mall in your neighbourhood. All the legal formalities have been taken care of by your nears and dears Your task is to create an exciting and unique design of a single floored shopping mall. Given below is a series of activities that you propose to carry out in order to help you design a shopping

mall. You have your family & friends to help you out. Let the Journey Begin……..

Given below is a 5 step guide for you to follow to help you make your dream come true. Each step is supported with an image to give you an idea!

A Spy round the corner![Step 1]

Plan a day’s visit to a happening shopping mall. Prepare a checklist of the interesting aspects of the place, such as number of food joints, branded shops, gaming arenas it hasthat were of interest to you. From the checklist, now pick those that you would like to include in your mall.

When you visit the mall of your choice, talk to the store managers, food vendors etc. and note down

their responses with regards to the number of walk-ins they have in a day, the main attractions that increases the daily customer intake, any special offers they take out for festivals and celebrations.

Be an Architect! [Step 2] Draw an inside map (plan or layout) of your

shopping mall giving all the details. Place the

names of stores, brands, ice-cream parlours, toy

zone, types of shops etc…you would be including

in your set up. Also draw a legend using different

colours, signs and symbols. Carefully study the

example given and then draw your own map

including following details:

a) showrooms (each of them must have a

perimeter of 40 meters)

b) cafeteria (40 m x 30 m each)

c) restrooms (cut into halves so that you can have a girl’s side and a boy’s side)

Budgeting Skills! [ Step 4-]

Budgeting and Estimation

Prepare a budget (for eg. 5 million or 50 lakh) to open various showrooms (at least 10) of your favourite brands in the mall. Estimate the cost of opening one showroom, considering following expenses on it:-

a) infrastructure cost b) labour cost c) furnishing cost d) electricity cost e) water supply etc.

Calculate the amount for opening ten such showrooms. Check whether it is exceeding the budget you started with or not. If yes, then cut down the unnecessary expenses on each showroom and show your final estimate of the amount of opening 10 showrooms.

The Final Countdown! [Step 5]

Your dream is ready to be opened to public. Give a catchy name to your imaginary set up of a shopping mall. Design a logo with an attractive tagline…… The best way to advertise……. Place your catalogue and all your research material, lay outs etc in a handmade bag. Give nice looking captions on your bag….

Design a pre- paid membership card that would be issued at the counter to

the entrants of the mall which would be further used to make all the payments at the stores

HERE’S A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR PARENTS TO DO

This assignment attempts to shift responsibility of teaching the right values to kids as they learn by example. In other words – “Values are caught not taught!” Some interesting things to do with your kids…..

Have meals together as a family and involve them to lay the table.

Allow kids to help in cooking without fire. Have them prepare some exciting shakes and sandwiches for the family.

Pay a visit to your neighbours and grandparents

Spare some time to visit any community outreach in the city(old age home, orphanage, blind school etc) and contribute in whichever way you can.
