Itsuse isalsopermitted insomenonEUcountrieslikeCroatia,Switzerland,NorwayandIceland.Theoperatingfrequenciesallowclearcommunicationsfreefromatmosphericinterferenceuptoadistanceof4/5km(underoptimalconditions:inopenairandwithoutanyobstacles).Youcantakeyour445BTeverywhereandeasily“wear”itthankstoitsincludedbeltclip.Itworkswith4AAtypealkalinebatteries(or4Ni-CD/NiMHrechargeablebatteries)anditcanstoreupto20channelsthatcanbequicklyscanned(SCANfunction).To protect every channel from interference from other users, the445 BT also has 38 CTCSS tones that guarantee impeccablecommunicationsevenoverbackgroundnoiseamdinterference.445 BT is also equipped with a Bluetooth module andchronometer.

2.2Warnings2.2.a General

Before using the transceiver, carefully read all theinstructionscontainedinthismanualintheorderinwhichthey are written. Cross-references to paragraphs andchapters are provided for ease of use only. After reading,keepthismanualforfuturereference.Readandfollowallthewarningandinstructionlabelsfoundontheradioanditsaccessories.Alwaysobserve lawsandregulations regarding theuseoftransceivers, which may change according to the countryyouarein.Whereprohibited,orinareaswheretheradiomaycauseinterferenceordanger,turnoffyourradio.Keep a tight grip on your radio (a fall may damage it) andensurethePTTbuttonisnotpressedaccidentallywhenyou

donotneedtotransmit.Donotholdthetransceiverbytheantenna!Thisisadelicatepartofthedeviceandisvitalfortheproperfunctioningoftheradio.Payattentiontoenvironmentalconditions-although445BTis designed to operate under the most severe conditions,it is important toavoidexposure toenvironments thatareexcessivelyhumidordusty,ortotemperaturesoutsidethe-�5°to+55°C°range.Alsoavoidexposuretodirectsunlight,jarring,andexcessivevibration.Beforeusingtheradio,ensurethatallprotectivecoversareinperfectoperatingcondition,inordertoensuremaximumprotectionagainsthumidityandatmosphericagents.Althoughthisradiowasdesignedtobewaterresistant,avoidgettingitwetasmuchaspossibleanddonotletanyliquidsfallon it. 2.2.b BatteriesBeforeusingthebatterycharger,carefullyreadallnotesandcautionsregardingthisequipment.Do not short-circuit the battery terminals: doing so mayresult in fire, burns, or explosions.Never throw batteries into a fire or expose them to high temperatures; doing so may cause fires or explosions. Always follow the regulations set out by your country ofresidence.Use only the original batteries and battery charger. featureisactivatedD) Keypadtones - indicates the activation of tones to confirm when

barsdisappearproportionatelyaspowerdecreases.When thebattery charge is no longer high enough to guarantee correctfunctioning of the transceiver, this icon will flash to signal that thebatteriesneedtoberecharged(orreplaced).

4PREPARATIONBeforeusingyourtransceiver,ensurethatyourpackagecontains:• Thetransceiver• Thebeltclip• Theuser’smanual(thismanual)Ifanypart ismissingordamaged,contactyoursupplierassoonaspossible.

Inorderforthedevicetofunction,youwillrequirefourAAbatteries,either1.2VNiMHrechargeableor1.5Vnon-rechargeablealkaline.Forfurtherdetails,refertopar4.2.

TochargetheNiMHbatterieswithouttakingthemoutoftheradio,astandardMW904wallchargerisavailable,aswellasaCA445intelligenttable-topcharger.Forfurtherdetails,refertopar.4.3

4.�Fastening/removingthebeltclipTherearbeltclipallowstheusertoeasilyclipthetransceivertoabelt.However,itmaybenecessarytoremovetheclipinordertofacilitatemaintenanceoftheradioorbatterychanges.Tofastenthecliptotheradio,positionitabovethegroovefoundofthebackofthetransceiver,thendrag it downwardsuntil it locks intoplace.To remove the clipfromthebelt, lift therelease leveranddragtheclipupwardsuntil itcomesfree.

Ensure the belt clip is attached correctly ; otherwise thetransceivermaybecomeunattachedaccidentallyandfall.

4.2Installing/removingthebatteriesThetransceiveroperateswithfourAAbatteries(notincluded).Therearetwobatteryoptionsavailable:

• Rechargeable1.2VNiMH-availableinvariouscapacities(inmA/h).Higherbatterycapacityallowsforgreaterduty,butrequireslongerrechargingtime.

• Non-rechargeable1.5Valkaline.Forinstalling/removingthebatteries,itisnotnecessarytoremovethebeltclip (procedureoutlined inpar.4.1),however, thisdoesmakeiteasiertoaccessthebatteries.Do not install a combination of rechargeable and alkalinebatteries inyour transceiver.Alwaysuse4AAbatteriesofthesametype,brand,andfromthesamestock.Alwaysusethesamebatteriesasasetinordertoensuretheirlevelofchargeisthesame.Ifyouarenotusingthetransceiverforanextendedperiod,removethebatteries.

4.2.a To install the batteries:1. Unhooktheclasp(A)downwardsasindicatedinpicture1.2. Carefully lift the rear protective

coverfromthebatterycompartmentandremoveit.

3. Insert the batteries (rechargeableor alkaline) in the batterycompartment, paying attention totheir polarity, as indicated on theinsideofthebatterycompartment.

4. Carefully insert thecover’s tabs into theslotsat the topof thebattery compartment, and then slowly press the cover downagainst the battery compartment until it is aligned with thetransceiverbody.

5. Carefullyreturntheclasp(A)ontotheprotectivecover,pressinguntilitclicksintoplace.

4.2.b To remove the batteries:1. Followsteps1and2asoutlinedabove.2. Removethebatteriesfromtheradio.3. Followsteps4and5asoutlinedabove.

4.3Rechargingthebatteries3typesofbatterychargersareavailable.Theyallowyoutochargethe NiMH batteries without removing them from the radio. Thereare:• MW904:Standardwallbatterycharger-thisistheleastexpensive.

Itsuppliesaslowcharge,allowingformaximumbatterylife.Forfurtherdetails,refertopar.4.3.a.

• CA445intelligenttable-toprapidcharger-forrapidchargingandgreater flexibility of use. It also monitors the charge, and once batteries are charged, switches to trickle charging. For furtherdetails,refertopar.4.3.b.

• �2Vchargecabletoconnecttoyourcarormotorbike. Newbatteriesdonotimmediatelyworkatmaximumcapacity,astheymustbe“runin”throughatleast3completecyclesofcharge/discharge.Use the battery charger only if you have installed fourrechargeableNiMHbatteries.Neverattempttochargeothertypesofbatteries(particularlyalkaline)-doingsomaycauseexplosionsorinjury.

4.3.a MW904 wall battery charger and 12V charger1. Ensuretheradioisturnedoff(itshouldbetterremainoffforthe

entire period of charging, otherwise the charging time will belonger-onlytricklechargingmaybepossible).

2. Lift the rubber flap on the right side of the transceiver.3. InserttheplugattheendoftheMW904batterychargercableinto

theCHGsocket,thenconnectthebatterychargertoanACpowersource.

4. Once the batteries are charged (see table below for chargingtimes),disconnectthebatterychargerfromtheACpowersource,thendisconnectthetransceiverfromthebatterycharger.

Tochargethe445BTusingthe12Vchargecable,justinsertitssmallplug into the CHG socket of the radio and the other plug into thecigarettelighterplugofyourcarormotorbike.

Do not overcharge the batteries! When the batteries arecompletely charged, the charging process does not stopautomatically. Do not forget to disconnect the transceiverfromthebatterychargerassoonaspossibleafterchargingis complete, otherwise you may seriously damage thebatteriesand/orthetransceiver.Forsuccessivecharging,longerduty,andbatterylife,refertopar.4.4.

4.3.b CA445 Intelligent, table-top battery chargerThis battery charger rapidly charge batteries and detects whenchargingiscomplete.Atthispointitautomaticallyswitchestotricklecharge.1. Insert the transceiver, with the charging contacts facing

downwards,intotheCA445batterychargerslot,thenconnectthebatterychargertoanACpowersource.Chargingwillbegin,andanLEDindicatorwilllightup.

2. Oncechargingiscomplete,agreenLEDlightwillappearonthebattery charger, indicating the operation is complete and thedevicehasswitchedthetricklecharge.

3. Whenpossibleandforincreasedsecurity,removethetransceiverfromthechargingslotanddisconnectthebatterychargerfromtheACpowersource.Forsuccessivecharging,longerduty,andbatterylife,refertopar.4.4.

4.4ProperuseofrechargeablebatteriesWhenpossible,rechargebatteriesonlywhenatleasttwooftheiconbarshavedisappeared(theiconshouldindicate ).Beawarethatchargingtimewillbeshorterinproportiontotheamountofresidualchargeremaininginthebattery,therefore,whenonlytwobarsappearintheicon,thisindicatesyouwillrequireabout50%oftimeindicatedon the table in par. 4.3.a. This is particularly important if you usetheMW904standardcharger,otherwiseyou riskovercharging thebatteries.Ifyouusethebatteriesproperly,youwillobtainatleast400cyclesofcharge/dischargeatmaximumduty.Itisnormalforbatterydutytograduallydecreaseabout2/3ofthewayintoabattery’slife.

Rechargeablebatterypackslosetheirchargeovertimeeveniftheyarenotused(auto-discharge);thisisnormal.ANiMH(NickelMetalHydrate)batterymaylose10-20%ofitsenergywithinafewdays.

4.4.a Memory effectRechargeable NiMH (Nickel-Metal-Hydrate) batteries are virtuallyunaffectedbythe“memoryeffect”.Thisphenomenonisassociatedwithadrastic reductionofbatteryautonomyand is triggered if thebatteriesare regularly chargedbeforehaving lost at least 50-75%of their power and/or are not completely recharged. To avoid thememoryeffect:• When possible, recharge the batteries only when they are

completely discharged; i.e. when the battery indicator isflashing.

• Donotdisconnectthebatterychargerbeforethetimeindicatedforcompletebatterycharging.

• Dischargeandrechargeyourbatteriescompletelyatleasttwiceamonth.

Inanycase,thebestsolutionforavoidingthememoryeffectistotwosetsofbatteriesinturn:oneinuse,andtheotherbeingchargedasspareset.Thememoryeffectcanbeeasilyeliminatedbycompletelycharging/dischargingthebatteries3or4times.

The memory effect should not be confused with the normalbatterylife,whichis(onaverage)400cyclesofcharge/discharge.Itiscompletelynormalforoperatingdutytodecreasewhenthebatterieshavereachedtheendoftheirlife;atthispoint,youwillneedtochangethebatteryset.

5STANDARDFUNCTIONS

5.�Turning445BTon/offTurntheON/OFF/VOLUMEknobclockwiseuntilitclickson:theLCDdisplaywillcomeon,andyouwillhearabeep(acousticsignal).

The LCD display backlight will automatically turn off after 10secondsinordertosaveenergy.Thedisplaywillremainactive.Toturnoffthetransceiver,turntheknobanti-clockwiseuntilyouhearanotherclick.

5.2VolumeregulationBringtheON/OFF/VOLUMEknobtomedium.Oncethetransceiverreceivesasignal,adjustthevolumetoacomfortablelevel.Ifnosignalisreceived,usethe buttonasdescribedinpar.5.5.PleasenotethatthevolumeinaBluetoothheadsetisindependendofthevolumesettingwiththevolumeknob.

5.3SelectingachannelPressthe or buttonsrespectivelytoscrollupordownthroughthechannels until you find the desired channel. To scroll quickly through thechannels,holddownthe or buttonuntilyoureachthedesiredchannel.

5.4Transmissionandreception During transmission and reception, ensure the antenna is asverticalaspossible.

5.4.a ReceptionWhenthePTTisnotpressed,theradioisinreceptionandisreadytoreceiveincomingcommunicationsonthecurrentlyselectedchannel

(stand-by).Ifyouarenotreceivingcommunicationsinstand-byandhavenotactivatedanycommandsforatleast10seconds,thedisplaywill flash PowerSaver,indicatingthatthepowersaverfunctionhasbeen automatically activated. When 445 BT receives a signal thefollowingwillhappen:• TheBUSYicon willappearonthedisplay,alongwiththe

icon, which indicates the strength of the incoming signal (thenumberofbarsbeingproportionaltothestrengthofthesignal).

• The device which silences the audio in the absence of signals(squelch) will automatically disable. If reception happens to bebroken,trytousethemonitorfunctionasdescribedinpar.5.5.

5.4.b Transmission1. Totransmit,holddownthePTT(16)button: willappearonthe

display,andthe iconwill indicateyourrelativetransmissionpower (the number of bars is proportional to your relativetransmissionpower).

2. Then,atadistanceofabout5cm,speakinanormalvoiceintothetransceiver’smicrophone(7).

3. Whenyouhavecompletedyourmessage,releasethePTTbutton:and willdisappearfromthedisplayandthetransceiverwill

returntoreceptionmode. Youcanonlycommunicatewithpeople thatare tunedonto thesamechannel.

If the BUSY icon appears on the display, but you don’t hearanything, you may have accidentally turned the volume to theminimumlevel.

5.5MonitorfunctionThe (Monitor) button is for temporarily disabling the squelchwhich reduces background noise thus enabling you to listen forextremelyweaksignals.Bydoingthis,youavoidlisteningtobrokencommunication.Toactivatethemonitorfunction,holddownthe buttonuntilyouhear background noise (or else a weak signal). Release thebutton when you have finished listening.

If you wish to deactivate the squelch without holding down thebutton,pressthe buttonforatleast5seconds,untilyouheartwoacousticsounds(beeps),thenreleasethebutton.Thesquelchwill remain disabled until you briefly press the buttonagain.

5.6SelectingtransmissionpowerToextend thebatteryduty,youcanselect lowtransmissionpowerwhentransmittingovershortdistances.To do this, briefly press the HI/LO button: LOW will appear onthedisplay(lowpower isapprox.0.1W). Ifyouwishto transmitorreceiveover longdistancesorwithweaksignals,press theHI/LObuttonagain:LOWwilldisappearandhighpowerwillbeset(approx.0.5W).

5.7BluetoothbuttonTo pair a Bluetooth device and activate/deactivate theBluetoothThe445BTcanbeconnectedtoBluetoothdeviceslike:headsets,helmetsandtheMidlandBTIntercom.Pleaserefertotheadditionalmanual“Bluetoothfunctionality”formoreinformationabouttheuseoftheBluetooth.

5.8DisplaylightingBriefly press the button.Thebacklightisactivatedforabout10seconds.Ifyouwishtodeactivateit,pressthe buttonagain.

Display lighting uses additional battery energy. Try to use thisfeatureinmoderation.

5.9KeypadlockToactivatethekeypadlock,holddownthe HI/LObuttonuntilthe

6.2.b Setting VOX sensitivity AdjustingtheVOXsensitivityavoidsthelikelihoodoftheradiogoinginto transmission mode because of environmental noise. As such,it should be adjusted to the minimum level necessary to activatetransmissionbyvoice.1. RepeatedlypresstheFkeyuntilLE(sensitivitylevel)isdisplayed.

TheVOXiconandthesensitivitylevelcurrentlyselected(from0�to06) will flash on the display.

6.3.a Scanning all channels445 BT can automatically search for signals throughout the bandbyscanning,orselecting thechannels in rapidsequence.Whenasignalisdetected,thescanningpausesonthatchannelandremainsblockeduntilthesignalends(foramaximumoftenseconds),givingtheuserachancetorespondtoacall,ifnecessary,before445BTautomaticallybeginsscanningagain.Tobeginscanning,followthestepsoutlinedbelow:1. 5. IfDualWatchpausesonachannelonwhichyouwould like tosenda transmission,press thePTTbutton.ThiswilldeactivateDualWatch,allowingyoutocommunicatenormally.ToreactivateDualWatch,followthestepsoutlinedabove.

6. ToexitDualWatchmodeandreturntonormalreceptiononthecurrentlyselectedchannel,press the button,orpress theFbuttontoaccessthefollowingmenusetting.

6.4MemorychannelsThetransceiverisequippedwith20memories(from0�to20)intowhichcommonly-usedchannelscanbesaved.Oncestored, thesechannelscanrapidlyberecalledandscanned.

7CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE OFYOURRADIO

7.�CleaningtheradioCarefullyrubtheradiousingasoft,cleancloththatdoesnothaveloose fibers. If the radio is very dirty, slightly dampen the cloth with a mixtureofwaterandaneutralsoap.

Donotusedetergents,alcohol,solvents,orabrasives.While cleaning the radio, always keep the rubber flap over the side connectors, the antenna, and the battery well inplace.Donotunderanycircumstancesallowtheconnectorsorelectricalcontactstogetwet.

7.2ConnectorsWhentheconnectorsarenotbeingused,theymustbecoveredwiththeir protective rubber flap.

Only use original accessories or those approved by CTEInternational,otherwiseyoumaydamagetheradio.

8TROUBLESHOOTINGYour 445 BT is designed to provide you with years of optimalperformance.Ifforsomereasonaproblemshouldarisewesuggestyouconsultthischapterbeforecontactingyourlocalservicecentre.

8.�ResetoffunctionsIf your transceiver experiences a logical malfunction (impropersymbols on the display, blocking of functions, etc.), it may not beexperiencingatruefailure,butratheraproblemcausedbyexternalfactors.Forexample,itmayhaveanincorrectsettingbroughtonbyanoiseorspikesintheelectricalsystemduringbatteryrecharging.Insuchcases,youcanresetthetransceivertoitsfactory-programmedsettings,deletingmemoriesandresettingallfunctions.Todothis:1. Turnoffthetransceiver.2. Hold down the F button, and at the same time, turn on the

transceiver;alloftheiconsandsymbolswillappearsimultaneouslyonthetransceiver.

3. Release the F button. All settings will return to the factory-programmed ones. For example, the radio will be reset on thechannel1,hightransmissionpowerwillbeselected,etc.
