TA Member Profile After having interviewed a select range of people from my target audience, I have also interviewed a singular person to ensure I can build a target audience profile based on one person’s opinions and justifications. To do so I interviewed Nicholas Leadley, a 17 year old college student. Nick fits into the primary target audience and I interviewed Nick and asked him about relative media information such as that of her music likes and dislikes, her preferred TV shows and choice of film genres etc. This will help me to understand the psychographics and demographics of my target audience. Music – Nick likes a vast variety of music genres and finds music soothing and relaxing. Nick says that London Grammar’s track ‘Nightcall’ is one in which allows for the audience to interpret their own ideas and emotions regarding the song however it also has its own clear cut meanings. Nick also adds that London Grammar (LG) in particular has clear and identifiable songs which easily fit into the band’s genres of choice and so allows for there to be a recognisable pattern between songs and genres – the typical conventions of the music genres. TA Member Profile

After having interviewed a select range of people from my target audience, I have also interviewed a singular person to ensure I can build a target audience profile based on one person’s opinions and justifications.

Music –

Nick likes a vast variety of music genres and finds music soothing and relaxing. Nick takes a liking to Nightcall due to its melodic and dreamy atmosphere.

Music Videos –

Nick prefers to listen to music rather than watch the videos to the music however when he does he likes ones in which are either cinematic or have bright and bold colours as it reminds him of summer. This notion of resemblance therefore suggest that the target audience like music videos in which relate to the pace/tempo and mood of the song and so with this the colours for our video will be low key and darker to that of which most other genres have. Alongside relating things such as colours and speeds to the song itself, it ensures that we can relate our video in general (the ideas explored) to get a reaction from the audience and perhaps let the audience see themselves in the situation - the idea of identify from the ‘Uses and Gratification’ theory.

Films –

Nick has a range of film genres in which he enjoys watching however in particular likes those of which are predominantly action based. This therefore connotes that the music in this films are more upbeat to that of the LG songs though with this the group can take inspiration from cinematic perspectives and apply this to our music video. He also adds that he likes a blend between fast paced action and slower paced scenes which interlink with one another and so this is applied in our music video where each scene is either joined via the actress dancing (slow paced) or the location changes being linked by a car scene (slow paced again).

TV –

Nicholas tends not to watch as much TV as he does films however when he does he likes to watch a mixed array of documentaries, comedy programmes and TV series. This ensures he doesn’t get bored of watching the same type of programmes each time and so this signifies that there is a mix of camera work and genres that are present in the TV that he watches. From this the group can take away the notion of being able to use a vast range of camera shots and angles and make the video interesting for the audience.

Other Interests –

Nick is an aspiring photographer in his spare time and also takes a keen interest in cinematography. He is passionate about what he does and so ensures his work is to of high standard which allows him to gain better reactions/attention from his TA. Nick therefore takes a liking to the group’s initial ideas due to the cinematic shots and lighting in which we aspire to use which signifies that our music should be received well by our target audience and allow them to interpret the song as how the video depicts it.

Other Interests –

In conclusion to this TA Member profile, the ideas in which the group have already and continue to expand on are suitable to the TA and are relative to the genre in which we have acquired. The themes explored make sense to the song and the idea of the video being cinematic is also fitting to the song and will ensure that the piece is to a high standard. The idea of identification also signifies that the majority of the TA will be able to potentially recognise themselves within the situations our actor and actress does and so allows them to explore through a thought-provoking song and genre.
