AREA content writing best practices 1. Succinct – AREA Tutorials should be succinct. Aim for 250–500 words, 50
words per paragraph, make copy 50% < print. 2. Inverted pyramid – Most people will only scan your article. A good strategy is
to consider your content as an “inverted pyramid” with the most vital information in the first paragraphs.
3. Left-side scannable – Use headings and subheadings to make content scannable on the left–side where people tend to focus their attention. Tip: Place keywords first in the paragraph.
4. Simple and concise – Reading quality is reduced online, write simple and concise sentences to make it more consumable.
5. Call outs – Call out key information with charts, graphs, pictures, captions,
quotes, and lists. 6. Laser focus – Pages with several topics rank lower in search results than a
page focusing on a single topic. Cover one topic per article. Connect topics with a tutorial series.
7. Stand-alone – Pages can be randomly accessed and readers might not understand the bigger picture. Tip: Ask yourself whether this page makes sense out of context.
8. Freshness – Outdated content decreases trust, make it a habit to update regularly.
Video Tutorial best practices 1. Description: When creating an article about a video tutorial on AREA, make
sure to write a short description of what the tutorial is about 2. Voice over: Make sure you include a voice over or captions in your video
tutorial, this helps users understand what is going on. Captions also helps users who are not proficient in English
3. Be careful about language: We will not publish written or video tutorials that use foul language. Please refer to the Autodesk terms of use for more information: https://www.autodesk.com/company/legal-notices- trademarks/website-terms-of-use
