Instructions • Your responsibility as an applicant is to provide sufficient evidence to TAFE Digital

Engineering Services that you are currently engaged in sufficient and appropriate full-time

work in the Electrotechnology industry.

• You are required to provide to TAFE Digital Engineering Services a statutory declaration

(included in this application) completed by your current employer with details of the

supervisor/s engaged in your training along with their contact details and electrical license

number/s.

• Your employer is responsible for providing you with what is known as ‘on the job’ training

in every unit of competency. If not, they will need to be able to provide an alternative and

explain to TAFE Digital Engineering Services how this will occur. This training should provide

you will ALL of the workplace evidence that you will need to record and collect throughout

the duration of your course. If a secondary employer is needed to get all the training their

details will need to be added in the areas provided.

• To obtain your Certificate of Proficiency, the total of all work experience must not be less

than the apprenticeship contract time. For non-apprentices, the work experience time is to

be not less than 4 years. Within this period of time, you will be expected to complete your

TAFE studies (normally this is completed in 3 years).

• Enclosed in this application are details of the workplace evidence required and specific

tasks that will be required for your employer to sign off on.

• All applications are assessed on merit.

• Please complete:

o 1. Applicant Details section

o 2. Employer Details section

o 3. Supervisor Details section

o 4. Table of workplace training

o 5. Statement of Training Declarations

TAFE NSW – TAFE Digital UEE30811 Certificate III Application Form Created: 16/02/2018, Modified: 16/02/2018 Version: 3.0 Page 3 of 17

• All parties should complete their details clearly and sign in the appropriate places. This

application form should be returned in ONE document plus scanned signatures by email to:

[email protected]

• Evidence of competency as required in units (of competency) that has been achieved

through on-the-job training must be collected and recorded.

o COLLECTED: hard or soft copy – evidence must include a variety of different types

and may include but not be limited to photos, third-party reports, supervisor

reports, work records, etc. Competency must be clearly demonstrable. The ability

to judge the accuracy and honesty of evidence relies on a well-organised variety of

evidence.

o RECORDED: you must use an electronic system such as SkillsTracker or eProfiling to

record and track workplace evidence. A student submits a work record and their

supervisor confirms the legitimacy of the record and competency achieved

pertaining to the task. Any costs are borne by the student or their employer.

o The onus is on the employer representative to arrange and provide all necessary

workplace training.

o The onus is on each electrical supervisor to train to a competent level, supervise the

student in all necessary tasks, and report and approve training records.

o The onus is on the student to collect and record evidence of their competency

achieved through workplace training.

• If you have any questions, please direct them to TAFE Digital engineering

[email protected] or 02 9715 8469.

General Information

The skills and knowledge required by a competent worker are described in terms of Competency Standard Units. For the electrical industry, these units are laid down in the National Electrotechnology Competency Standards.

To be assessed as ‘competent’ against National Electrotechnology Competency Standards, individuals need to demonstrate they have –

acquired specified essential knowledge and associated skills (EKAS)and

undertaken related workplace functions

The assessment of specified essential knowledge and associated skills is carried out during the off-the-job component of an individuals’ training, normally through the assessment of Essential Knowledge and Associated Skills Learning Specifications whilst undertaking the qualification at a College/Skill Centre.

Work experience records provide evidence that the applicant has, over a period of time, carried out relevant workplace activities (e.g. install …) including each element (plan, carry out, complete) across the range of equipment or procedures autonomously and to specified requirements, and on multiple occasions. That is, these records can be used to make judgments about the applicant’s on-the-job performance.

The purpose of this document is to provide a mechanism the employer can use to ensure that the apprentice/applicant has exposure to all of the experience required by the training package to be deemed competent.

This document will be attached to the apprentice/applicants’ training contract and the students’ progress will be monitored by the RTO on a six monthly basis.

• The employer should arrange for the student to have adequate study time to

enable them to complete their studies.

• The student must attend all skills assessment sessions required. These are

currently held quarterly at Mt Druitt College, Sydney.
