WELCOME Welcome to the Table Tennis event at the Sainsbury’s 2012 School Games. In this, its inaugural year, the Table Tennis event is being held at ExCeL an Olympic venue, alongside 6 other sports. 1600 athletes and 700 coaches, officials and volunteers will be giving over 22,000 hours of their time to support the events. The boys, girls and disability team events will take place over the first two days, followed by a marvellous opportunity to visit the Olympic Park to see the Athletic and Cycling events alongside 30,000 spectators. This booklet is designed to supplement the Official School Games glossy programme, to highlight table tennis specific items we would like to draw your attention to, and allow you to record team results. We share the competition site with Badminton, Fencing, Gymnastics, Judo, Volleyball and Wheelchair Basket Ball and recommend you take the opportunity to visit when not competing, please discuss the best time to do this with your team manager. I would like to thank the team managers, team staff, referees, officials, welfare officers, umpires and volunteers listed below, who put in a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes, many for months before the event, and who help make the competition run as smoothly as possible. I hope you all perform to your personal best, and have a great 3 days in this unique year of 2012.

Quick Guide to Welfare This information is designed to support the Safeguarding Plan for London 2012 which is available on the School Games website www.2012schoolgames.com. The primary aim of the plan is to minimise the risks to children and young people and to maximise their enjoyment at this unique event. This year we have twelve sports participating: athletics, badminton, fencing, gymnastics, hockey, judo, road cycling, rugby sevens, swimming, table tennis, volleyball and wheelchair basketball, plus disability events in a number of sports. Everybody involved in the UK School Games has signed a Code of Conduct which identifies our expectations of behaviour throughout the event. Each sport has a dedicated Welfare Co-ordinator and a Welfare Officer, whose role is to support the welfare athletes and young people involved in the event. The welfare team is managed by the Welfare Manager, Helen Murdock from the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU). Table Tennis contacts

Use of the Initial Issue/Concern Reporting Form

What should be reported?

The welfare of the child is paramount throughout the School Games. In order to achieve this principle you are asked to complete an “Initial Issue/Concern Reporting Form”, available from any member of the welfare team, for any issues/concerns, accidents or incidents no matter how trivial they might appear. This may be about any child or adult involved or spectating at the School Games and could include:

o General concerns about a child’s welfare o Concern related to a welfare incident e.g. bullying or poor practice o Suspicions or allegations of misconduct o Breaches of the School Games Code of Conduct o Abuse made by or against any young person or adult at the School

Games o An injury

Please complete the form and pass to any member of the welfare team. If you would like further details of what should be reported please refer to the Safeguarding Plan 2012 Section 9 - Reporting. To discuss a specific concern or issue please contact either Judy, Jill or Jennie or the Welfare Manager for the School Games.
